As it turns out, somepony made an account with my name on FiMFiction and pretended to be me. That I didn't notice before a full 13 weeks had passed is a little tragic, but also testament to how subtle and ostensibly harmless this impersonator was. He behaved politely, uploaded all my fics (sans W&W/O) and mirrored my deviantArt posts here.

Heck, he did such a good job that when I found the account previously named "Cloudy Skies", I questioned my own memory.

So, I've recently finished reading a novel-length Twilight-Trixie shipfic named Of Mares and Magic - and while I enjoyed absolutely every last second of it to the point of staying up until 5:30AM the night before an examination to finish the final few chapters, (which was probably extremely foolish of me, in hindsight) I felt that it was marred massively by the uselessly melodramatic and unnecessarily sad ending of its eleventh chapter, and its subsequent afterthought apology epilogue. Honestly, there's a point where that kind of narrative just becomes gratuitous, and Of Mares and Magic skates gleefully past that point in its final pages, ruining what could have been a truly beautiful ending.

A real shame, too, as the author flushed whole chapters worth of incredibly intricate character fleshing and development - never before have I felt so connected to characters in a book - down the tube in an instant for the sake of a cheap, shock-factor twist, only to twist backwards in the epilogue and confuse the plot beyond redemption. Of course, I'm not going to lie to you and say that it wasn't extremely fun to read - it was just that the way that the ending felt as though it had been designed to randomly buck me off its rodeo horse and became piss-takingly ridiculous and unfitting at the crucial moment. There's no denying that it was a fantastic fic all in all, and one of the cleverest, deepest and most emotionally wrenching stories that I've ever read - but the blatant Gainax Ending was the piranha in what would have otherwise been a first-class soup. And that made me angry more than anything else.

You might just love it, though. ;P

Yeah, haven't heard anything about that fic since August, when Toro and Coffee were voicing there displeasure at the final parts of the story. I've heard a lot of good things about OMaM, save for the last chapter and epilogue. I don't think I've ever had the urge to take a look at it though, but there's always a chance I'll give it a go.


Also, I've suddenly remembered that the follow-up to Arddun Lleuad hasn't been uploaded on FiMFiction yet more than a month after it was supposed to be uploaded. I read the first 4 beta chapters on GDoc and I just have to finish the rest of that story. I need to know what happens!
