While I agree that the system is deeply undemocratic & flawed ... I'm not sure you can blame it on the Founding Fathers/slave owners. They were just trying to cobble together a nation out of the original thirteen colonies. They had no idea there would be areas of the continent that would one day be divided into new states & that they would have widely disparate population numbers. It was surely the responsibility of later politicians to introduce measures/amendments that would have made the electoral system more accountable?

They really should make a separate house where the number of representatives each state gets is determined by population to balance that out. Not quite sure what such a thing would be called though.
