I'll disagree with the SL65AMG evaluation, too. Go to level 3 weight reduction (pretty much needed for all of the luxo-barges Mercedes makes) then throw on the full race suspension, racing exhaust, chip, twin plate clutch and racing flywheel. Once that is done, you've got a car with about 650HP, and very well-balanced and predicable handling. If you can't handle the power (its the torque), leave TCS on at about level 5, but keep ASM off.

Before I drove the SL65AMG, I thought that I wouldn't like it, but I was wrong. I like it much more than the SLR McLaren.

BTW, the upgrades I listed for the SL65 (except for stage 2 and 3 weight reduction) are pretty much my de-facto mods for any car I drive, just to get the most out of what it has to offer. The only expensive mod in there is the full race suspension, but I feel it is needed to get the adjustability that can allow you to get the car to handle the way that you really want.

Just to give you an idea, my drivetrain preference is either FR or MR. I hate (most) FF, and can tolerate AWD.

As for the Saleen S7, the standard mods along with a supercharger give you a car that is incredibly fast and stable at those high speeds. I used my S7 pretty extensively in the game, and it served me well. It is one of the fastest cars in my garage that is not a race car. Again, use some TCS if you can't handle the incredible amount of torque generated by a supercharged S7.

I am a fan of the SL65, SLR, and the S7. Thanks for the comment about the Carbon R, I had bought one and not even driven it yet, it just looks so bad ass and I assumed it would handle killer.

Honestly to me, a fully modded SLR with supersoft tires feels (and sounds) almost like driving an LM car - doesn't handle AS well obviously, but the experience is similar. There are some people that say a fully modded SL65 handles better than the SLR. I think they just don't know how to drive the SLR. :)

and, the Cien shifts slow because, well, it's a Caddy. :) It should shift slow, to ensure a smooth ride. j/k :)

I don't know why everyone is slagging the Ford GT off. In my opinion it is a class car. I have tuned it up a bit and done a bit of fine tuning on the suspension and other things. Now drives like a charm.

In my opinion every car handles differently and you need to take time to get used to the handling etc. You can't expect to just jump in the car and fly off winning every race straight away. It takes time.

amuse carbon?? wheel spin??wtf? i have full mods on that one and i dont have any driving aids on and still it dosnt spin??i play whit dfp and no proplems with that...

try to tune your car suspentions...

Eagle Talon:
-Front wheel drive that makes you want to put a dynamite stick in the engine compartment,
-Absolutely no torque.
-upgrade it with a stage 2 turbo and still can't climb a hill decently.
-Awful looking car.
-Only new car. Can't buy it used.
-Transmision that can't shift decently... You'll get stuck in 3rd gear wondering where is the torque???.

I buyed this car at first because I thought it would be a good contender in those rally races. Although I didn't see it was not the AWD version of the talon. Some people over here in Canada used this car a lot in rally and it was a great car but the front wheel drive version is a big disaster.

The Ford GT isn't that bad,
Some guy called Protege X found proper tuning settings for the Ford GT. They make the car handle fine. He's banned now (anyone know why?), but if you look for his settings you'll find them.

FIAT PANDA - Don't be fooled by this car's hilarious name and size, as funny as it is. You'll find it in Used Car Lot I. I put 100+ grand into it, and it's the worst I own. The name and demeanor are still hilarious, though.

ANY JAPANESE CAR THAT CAME OUT BEFORE THE YEAR 1999 - God, there are 40 Skylines. I don't even have to explain this one. Unless there's a particular model with a body style that you hold near and dear (like the first car you ever bought or something, sentimental and such), DO NOT buy it.

ANY CIVIC OTHER THAN THE SPOON MODEL - Ok, the majority of the Civics (i.e. all except the spoon one) suck, and even the Spoon model isn't that great. I went to California, I wasn't even there for half a week and I musta seen 30 of those crappy cars in the Sedan form, all the same ugly green with ONE thing that set them apart from the rest (ugly fake spoiler, cheap new rims, body molding that only accounted for one part of the car and nothing else, ETC.). Then you'd go to the next town and find the EXACT 🤬 SAME CAR AGAIN. Don't be fooled by The Fast and the Furious or Need For Speed Underground, DO NOT get stuck with this P.O.S.

i bought the jag race car, i forget the technical name of it..anyway, it was from '88, and a limited slip mod couldn't be put on it, and i noticed the wheels spun quite a bit..

off the subject: when i get in a new car, it autosaves, but i've always liked to test drive my cars, is there anyway i can without it saving?

The TVR Speed 12 is a great car if you know how to drive properly. Firstly, the wheelspin can be almost completely eliminated by cranking up TCS to 10 (it is impossible to drive even remotely quickly with little or no TCS on the Speed 12). Secondly, the handling is not too bad once you get used to it's understeer. I find the car to be quite predictable in the handling department; something very, very important for a car's handling. Just don't be an idiot and mash the throttle halfway through a bend, brake early, and you'll be fine. Or, fix the handling by using racing tires wherever possible. And besides, the Speed 12 is more of a straight-line car than a handling car anyways. It's the godlike power of 800hp that makes this car so special (and fast too). Not to mention it's curb weight of under 1100kg.

I love the Speed 12, it's a great car once you learn to drive it properly.
Spoken like a true driver, my Speed 12 is still stock exept for a wing on the back, I figured it could do with the downforce. Once you know how to drive it, it's an absolute beast, in terms of speed it should be in a similar class to cars like the Cien and VW W12 Nardo but the TVR slaughters them. I did a couple of races in the supercar festival when I first got it to test it out I won a bit too easilly even against cars with 700+ Bhp. I have it with TCS at 4 and use throttle control to prevent anr wheelspin from there, also I've beaten times I've set in other similarly powered cars with it. It's a car that teaches you how to handle power, once you've learnt you can't go wrong with the Speed 12.

I know this thread is for the cars not to buy but as we're talking handling; theres nothing better for city-courses than an '04 Lotus Elise. I have it fully modded, put racing tires on and the thing absoloutly flies in and out of corners.

I have to completely disagree entirely on the SLR. It was the first hypercar I bought and I was by no means disappointed. Just fit it with all the weigh reduction mods and you have yourself a car which knows how to turn better than its weight would suggest.

Also, saying its brakes are poor is just crazy, they're absolutely amazing. Pretty much the best brakes on any Non-Racecar.

Awww hell i just bought the Ford GT. And the brakes are crap.

The game is also weird about the fact that you have to be in a low gear for most turns (seeing as how it hits 100mph in third...), other cars easily pass you even though you're probably going the same speed.

I agree 100%

I love the SLR, one of my favorite cars to drive in the game. Even without any modding.

You can make any car handle like a goddess with the right setup. The RUFs are beautiful around a course if you have the skill to drive them and the mercedes mclarens breakes are one of the best in the game.

I hate the callaway as it just doesnt break.

NOTE: Turn off the driver aids and your car will break better. The ASM was making my callaway not wanting to break but then when I turned it off it breaked alot better.

I love the audi lemans my favourite car. Ive gotten it up to 277MPH with nos and 259 without it. I love the car.

I wrote this on the other thread before it got deleted but sounds like something that should be said again

The MR production cars all have lousy brakes but have great handling...I bought a GT and played with it some but was disgusted with the braking...sure if you brake real early it turns in nice and comes off the corner like a monster but try and outbrake the next guy and its hello wall......I even tried Protege X's setup and actually for me it was worse than what i already had....I played some other MR cars and with slight differences it was all the same

The FR cars have great brakes and usally will stop in half the distance of a MR... the handling is usally so so but with a little tuning can be made adequete...while there is no setup that will improve braking in an MR. The FF & FWD are some where in between. I believe PD did this to help balance the game so no one chassis type is dominate. is it realistic? no, but nessecary to make the game better

its all in your driving style as to which is better....if your like me and like to out brake the next guy an FR car is the only way to go. But if you want superior handling and high speed stability get an MR. If you want a toy that wishes it was a race car get a FF...lol... just kidding

When your looking for a car you should only be looking at; Chassis type, Engine Power and Weight...Looking at just these 3 things will help you judge which car is better. There are many combinations in there to choose from. What the car looks like or who made it doesn't make any difference in the game. Once you found the chassis type you prefer look at the power to weight ratio and decide if its a good car or not

Which car shoudn't you buy?.......There is not one I can think of. They all have their good and bad points. If you don't like a paticular car ...get another one its not like its real money ,is it?

Instead of what cars are junk , how about which ones you really like. That may be more helpful...me, I like the SSR Chevy. In the early game there is not another car ...err.. truck that can do as many races, even does the roadster races! Fully tuned its over 600 ponies and you can get it with your initial $110,000. if you didn't import your GT3 data you'll have to wait a while but its worth the wait.

The TVR Speed 12 handles like a dream after you put a wing on itand play with the downforce. Killed the extreme hall and professional hall sports car races with it. On another note the audi lemans quattro is most definitely one of my favorite cars in the game.

personally i think the ford gt is a very quick car, despite its weak brakes, the handling i thought is actually pretty good, i can lap fuji speedway (hte version that was in prologue) faster with the GT than the Woodone JGTC Supra, less power eyah, but its a full spec race car & for me i can woop myself to the tune of about 2-4 seconds.

I was fiddling around in the Lotus Elise 111R in Arcade Mode, and it struck me that this car handled like a dream and it had tons of power out of that puny 145hp engine. 👍

I've found an easy solution to the S7 brake problems. Set the weight distribution or whatever its called to 20 pounds at I believe -25 (towards the front). The basic problem is that the car isn't getting enough weight on the front to slow it down. I added 20 pounds to the front and now it handles like a champ.

any idea what the P/W ratio is?...its blank on the car list

I have to agree on that, the SLR probably has the best brakes in the game.

Doesn't anyone here watch Top Gear?

I do 👍. I really like the SLR, too. I love the detail in GT4 because when you're going hard into a corner the brakes actually glow :D -- I didn't realize that until I watched one of my replays.

That Mercedes SLR McLaren is also really stable in the 330+ km/h range--much more stable than some of the race cars--hardly any steering wheel shake at all.

And I don't know why people are worried about spending credits and adding mods...it's a game! It's not like you're spending real money--the credits in GT4 are limitless :).

Honda S2000 Race car:banghead:, because when I FINALLY had 845,000 PAL credits, I spended 450,000 on the S2000 race car, cause it was so DAMN fast in GT3, A BIG DISSAPOINTEMENT, a REAL speed issue, I did a race where some normal skylines were in, I WAS LIKE 5 SECS. IN FRONT OF THEM IN >>3<< LAPS!!!!! I am VERY able to drive cars around fast, so that's not the problem.

Do you mean "behind them"?

Anyway, I found the Honda S2000 Race Car to be a big disappointment, too. It was my first race car in GT4. That car is just not impressive--I expected better acceleration and more speed. I never drive it anymore.

I personally think the CarbonR is great, dunno why anyone wouldn't like it.

I dont know why the Amuse Carbon R is on that list. It does have some wheelspin but it still seems to stick to the track pretty well. Its by far my favorite car in the right now.

You're joking right?

I find the SLR brakes incredibly good.
And the Amuse CarbonR actually is good at handling, and braking.

the chapparal 2j is a good car but under heavy braking with lvl 4 turbo it shifts in the direction of the last wheel movement but its a very sensitive car if you have money buy it
