Cooked a 10.5kg pork shoulder yesterday. Took 9.5 hours to do but boy was it worth it - steaming soft meat which fell off the bones and super crunchy crackling. :drool: There was about 5kg left over which we've stripped, bagged up and frozen for later in the month.

Today I just had a light course of supper in the morning - without taking time to eat lunch we feasted ourselves on grubbing a broiled pacific saury baked with a skillet. :)

Got in late yesterday and couldn't be bothered to cook so we all had an Indian take out. Not sure how to take the cheer from the kids... :odd:

Had a BBQ last night with the usual suspects: lamb kebabs, burgers, cumberland rings, prawn skewers, etc.

Freshly made leek soup.

Wortelstoemp, herbs, mayo and some bacon. Read this for explanation.

Another homemade burger, this time with a bacon steak, Hellman's chili-mayonnaise and cheddar. Drinking a mug of coffee and a glass of water.

Homemade ragu made from some of the left-overs from that giant pork shoulder I cooked at the weekend.

For as long as I can remember, Spicy Nacho has stood alone atop the Doritos mountain, as the best flavour. My world is slowly crumbling around me though, as I've brought back a few bags of the Jacked Ranch Dipped Hot Wing ones. They're thicker, they're more seasoned, and they've been the fuel for my GTA sessions since getting back. I've just opened the last bag.

I completely understand why the US, in general, has a weight problem; your junk food is delicious. To say nothing of the other things we brought back...

Dinner tonight was Beef Burger Patty with Cheddar, Whipped Potatoes and Chili. Hangar 24 Orange Wheat beer to quench my thirst.

A Firehouse Subs was recently built in my area so I decided to try it out to see how it compares to Subway or Quiznos. As most know Subway has $5.00 FOOT long subs and you can pack as much on there as you want. Truly one of the best food deals you can find anywhere. Quiznos is a joke and all of those went out of business in my area and most likely will go out of business worldwide. So here is my opinion of Firehouse subs....

I purchased the medium "Engineer" sub. Out the door including a pickle it was a little over $6.40. Right away it was much smaller than I expected. Very skinny with not much content at all. The taste was good but it reminded me EXACTLY of Quiznos in a bad way. No way would I pay that much for a sub that small again. I will be shocked if this new Firehouse subs place lasts 5 years in my area. I truly expect it to shut down like Quiznos. Firehouse Subs is just way too similar and in NO way comparable to the content at Subway. For $5.00 at Subway I could make 3 or 4 Firehouse subs but exactly how I want at Subway. No thanks Firehouse Subs. 👎

Is that what you call a "pun"?

Rice punning? No. Why do you husk?

Full cream milk, rice, vanilla, saffron.

Sounds like the mix for vanilla-flavoured rice pudding. Coconut-flovoured rice pudding is good, too.
Hardly ever make it now, since the grocers have every darn pudding you can think of. Home-made is always better, though.

Had his beer - very sneaky beer, thought it was Irish, suddenly hit me as I tasted the toffee, fruits, and unmistakeable overtones of single malt that it was 6.8%. And Scottish.

Sneaky bastards. Makes me wonder now what's really under those kilts.

Because you said: "What did you pud in it?"

"pud" not "put"

Lunch

* Chervil soup with rice in it
* Different vegetables. Some of them mixed with shredded emmentaler cheese, mayo and raisins.
* vol-au-vent
* Belgian :D Fries.

Health food? Nope, delicious food! :p

I forgot to mention that I also included Walnuts, Brazilian nuts and Pecan nuts.
