Update 1.02 ruined cockpit view

Then why are some (like me) not experiencing any problems?
This could be similar to the Toscana time change glitch in GT5 where decreasing exposure (in-game adjustment) would give counter intuitive results.

Give it a try before you so loudly condemn it.
Set quality to normal and exposure to 0 and make adjustments both ways.
I'm trying to help you here...

Those are the settings I use all the time - and I'd bet that's true for most of us "whiners."

I have no idea why you aren't experiencing the problem. How many different cars have you driven. Do you use cockpit cam only? Under what time of day settings? I don't know. All I know is I've noticed the issue as have quite a few others.

Since the 1.02 update my cockpit view is terrible its so dark I can't even see the clocks , everything just looks black , anyone else getting this ?
Have you posted anything positive about GT6 since launch? every single post i see from you is basically hating on GT6, maybe the game is not for you if you hate it so much?
"The cockpit is slightly darker on some cars, That's terrible! PD is ruining GT6!"
That's what i understand from the point of this thread and your posts.

Not everyone seems to know that you can adjust the exposure in the quick menu when you pause, under the EV section, brightness can be adjusted!! 💡

I'm already at +5 since day one, I drive only on cockpit view and it was too dark at 0 :yuck:

I use cockpit view only.

There is quite a big difference from track to track but nothing problematic.

I also think "smart" enhancement technology such as black corrector, contrast enhancer, auto light limiter etc etc are "fighting" the signals, so I turn them off and adjust the base settings accordingly.

PS: gamma +1 or +2 is your friend :)

Adjusting the exposure enough to remedy the situation in the cockpit would make things look crummy in every other area of the game.

Any proof of this? There is a separate setting in the main menu options for exposure (brightness?). I assume that's what you mean by "other areas of the game."

OMG. I like the way everything in GT6 looks with the EV at 0 EXCEPT the cockpit under certain lighting condtions. I don't want to crank the EV up to resolve this.

Yeah theres proof - my eyes. By other areas of the game I mean replays, photo mode, you know - parts of the game that DON'T suffer from this lighting issue.

Ok, i just did an update and tried the same car on the same track (Free Run -> Honda Fit at Motegi) and as far as I can tell, there are no differences between 1.01 and 1.02. In other words, latest 1.02 patch did not fix the onboard shadow problem.

Please note that this problem is only with select cars and on certain tracks. It's not always and everywhere.

gamma +2 doesn't fix the issue. Still too dark under some circumstances in some cars.

Exactly.

I have GT5 and put in hundreds of hours, most of it in cockpit. Never had a problem.

Is it so hard to believe there might actually be an issue with the cockpit lighting???
OH I just though of something that may be causing your problem 💡

In the PS3 XMB menu - settings - display settings, there are two settings that may be causing problems;

- RGB full range (HDMI)
- Deep colour output (HDMI)

Try changing them, one at a time, and see if that has any effect.

These are not suitable solutions for a problem with ONE game. I don't want to change universal settings on myPS3 that work well for EVERYTHING ELSE and which are set to the best recommended options already in order to resolve an intermittent issue with ONE GAME.

No problem, glad to h... Oh wait.

The effect, concerning the topic at hand, are the same.

Perhaps. But, being different would allow users to work around this darkness issue without affecting the rest of the game's brightness, despite Zevious Z's eye's opinion stating otherwise.

Vegard, I'll help you to understand the problem with real testing enviroment:

Choose Honda Fit RS and go to Free Run -> twin Ring Motegi East. Drive full lap and after second bridge (not first one), you'll see almost nothing on the dash.

You'll understand what we are talking about.

with the further increased hdr many lcd tvs with dynamic contrast struggle as the in game contrast is "too much" vor them to calculate correctly:

in gt5 the "black" of many car dashboards was more a dark grey or even light grey, so the tv stays quite bright.

in gt6 many black dashboards are really black now causing the dynamic contrast algorithm to turn down brightness.

try for your self if you can and turn dynamic contrast off.

normal lcd has around 1:800-1:1100 real contrast(tv even lower) so all above are mostly dynamic contrast values.

edit: i can read the dash clearly on twin ring under the bridge in my fit/jazz. on pc lcd or tv no difference.
