Wait what?

Yeah, I went to the Mac Doctors up the road from my place the other day, and I told them that my fan had been whirlin' up a lot more lately. He said that it's probably that there is some gunk and 🤬 built up in it. But I got the Apple Care Protection Plan when I bought it, so it's under warranty for another 23 months. That means I've got to pay some ridiculous amount for a techie to clean it out. :nervous:

Well.... My PS3 is not exactly a computer but you can play video and music files just like a computer. Today I just disassembled my 60GB PS3(with a 320GB HDD). I removed the old crusty thermal paste and put in the GELID GC-Extreme thermal paste , then put it back together. It runs exactly or even better than new. I can't even hear the fan now. I'm pretty sure my chance of YIOD is now %0.1 just because I clanged the thermal paste.

So if You have Apple care they still charge to clean out your PC/Computer? Laptop or desktop? Desktops are easy to clean out. Laptops require time. I've torn my wife's Dell laptop apart a few times to get the dust out. "Now where'd that screw go again?" LOL!

Again. Wait, what?

You have an 'Apple Protection Plan' but you have to pay someone to fix a problem (even if it is something as basic as a fan). And not only that $150 for a noisy fan. That's ridiculous.

Installed my new WLAN card and second terabyte HD; wifi signal is a bit weak but I still get 7000k+ download so all's good :)

And my friends wonder why I stay away from Apple.

Installed my old WLAN card in my mother's computer, moved the modem closer to my room for better signal/speed* and moved my Steam installation to my new (and thus empty) terabyte drive - 154GB of game data moved in precisely 60 minutes. :)

* Speedtest with relocated modem:

Not only has the speed risen from the 6000kbps I was initially getting with the new card, that's actually the best speedtest I've ever had. O.o

I just installed Google Chrome to replace my Internet Explorer, yes! It is so much faster, less annoying, all I was looking for but couldn't get with Internet Explorer.

I can also start competing in the GTP_WRS again! Whoo!

Yesterday I cleaned out my NES-PC and put in new thermal paste(same stuff I used on the PS3). So far idle temps are at 109-120F while before my temps were 140-150F. So far fan noise is down too to around 25 decibels(I don't have a noise meter so I'm determining how loud my surround sound has to be to overcome the fan noise).

I plan on using the Folding at home client to test the CPU temps and stability.

Installed Windows Live Essentials 2011 beta.. Found out that messenger etc don't work at all afterwards and did a system restore. :ouch:

Well, yesterday I finally got my computer after being in the computer store for 4 months and 14 days. Last evening I decided to install some games and try out my almost new pc (got a new motherboard and processor) just to find out the the 2GB of RAM is also kaputt. When I play 1nsane, it all goes well but when I want to start very recent race games, the computer freezes. This morning I used the memory from this computer (it's also 2 GB Kingstone 1066 RAM) and everything worked just fine.
Also when I start the pc I always get this message: DDR2 800 (and something else) CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR: DEFAULTS LOADING. When I go into the BIOS and hit F10 and save, it should be solved but it isn't. When I put in the memory of this computer, I don't get these messages. So it's safe to say that the RAM memory is also broken, kaputt, destroyed.

At this moment, I'm dbanning a 320GB hard drive. Hopefully it will be ready this evening.

I noticed my Inspiron laptop was overheating and shutting down quite easily so I took off the back cover and cleaned a nice solid layer of dust out of the processor thermal cooling assembly. It's been way too long since I last cleaned it I just never get around to doing it that often. Running nice and cool now. 👍

Also did some other general updates like updating Chrome, Windows Live Essentials and of course, changing my wallpaper.

Just ordered a new computer,

AMD Athlon x4 II 2.9ghz
4GB DDR3
nVidia geforce 315
500GB HDD
22 Inch HD screen

Hopefully something decent to edit photos on and might come in handy for SC2.

In the mean time I've just bought some cheap 2.1 speakers, gunna plug them into my laptop to pass the time. The screen didn't come with speakers.

Just downloaded Safari, which is now not WORKING. It's 🤬 me off.

EDIT: It's telling me there's something wrong with a......somesort of add-on. Can anyone help? I'll try to post some details A.S.A.P.

Cancelled the memory order. It seems that Gigabyte didn't replace the broken motherboard after all. I tried Volvo the game, Race On and NetKar Pro this morning and none of the games worked. Tried the same games on this simple computer and they worked flawlessly. I got the same errors like I had with my previous motherboard. I brought the pc back to the pc store this afternoon.

Definitely no more Gigabyte for me!

No kikie, you are wrong. :D

It seems that my motherboard problem has been solved. I found the solution (on my own without help). Kus van de lerares en een bank vooruit. <<<< If you want to know what this means, by all means, use a translator. :P

The solution: I used a socket with GND (ground) today and everything seems to be A OK.

Been tweaking my wordpress theme to properly show the SQL Database information for building a GT5 Car Database and trying to get the .svg image files to work, but Vulcao and I may have to just use .jpgs instead. It's great how similar (most) web scripts are logically speaking.

If I get too much traffic grinding away at the SQL DB, I may have to spend my christmas money on a new server and call up Microsoft and beg them to let me use my serial key again :guilty:..not the first time and won't be the last time

I tried to use this microphone ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001MNX9WK/?tag=gtplanetuk-20 ) earlier but to no avail. I tried all of the possible holes... :P I tried the Mic and line in ports on my sound card, the mic port on my mobo, and the mic port on the front of the PC. I fiddled with some settings which didn't help. The best I got was some feedback from the mic port in my soundcard. Any ideas on how to get it to work?
Alternatively, does anybody have a guide to get the Official Sony Bluetooth PS3 headset to work on the PC? I have a bluetooth dongle, and I tried a while back but failed...
Oh, I'm running Windows 7 64bit which appears to be more trouble than it is worth with all these driver issues I'm having with stuff like this.
Cheers

I put the side of my case back on. I was getting an error that my Display Driver (nvlddmkm) has stopped working. After two weeks of working on different things that may be causing this issue I removed the side of my case thinking it may be overheating and the problem has gone away. I just put it back and haven't had it ever sense.

From what I have gathered from numerous forums and articles that its a well known issue that nVidia and Microsoft are both well aware of and its something to do with their software not liking each other. And it could be a million different things to cause the problem. I was worried I need to buy a new video card (using a 8800 GS) right now as its all I need.

But all is well and I have no idea what the hell I did to fix it

Today I just transplanted the computer parts from my NES-PC into my new computer case. Bought the case because I'm tired of working around an Nintendo case and through my troubleshooting I determined it was the power supply going out.

Spent an extra hour trying to figure how the to insert the laptop sized Blu-ray drive into the slim bay. Doesn't help when you can't take the velcro off the drive. Makes putting in tiny screws an even harder task and made me let out some bad words. For such a small case the cable management was ok and for what you get the price was worth it.

Still haven't got Safari running. Ehh....stuff it. I'm managing with Firefox just fine. :) In a few months, I'm going to buy one of those things you can plug into the back of your Amp, and then plug it into the USB of your computer. That way I can take high quality recordings of my songs for YouTube. It'll be AWESOME! :D:D

Aside from the fact USB is notorious for picking up noise...

Switched some keys around today for my new keyboard...

Its so pretty :dopey:

I bought some cables and stuff yeterday, and have found a way to record my Acoustic Guitar. I rum my amp lead from my guitar, into the amp. Then I have a 6.5mm plug in the headphone jack, that converts to a 3.5mm lead. I then fun a 1m 3.5mm lead from the back of the converter jack, to my input jack in the side of my Mac. Simple, but effective. :D

Had 2 5770s fail on me in a matter of a week. So took back, asked for store credit and got,

gtx_470.jpg

Though just a Reference ECS one, more stable than the 5770s in Crossfire for most games, and in time can SLi them once I beef up my PSU (GTX470 takes two 6-PIN connections).

Also a 9600GT which I had laying around (Man I have a lot of video cards lying around) to use for PhysX and two side monitors. I had a 9800 too but the 9600 doesn't need PSU power which gave it the nod.

Also got a Gigabyte 8000Mx, which is the best mouse I've ever used. Give it a look if you're in the market for a new mouse. 4 DPI hardware switch (Up to 6000DPI, profiles stored in 32kb on-board memory (so keeps it without software installed), additional weights, gold plated connector, etc, etc.

And to round off new mouse pad

Bit softer than my old one and goes really well with the new mouse. Quite massive too. In hindsight maybe should have got the smaller version, I don't know who needs the massive sized one. Actual pics to follow.

Did a general clean today. Screen, keyboard etc. Does anyone know of some stuff that I can spray on my LCD screen to get rid of the smudges, and stains. I tried a soft cloth, but some of them are too hard to get off. HELP!
