Go to Wal*Mart and pick up a microfiber cleaning cloth made for electronics. It should be back by the cleaning supplies. If the wipe alone doesn't work, spray a tiny bit of water on the wipe (do not soak it) and try again.

Today I drove 2 hours (round trip) to spend 15 minutes resetting my parents' router and undoing the damage my Dad had done to the network settings on their computers as he tried to work the problem all of last week. But I got a free lunch and a load of laundry done out of it.

Yeah, I went to the Mac Doctors up the road from my place the other day, and I told them that my fan had been whirlin' up a lot more lately. He said that it's probably that there is some gunk and 🤬 built up in it. But I got the Apple Care Protection Plan when I bought it, so it's under warranty for another 23 months. That means I've got to pay some ridiculous amount for a techie to clean it out. :nervous:

I've just found this thread & can't believe this is right. This is a direct quote from the Apple store regarding hardware protection

Apple hardware coverage

I've had my Macbook in some dingy dark places at times but it's never failed me in the 3 years of abuse I've thrown it's way, so I've never had to make use of my Apple Care Protection so can't verify if they would charge you for cleaning it out.

What did you end up paying in the end tlowr4 and what was it for?

Oh & the way I clean any marks off the Macbook screen is to spray a little Windowlene on a piece of folded up kitchen roll then gently wipe the screen with it, after I go over it with a dry piece of kitchen roll this has always worked for me.

Took out my two side case fans and re-mounted them the other way around, so they'd blow into my case instead of suck out of it. Having them suck didn't have the effect I was hoping for, and with two 5770s installed I'll need all the airflow I can get :dopey:

On that note, my new 5770 hasn't arrived yet. Site said it shipped on Thursday, it's now Monday arvo. :\

Turns out my new 5770 was sitting on my doorstep all morning.

Now to get the new card all set up correctly... colour profiles ftl.

Uploaded Safari 5.0, Google Chrome crapped out, Internet Explorer is just awful, so I picked one I knew for my PC. Finally can get pics from ImageShack.

I didn't pay anything. I wasn't going to fork out $150 for some half-🤬 thing on my $1'800 dollar Mac. Stuff them. They wanted $150 or some rubbish, so that they could take the back of it, clean out the crap in the filters, fans and what-not, stick the back on it again, and tell me it's good to go!👎

Apparently "We have to do it for you, 'cause if you do it yourself, you'll 🤬 up your warranty. It'll cost anywhere from $80 - $200 depending on how long we spend on it." So I said, "Holy 🤬! No thanks, I'll wait until it desperately needs doing before I pay that much. :grumpy:"

Stuff 'em.

Sometime, I get very bored. This is a result of that boredom.

Just one great way to turn a laptop into a less usable computer. :) As a "desktop" it's pretty handy, held back primarily by my bulky VGA cable.

That's when I got the idea. Buy a netbook with a broken screen and HDMI out, then buy a Super Thin HDMI cable (expensive!) and viola!

It would be like the "All in One" computers that seem to be growing in popularity. Only mine would have a much smaller keyboard and wouldn't nearly as powerful. I tried. :grumpy:

That's a rip off for an HDMI cable. You can get a 4ft cable for 40cents and $10 shipping. Since it's the signal in HDMI is digital, you don't have to worry about getting an expensive cable.

The idea is having a thin flexible cable to increase the mobility of the thing. It's just what would be ideal. That said, it may be a rip off, I haven't really done much searching.

BTW, I didn't buy any of that stuff, just throwing out my idea of a "rigged" pc.

Just replaced my stock Intel i7 860 heatsink and fan with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.

With the Asus energy saving software I used to idle at around 40-45C, but now I idle at around 29-34C (@3.1Ghz). :)

Got tired of listening to five, 120mm deltas running 24/7 and decided to switch cases at the same time. The case I switched to is the first gen ALIENWARE case, sans all the weird alien stuff. Much quieter now with scythe fans running 12v than the deltas were when running 5v.

👍

I have a 212+ and it's the bomb.

Hm. I want one now, and they're only 40 bucks... any idea how far above the stock 2.66 I could push my i5 750 with a 212+?

How big is it physically and what does it require in terms of power?

Only thing annoying about it (which I presume is the same of nearly all coolers that size) is I had to take the mobo out to fit the backplate. That took some time... (and a few finger cuts :P I'm a noob.)

And I presume you can overclock it easily into the 3Ghz mark with it, although I'd research into it more unless someone knows here. I'd do the usual and overclock bit by bit stress testing each time just to make sure.

It's rather big but apparently smaller than some coolers in its range.

Dimensions: 120 x 79.7 x 158.5 mm (L x W x H)

I've run my i5-750 at 4.2 with an 212+ stable. But you could run something some sane like 3.6-8 easy all day I'd imagine.

In regards to removing the motherboard to install it's actually an Intel design fail. If you have a case with a hole in the motherboard the 1156 socket moved from where the 774 and 1366's are (and also AMDs I imagine) so generally you can't access it anyway. I had the same problem...

In terms of power it's no different to any other 120mm fan. Though you can install two if you want.

Nothing physical today... just did a bit of overclocking.

I bumped up my multiplier in the BIOS for my i7 860 once more, so it's now running @3.3ghz. I would go further but apparently you need to up the voltage, and I'm resisting doing that for now. :P

I also overclocked my ATI 5850 from 725 core to 840, and from 1000 to 1175 memory... would also go further but that also needs a voltage uppage.

Fairly happy with the results. 3DMark 2011 gave me a score of 3550 previously... and now with the changes 3987 (so close to 4000 it hurts!!!). :)

Jezus, that are some serious speeds. I've honestly never clocked my PC.
Running an micro ATX MSI X58M with I7 860 processor, 6GB RAM and after a MSI 4890 cyclone, I went to the new ATI 5770. Use it primarily to render video's and do editting, but I'm also doing quite a lot of gaming on it. Bought a new CPU cooler for it yesterday:) Syntech Mugen. My 220mm top fan keeps things nice and cool.

For today i've cleaned out the dust once again, played some Civ5, and upgraded my Firefox. On the Mac i've started work on a school project, did a Lightroom update, did the App Store update, browsed trough some Panda videos on YT, being active on some forums, wrote a article, send some emails, did edit and sorted out some photo's and made a back-up of all my pictures.

I just adjusted the ram in the BIOS to 512 on the graphics and overclocked the graphics yesterday so it can be somewhat good running Just Cause 2 on a Geforce 9300.

Finished setting up an unused router as an Access Point, no more useless Sky router coverage, hello excellent uninterrupted signal and 12MB/s DL. The Sky Router has been dropping out of range 5-6 times a day for the last couple of weeks, infuriating when I am trawling the web for work research.

Though oddly I can only access my router settings if I reset the damn thing, not an issue though really, and seemingly common too. (Linksys WRT54GS)

Yeah... My WRT54G after a couple of days being on 24/7 it randomly stops you accessing the router settings. I've done it so often I "catch" it when it is dying - like when it only half loads setting pages and have to constantly refresh to have all the options appear. Then it completely refuses to load them until it is reset.

Weird huh.
