I understand your frustration but less isn't more in this case, it's FREE. Polyphony Digital has been paving the way for console based racing games since Playstation X. Kaz Yamauchi is really all about the players and the experience he drives himself to give others is much more involved than "smaller developers" because he truly cares about the racing series he has had a hand in since the beginning. Scanning real world tracks is a great use of resources and current technology. Personally I think GT Sport needs as much tech as it can get being a console game. It's still barely a year old and it's a console game, not a crazy, super-computed racing simulator like iRacing or Assetto Corsa Competizione which really is an incomplete "game". That is a game that should be scrutinized since you pay $60 or more for one track and two cars...sounds like an iRacing profit scheme but I'm digressing. PS4 consoles are physically limited on graphic ram and processor power after a certain point and PD has already claimed how much of that power GT Sport is taking up. Between the amazing graphics quality and laser scanned cars, only a certain level of physics can be maintained on consoles at a constant and consistent level without major freezes and crashes. When you're 0.135 of a second behind the leader, the last thing you want is sever server lag. I have seen mention on forums by players that PD should do a computer release to really see what the GT Sport series can do but I disagree. Why step into computer simulators when there are already so many and the console player is still looking for that quality of physics? The first to get there on a console will be king of racing sims for a while. If that doesn't excite you, a few upcoming goodies...ray tracing, new tire model, constant improvement of the SR system and every car/track they choose to design and put in game. Nothing has to be paid for until the next Gran Turismo game is released.
I'm excited for the next FREE update. I doubt ray tracing will be in this update but the cars look good and the upcoming tracks are still a mystery with so much room for additions it's not funny. Personally I think that we are getting the Alpine A110 and hopefully the Jaguar XJ13 and not another Porsche...not a fan of Porsche. Wasn't sure about the muscle car silhouette but I agree, I think it's the Shelby GT 350 which would be cool. Please no more Porsche's though, they are way over-powered in current BoP settings. Also really hoping for that Integra!
