None of which in itself is homophobic. The inference that May is Gay is not homophobic, merely incorrect. Is it then wrong to laugh? I did.

Why not? It's their car so i don't see the problem , some people just want to get offended by the smallest things. (Not talking about you)

I'm not sure why some of you hate Top Gear, for me it's pretty much one of the few TV shows i watch on TV Today along with few other TV shows. It's sad to see the show leaving.

I wonder what Jeremy is going to do after that he got sacked? do a brand new show or what?

Also doesn't that means that TG part of Forza will be gone?

I agree. It isn't, but it also isn't necessary.

I think it has a lot to do with how the individual interprets it..

The two flags of Clarkson and Hammond represent their nationality, May's flag is making fun of May by representing his sexual orientation. I doubt May is homosexual, but it shouldn't matter if he was.. And that's the point. If Hammond's and Clarkson's flags represented a heterosexual, (or any other sexual orientation) symbol (if there is such a thing), then it would all be in context.

I imagine some people out there who are sensitive to these things, could possibly be offended by it (the fact that it's subtly being made fun of).

Personally, i don't find it offensive, but i can understand why some people would. I certainly don't think it's funny, but i can understand those who have a childish sense of humour, probably would find it funny.
 
It is quite obviously done to let straight people chuckle and say "lol a fag flag".

In other words, letting a majority have fun at the expense of a minority. It's not going to make a homosexual kill themselves, but it sure is unnecessary.

The joke would be funny if it had a gay pride flag for two of the presenters. As it is there isn't even really a joke, just a likely inaccuracy, considering last time I checked May has a girlfriend, signifying that he is probably either straight or bisexual.
 
Making fun of May by implying he's homosexual. Not hard to understand why some are offended.

On the other hand, the show's "offensiveness" is evenly distributed and everyone gets a chance to participate, especially caravanners and Americans (and older drivers, and environmentalists, and Peugeot owners and . . . ). And they've had gay guests on and treated them as friends. You might say they're playing at being offensive, with malice towards none.
 
Its not homophobic. If there was a big red X over it, then it would be homophobic. But there isn't. It's practically supporting homosexuality.
 
The joke comes from questioning his sexuality. It doesn't come from what that actually is.

I know and I didn't mean to imply that. I wouldn't call someone homophobic even if they got a chuckle out of this. Perhaps immature and/or insensitive, but not necessarily homophobic.
 
It seems the BBC have said in a statement today, they are looking at ways of renewing Top Gear for next year and it seems according to some places that Guy Martin (of Motobike racing and Channel 4 fame) has been installed as the bookies favourite to replace Clarkson.

As much as I like Guy I don't see him doing it. Personally I think that Top Gear without Clarkson (and indeed without Hammond and May along side him) is not worth watching.

I and others I know seem to think he and the other 2 will turn up again with another show somewhere and given Clarkson's outburst the other day about how he felt the BBC ruined Top Gear, should it happen will want control of how he wants the show to work.
 
The dilemma is like Chris Harris said in his article on Jalopnik is no other car show tries to be funny and imitate Top Gear, other car shows tend to be more "car oriented", getting new presenters for Top gear means that it's probably a lose-lose situation, they have to be humorous and be more Top Gear-y which whoever they get will probably fail at it and if they switch to being more car oriented they'll lose the average joe.

It's sort of like they'll be the new Top Gear America, heck Top Gear USA is probably now the flagship Top Gear.

Fact of the matter is if the BBC tries to replace the current presenters and continue with the 'present' format, the majority of the British public will see it as a cheap imitation, and stop watching it. Not that the Beeb seems to realise this. Seriously I haven't seen this much denial since Nigel Mansell squeezed himself into a McLaren...
 
I think they have to change the format, and then maybe gradually convert that format to the old format, as long as the new presenters seem to work for it. That way, we'll get used to them first, then maybe grow to like them in the end. Just in time for one of them to punch someone in the face so that they all get replaced again.
