I mention this once, and I guess I should mention it again ,
Pre-conception is my worst enemy(no pun intended).
Something told me that I should have wrapped up this properly, still Toronado got most of the points right, I guess that I should try to clear this up:
Aside from AppleDash and DashiePie, Twixie is already the most common ship. Even non-shipping stores involving Trixie and Twilight pile on the UST like there is no tomorrow, and I know several people who treat Twixie with OTP status above AppleDash and/or DashiePie (and, Gravekeeper may strike me down, but I personally don't, ironically enough).
And because Het is Ew absolutely dominates this fandom, to the extent that even M/M pairings seem to outweigh straight pairings, I'd have to imagine making her a male would have caused less shipping, not more.
Almost, but what I wanted to point out is that the UST was more obvious and potentially canon, and while there is some true about the UST in the fandoom regardless of the gender, I do believe that is really uncomfortable for the writers to create an episode around the premise of
Boast Busters.
Don't think that double standard would have applied in this case. Boast Busters was ambiguous, perhaps to the extent that it was detrimental of the episode. I've gone over this many times before. That was the entire crux of the damn story that I wrote, for that matter.
But they still could have made male-Trixie appear overly-haughty without making Twilight look like a bitch for showing him up.
No, actually the problem I found is some of the events like the "showing off" vs the "main cast"(AJ, RD and Rarity), which wouldn't have work as well, the same can be said about Twilight and Trixie's UST, which would probably had different dynamics.
I honestly don't know what you are saying here.
I should have mention this before, but imagine the situation between Prince Blueblood and Rarity, and then compare with a similar situation with Twilight and Trixie, the episode and the context of it could have produced the accidental shipping I was mentioning previously.
(Well that was all in my mind)
I assume he meant that Trixie being male would lead to UST between her/him and Twilight throughout the episode. And, when combined with a very specific type of societal double-standard, make Twilight look like a massive bitch for showing Male-Trixie up at the end of the episode. I disagree, because I actually recall there being a couple of Powerpuff Girls episodes that did basically the same plot (haughty male gets his ass kicked, Powerpuff Girls save him) that played out fine, and FiM shares a lot of that same writing talent as PPG did even aside from Faust.
And if this is an incorrect interpretation, feel free to correct me akira.
While this crossed through my mind, I don't think that Twilight has the character to actually do this, at the end she didn't do anything, it was AJ/RD/Rarity the ones that were really against Trixie. They could probably have played that role, but not as good for reasons I mentioned previously.
The problem is, I've never, not once, read a Trixie story that takes place after Boast Busters where Trixie isn't revealed to be Twilight's sister that didn't have UST (CoffeeGrunt's had it. That Grimdark-War fic Buttersc0tch wrote had it. Mine had it.); so the fanbase seems to have decided that there was UST present in Boast Busters anyways.
Agreed.
Apart from that:
Dude. I get it. I really do. But come on.
Who does she even have to compete against? Gilda is an extremely acquired taste, Prince Douche is universally loathed (and heaven help you if you say otherwise), and the rest of the secondary characters (Big Mac being the exception that proves the rule, because he is related to two members of the Mane Cast and is written in-canon to have hidden depths) are far too limited in scope to be used in fan works (and thus be popular).
Not that I hate Trixie, she is a really easy character to write from and the canon leaves enough basis to make stories about her. However I do believe that OC ponies and other secondary characters deserves more attention than Trixie, Gilda is an interesting one for example, and she doesn't get as much love because of the episode premise,
Nick Nack showed me that a good story can potentially depart from her, as well from an OC pony. The same can be said about Saddlesoap's and Ditzy doo(or Derpy) story, which was really well executed for an OC ponies, I could go on by mentioning potential stories involving Roseluck and Philomena that didn't made it to ED because of the Trixie ships, but this require some reading about them, maybe they will make it to ED eventually(not mine of course).
Blame the muscular spasm for the delay of my answer, and is still confusing now that I re-read it.
