I'm sure the BBC are not exactly thrilled at the prospect of losing one of their hottest properties and biggest money makers, but one would hope that whatever happens between the BBC and Clarkson is not dictated by money.

It is reasonable that Jeremy got sacked , but it isn't exactly in the interest of BBC losing so much money because of the show cancelation (over a 1 billion pounds) , atleast i assume.

It isn't dictated by money. Its dictated by the Daily Mail and all the others that are anti-car people. Read this, written by a logical person who is a Top Gear watcher http://www.thesmokingtire.com/2015/breaking-down-the-guardians-analysis-of-jeremy-clarkson/ , then read this which is written by a person who has a wider audience than all car blogs combined, http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...remy-clarkson-suspended-eco-feminist-top-gear . The BBC can't do much even with all the back up if some chick that has 5,000 viewers manages to make all of Tumblr DDOS the Top Gear website because of something that wasn't even a punch. Its sad how people will only see the BREAKING NEWS JEREMY CLARKSON PUNCHES YOUNG MALE IN COUNTRYSIDE, rather than hey let's look at it from a logical standpoint.

The equally interesting side notes are how little people think TG's popularity is due to everyone else other then the big moron. The slick (if now tired) editting, May, Hammond it seems are all secondary to the Clarkson circus.

I am backing the beeb, he's got his head up his own arse.

If the beeb has any imagination, they'd take the chance to refresh a tired show and get someone new in there, keeping Hammond and May (the former being debatable, but required to 'ease' the transition). Nobody is irreplaceable.

From what this says Clarkson didn't even throw a punch, and this has interviews with the people who were actually there. It sounds like Jezza was just having a bad day, and ranted at some guy on the crew about lunch. Jeremy venting over the top like the knob he is and some people getting bent out of shape over it cause their favorite celeb was having a bad day and didn't feel like pictures. IDK something doesn't feel right, and like others have mentioned if he really hurt someone he would have been fired on the spot. This could even be a publicity stunt with how media works these days.

What do you all think?

Wasn't there some kind of incident surrounding the Falklands War that was blamed on Jeremy not too long ago that caused the natives to throw rocks at expensive cars? The Beeb might have been looking for a reason to sack Clarkson then, and now they found the perfect 1 billion pound excuse to sack him?

This. They said he was on his "final warning" after the "eeny, meeny, miny, mo" incident, so any other problem, no matter how minor, could be grounds for his dismissal. As I understand it, the relations between Clarkson and the BBC have not been good and are worsening, and on that basis this could be the perfect scenario - but only if they're willing to foot the bill and put up with the massive amount of lost revenue in the future.

Physical violence in the workplace is unacceptable, and as much I as would like to see Clarkson and Top Gear remain, it's not fair to condone physical violence, no matter the standing and importance of that person. It just means that if he is punished via suspension/dismissal, the audience suffers.

However, that being said, if it can be proved it was merely a rant with no physical involvement, I would be disappointed if that was enough for him to be dismissed. Surprised? Probably not, as you say, the BBC probably want rid of him...

Does anyone know of the status of the contracts between May/Hammond and BBC With regards to the duration left. I'd love to see Clarkson go to Sky and take them with and start a new show, well James May at least, without the limitations of the BBC. Sky or another premium channel would more than likely encourage the controversial comments.

What if Ferrari just doesn't want them to test the cars? *cue spooky music*

End of season.

The last several seasons were only 7 episodes, if I recall correctly.
I think this is just an elaborate scheme to reduce this season to 7 episodes.....

Just saying, Ferrari doesn't want them to test the 3 cars. Plausible theory.

Meh.

On the other hand, it's perfectly logical to demand the man be reinstated before the result of any investigation as to whether Clarkson has actually hit anyone?

I mean, it's perfectly logical to assume he wouldn't punch anyone who isn't Piers Morgan, right? [/sarcasm]

And why bother writing a rebuttal to all that? I mean, I'm a greenie and I snoozed off three paragraphs into the woman's article. There's not much to rebut.

-

Also, Ferrari... haha. No. Supercar manufacturers love Top Gear. It keeps them in the spotlight.

It keeps Ferrari happy if they are allowed to tune the car to the appropriate track with 2 weeks worth of preparation time and a couple of crashes http://jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins .

Yeah. And when has Ferrari ever not been able to do that with Top Gear TV?

And when was the last time you heard a truly negative review about a Ferrari on the show?

I'm not talking about where Clarkson carps and complains about ergonomics this and that before ending his piece in giggles powerslides and orgasmic "OOOOWWwwwOOOOwwws", but an honest-to-goodness deconstruction of the ridiculousness of marketing, buying and owning supercars with five-digit service fees and interiors so colorful they'd make Nike blush?

Nope. Top Gear sells Ferraris. With every single dramatic powerslide, shrieking banshee flyby and supercar stunt or challenge... whether they "win" or "lose", they win simply by being in the public eye on that show.

There's not a single reason in the world to deny yourself that kind of exposure.

I wonder if there will be a Top Gear magazine this month - it'd be very interesting to see how the issue is handled if it is indeed printed.

Except that if the 918 and/or P1 are faster, well you know.

#Clarksongate will probably be one of the main topics (if not THE main topic) but I'd be surprised if it wasn't printed, to be honest.

I'm not so sure. People that obsessed with Top Gear and that enamoured with the personality himself would leap to his defense regardless, like football fans jeering at a referee who has made a perfectly good call that happens to be against the team they support.

I made the mistake of looking at a Car Throttle post on the matter the other day. If you want to see what diehard Clarkson fans are like, look at all the commenters saying that people should be able to punch whoever they like because that's how "real men" deal with problems.

It's worrying how many people out there would support Clarkson whatever moronic thing he did.
Innocent until proven guilty, of course. But even if Clarkson actually did punch the guy, there's a surprising sub-set of people who think that that's okay...
What if, rather than thinking it's okay that he might have punched some guy, I just don't care if he punched some guy? I'm not signing any petition to have Clarkson brought back against whatever the BBC's internal investigation finds out happened nor am I defending him punching some guy without justification, but I'm also not watching a Clarkson-less Top Gear and would undoubtedly follow him if he went and started some other thing.

The totally 100% verified and authenticated transcript of the incident ;).....

The Telegraph

The dining room, Simonstone Hall, North Yorkshire, 10pm. Enter Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond and the Top Gear production team.

James May: Jesus Christ, I’m ******* starving!

Jeremy Clarkson: Language, James! (He rattles a collection tin for Tsunami Relief in Asia. May puts in a pound, grumbling.)

Richard Hammond: (Sits at a table and clicks his fingers at a waiter stacking plates.) Oi, Luigi, three sirloin steaks with fondant potatoes, pan-fried wild mushrooms, grilled cherry tomatoes and pink peppercorn sauce. (To the barman) Oh, and while you’re at it, Pierre, retreat to the cellar and get us three jeroboams of Beaucastel 2012 Chateau Neuf du Pape. Chop chop pal. Where’d you go to catering college, Mexico?

Clarkson: Steady on, Hamster, that’s just the sort of talk that proves we need legislation against discrimination in the workplace. Besides, I’ve warned you before about your cholesterol. (Looks at menu.) I’ll just have the raw cauliflower salad with cumin and quinoa please and a glass of lukewarm tap water. Is the bread gluten free? Sorry to ask, but I’m intolerant. Ha ha, of wheat I mean. And do serve the crew first. (Points at 16 producers, cameramen, sound recordists, makeup girls and the Stig, all crowded round a table for three.) They’ve had a tough day, poor loves. I still don’t see why we can’t all sit together.

May: No ******* way… I mean, er, it’s a BBC thing. Something about demarcation between front-of-camera and back office… Er, just popping outside for a smoke.

Clarkson: Tsk, roll on plain packaging for tobacco, I say. Such a shame to see a man enslaved to toxins. It’s like sucking on an exhaust pipe, you know? At least, until electric cars finally end the tyranny of the combustion engine.

The restaurant door slams open, accompanied by a clap of thunder and a dark, saturnine figure bounds into the room: it is Danny Cohen, the BBC’s Head of Television.

Cohen: That’s enough of that sort of dangerous talk, Clarkson! What if someone heard you? Don’t you realise Top Gear is worth £50m to the BBC in overseas sales? And a helluva lot more as a right-wing figleaf to cover the kind of bien-pensant, pantywaist-liberal programming me and my friends like to talk about in Shoreditch House, and which I am consequently flooding the airwaves with.

Clarkson: I know, I know, Mr Cohen but I’m tired of the charade. The perverse, tyre-sniffing fetishisation of completely impractical modes of transport. The playground machismo and 1970s saloon bar sexism. I can’t carry on as this pantomime character the BBC has trapped me into playing since 1988, just by promising to fund my wind-up mobility scooter charity in Vietnam.

Cohen (sneering): Yes, who’d have thought – Clarkson, the wind-up merchant! Well, if you want those little kids to be able to carry on trundling to the rice paddies, or whatever they have in Hanoi, you’d better step back in line. Don’t think I haven’t noticed your escape attempts! Those eeny-meeny-miney attempts to infringe BBC guidelines and get yourself sacked! Don’t you realise that at the Beeb you can pretty much get away with murder? Just look at Snog, Marry, Avoid, which I put on BBC3! As long as I back you, there’s no escape. Know what the funniest two words are in public service broadcasting? 'Final warning.’

Clarkson (almost in tears): Please, Danny, please. Please don’t make me drive a Pagani Zonda through the slums of Caracas lighting a cigar with a sheaf of burning banknotes. You wouldn’t believe the noise! Please don’t make me banter with Gary Lineker about the cornering ability of the Renault Megane Turbo. It’s soul-destroying. I crave a simple life. A yoga mat to sleep on. A few hours’ quiet meditation a day. I want to sell those ridiculous, huge houses, and my Chelsea season ticket, and move to a yurt on the south coast. I’ve even been taking some clowning workshops…

Waiter: Sorry sirs, I’m afraid the chef has gone home and all we can offer you are a cold collation, some soup, or these three large custard pies, which I’ve brought out to show you.

May and Hammond: Eurgh, ****ing foreign muck.

Clarkson: Perfect! Let me show you one of the clowning routines I’ve been practising with Oisin the producer. Much more entertaining than stupid cars...

Clarkson goes to push the pie into the willing Oisin Tymon’s face, but at the last minute The Stig snatches it out of his hand and trips Clarkson up so he gives Tymon a gentle push, which The Stig captures on his phone.

Clarkson: Oh no! Contact! I am SO sorry to have invaded your personal space.

But Tymon is removing a mask to reveal the smiling face of David Cameron underneath, and The Stig takes off his helmet to reveal he is… George Osborne.

Cameron: Don’t worry Jeremy, it’s all part of the plan. You might be able to get away with sexism and racist abuse on the BBC, but an assault is another matter. And if that doesn’t get you sacked, I plan to go on TV and claim you “as a friend and a huge talent”, which should do the trick.

Cohen: Bah, foiled!

Clarkson: You mean I’m free?

Cameron: Not quite. With the election coming in May, we in the Conservative Party need popular figures who appear to have the common touch, but who went to proper schools. People like you, Jeremy. And James Blunt – as we speak, Theresa May is engaged in a honeytrap operation to get him. It would be most unwise to say no, Jeremy – we could make things very difficult for you. So say yes, Jeremy: we’ve picked out a nice safe seat near Chipping Norton and I can promise you a ministerial post. Think of it. Lots of foreign travel, Michelin-starred dinners, limousines all the way….

Clarkson (falling to his knees and raising his fists to the sky): Noooooo!

That's fair enough. I don't particularly care that he attempted to punch/punched someone either, but if he did then the BBC is entirely justified in giving him the boot.

And I don't care about Clarkson enough to not watch TG if it came back without him. I enjoy plenty of motoring programs that don't have Clarkson in so provided any replacement was half-interesting I'd be happy enough.

I'd love to see Clarkson go to Sky and take them with and start a new show, well James May at least, without the limitations of the BBC. I read (on the BBC site I think) that all three contracts are up for re-negotiation next month.

In tomorrows Mail On Sunday they have someone from the BBC comparing Clarkson to Jimmy Saville, I'm not kidding!

As much as I hate the Mail, it being a journal intentionally written to make people angry about non-controversies, one can fairly make that comparison with regards to BBC investigations of internal wrongdoings.

Of course, I doubt that they'll be carrying a "look how much the BBC has improved since the 1970s" spin to it...

So he had a scuffle with someone and now they are comparing him to someone who the police called 'a sexual predator'.....I'm speechless!...

As I say, if they're publishing a front page headline proclaiming "CLARKSON: SAVILLE MK 2" then you have grounds for Clarkson (and possibly the BBC) to sue the Mail.

If they're comparing how BBC internal practices regarding the behaviour of its staff have changed between the 1970s and today, that's fair.

I haven't seen what they're publishing, so I can't really comment.

I like the show, but can't help thinking that it and Clarkson both have nowhere to go but further downhill. Enough Clarkson for me, whether he punched the guy or caused him to start bleeding by telekinesis. This is what happens when a person repeatedly gets away with dirty deeds because they make money for someone, in this case the BBC--Inebriated Clarkson thought he was untouchable due to fame and fortune. Maybe Kanye West would take him on as a hippity hop partner capable of the same level of egotistical contempt for others.

To reiterate, enough Clarkson for me. No more, please.
