Top Gear standing start?

Asked this question a while ago and didn't get a response. I want to be able to drive the track like they do in the show and compare times! Takes a lot of fun out of it otherwise.

start time trial.

run 1 "test" lap.. just before you cross the line: stop completely. then "start" the lap as you would a standing start. the timer stats as you cross the line. (within that.. 0-1 feet):)

HOWEVER, thats just a suggestion for "just in case they dont let you do standing starts" :O

I REALLY hope there is an option for a standing start. I can't believe they would only have a rolling start on that track. It's almost like they didn't watch the Top Gear show! Ok, I know they did, I'm just saying it's an incredibly strange thing to have the Top Gear track with no standing start. The trouble with doing a practice lap is it's gonna be hard to creep up to the starting line and all that hassle. People could cut a bit of time starting a bit further back and get more speed up to the start. Should just let us do it right out of the gate. Oh well.. think they could patch it? :nervous:

If this is the only method it still kind of sucks because you can't just do a quick lap, really hope they just implemented the standing start. It almost seems to me that the developers don't have a grasp on the actual show (if they didn't implement this) also none of the 'reasonable priced cars' are in.

But who knows what the game modes are in the Top Gear section, might be awesome.

I don't think they want to recreate Top Gear fully, just the track. There's none of the RP car and only some of the Powerlap cars. Come to think of it, GT5 is like a sample dish, you just get a taste of everything.

Yeah, Gran Turismo really is just a sampling of all motor sports and doesn't actually recreate them all perfectly but still.. just a standing start for the TG track isn't asking for that much is it? :D

Pretty sure it is a rolling start because the start/finish line is just after a corner and would have to back up the grid round a 90 degree corner.

I don't care if there is a rolling start during a race, but in practice mode it should definitely be a standing start.

I know that there are standing start for some of the races...but as far as Top Gear Track, not sure. Hopefully we will have an option to set those parameters in track options.

Im pretty sure in Time trials they start you rolling BEFORE the start line - so you dont have to go around for 1 lap to stop and start at the line.

Nope the Timer Doesn't Start till you Cross the Line in Time Trials

So maybe when you get Control of the Car you can Slam the Brakes on , Roll up to the Start Line and as you get to the line floor it 👍

I was hoping to try doing some power laps on Top Gear Test Track aswell so will be a bit disappointing if we can't do standing starts, plus the exclusions of the reasonably priced cars. Be great to see a DLC Top Gear pack with premium reasonably priced cars and maybe a few of the power lap record holders. Fingers crossed.

Can we work around? Only if needed.

Stop at the line, it will count the full lap time anyway. Need to go very slow in the first lap to make certain you can save the standing start as best lap time.

Should also be possible in private lobbies.

Undocumented feature there.

We will need to create our own db for that though.

The Top Gear test track presents a few problems. If they made the time trial standing start it must also be only one lap otherwise all the leader board times would come from subsequent laps. That would make it a different format to time trials which isn't ideal IMO and even though limiting this Top Gear inspired event to unmodified cars is in keeping with the Top Gear format I am sure I am not the only person that would love to see what I can do in a modified car.

On that note I would hope that the time trial has stuck to the standard format and I would also hope that there is a permanent online standing start 1 lap time trial event for standard cars in addition to having the ability to create our own time trial events for unrestricted and point restricted modified cars.

I hope that we can create our own online events and set things like standing start so that this kind of workaround isn't necessary. It doesn't matter to me if the actual starting position is a few feet back from the starting line as everyone would start in the same position and being realistic I doubt very much that the track is a exact representation of the original, I have no doubt it is very close but I'd be surprised if it wasn't a few feet out here or there so starting a few feet back doesn't really make a difference to me.

Sorry i just came in here to tell TS how purely awesome his name is ahaha

OT:

It might be difficult to do a standing start due to the short length of the starting straight? I mean if you were to line 16 cars on the track, it would have to go around the last corner which kinda isn't fair

hmm Gran Turismo really is a game of rolling starts (only standing start i can remember is Midfield, but that might just be my bad memory)

In GT1 & GT2, I believe all races where done from a standing start. Haven't seen any Time Trials yet, but hope you do standing starts there.

What about TG track crossing itself? Isn't there a big possibility of a crash with a backmarker?

Sony is selling this as, the game has moved from 2D looking in front and back of you to 3D, also having to look on the side not to get serious accidents. :scared:

I guess it will add a dimension you need to control :ouch:, not clear if I was waiting for that. :guilty:

Perhaps a poll should be added to this thread. With many votes It may get noticed.
It should be a standing start though IMO.

There is a way to do it, but you must be online.

Go to Open Lounge in your GT Life page, and then create a new room. Select the Top Gear Test Track and go to Event Settings. There you can select "Grid Start" and then go to Start Race...

The drawbacks are that you need to wait about 40 s before the race starts, and you have to make the room open to atleast 2 people, meaning that if someone joins you, you won't be alone and you may not be at the front of the grid. I've only just tried it, and it seems that so long as you create the room, you should be at the front, hence you should be able to start from the same position each time.
