It's been a long time since I've listened to this kind of music. Above & Beyond do not disappoint. 👍 👍

Yes - Yessongs (1973)

c851482d0rt.jpg

Finally got my hands on this classic live album again, making this the 6th Yes album I have purchased for a second time!

This album not only captures Yes at their best (some of their other "live" output leaves a bit to be desired, not least because of the complexity of their songs) but is also from the era when they were at their creative peak. The album contains the whole of their classic 1972 album "Close To The Edge" performed live, and most of 1971's "Fragile" and 1970's "The Yes Album". I wouldn't recommend it as a starter for anyone interested in Yes, but it remains essential for any fan of the group, and perhaps for any fan of the genre.

The only shame is that it still hasn't been remastered (watch, they will release a remastered version next week now that I have just bought the original version on iTunes  ), and as such the sound quality isn't great. However, the quality of the performances more than makes up for it, and at £7.99, it's plenty good value too...

So I have a big list coming here. A vast majority of it was given to me from a friend who was cleaning out some of his albums because he figures having digital copies of them is good enough. And as you can tell, I was a bit behind on my music shopping.

These were given to me:

Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down (Single)

Wow. Almost all of those bands, I like, or I liked, at one time or another.

I haven't reported in in a long time, but let me start with this one. You can go get this free.

Very cool song. Especially for free! :) Lately, I've also purchased:

On the recommendation of a single song by a friend, so far very impressed by the album - very similar to My Morning Jacket IMO, but that is not a bad thing at all 👍 The 'Deluxe Edition' on iTunes is the one to have, by the way...

edit: After considerable listenage over the last week or so, I have to give this album a very respectable rating - some songs are very original and memorable (notably "Mikonos" and "Quiet Houses" - note that Mikonos is not on the album, but is on the EP released with this version of the album only!!), but does suffer slightly from being a tad same-ish throughout - although the musicianship - esp. the vocal work - is superb. 8/10

Another new album, this one released just three weeks ago, making it one of the newest albums I've ever bought :p

super-furry-animals_90123a.jpg

Heard it in the pub last night, and thought it sounded like the Super Furry Animals, so I did a quick search on iTunes and hey presto, it was... just bought the album on iTunes and it comes with a nice .pdf file with four alternate covers/pieces of artwork, including the rear sleeve, which is a very nice touch that should come as standard with all downloadable albums IMO... 👍

Musically, there is some great stuff on here, from their typical psychedelic rock ("Crazy Naked Girls"/"Pric") to considerably more pop-oriented stuff ("Where Do You Wanna Go?/Lliwiau Llachar"/"Inaugural Trams") clearly released just in time for the summer ;) The rest of the album is so-so, although I haven't explored it fully yet - there is also a track called "The Very Best Of Neil Diamond" which is appropriate given the fact that you can download it for just 79p! But for the quality of the aforementioned tracks and the downloadable artwork alone, this album deserves a healthy 7.5/10

Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.

I just got this last night. For what it is, it's a great CD. Very groovy!

From iTunes:

LMFAO - I'm in Miami BiXXh

The Emperor Machine - What You Want

BennyBenassi - Satisfaction

LCD Soundsystem- Tribulations

Keane - Live at The Cherrytree House

Good stuff!

Stereophonics - Decade in the Sun
Chickenfoot - Compilation by Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith, Joe Satriani and Michael Anthony.

1st is excellent, 2nd I'm warming to.

I just bought these all in one day:
Coldplay- Parachutes
Radiohead- In rainbows
Radiohead-Ok Computer
Black Eyed Peas- The E.N.D.- Very nice to listen to with V-moda Vibes

I've been hearing this cover of "My Sweet Lord" by Yim Yames(as you guessed, actual name is Jim James). It sounds really good, really like the band My Morning Jacket. I check it out this evening, sure enough, the guy is the lead from that band.

It's a EP you can check out on yimyames.com, or on iTunes. You guys might like it. I think it's really good. :)

My ever expanding physical collection continues as I just ordered 3 CD's off of Half.com.

Audiovent-Dirty Sexy Nights in Paris

Shinedown- Leave a Whisper

I should also be getting this in the mail soon.

I use half.com all the time. Most music, I still get the actual CDs. Singles, which are impossible to find locally anymore, plus the hard to find, or individual tracks I want, I get from iTunes.

I just started using it a couple months ago and it has a lot of stuff I couldn't find anywhere(audiovent for example).

I could probably save even more if I didn't like having the cases.

Last 4 albums I bought

Pink Floyd: Division Bell
the-division-bell-album-cover.jpg

Pink Floyd: Momentary Lapse of Reason
A-Momentary-Lapse-Of-Reason2.jpg

Goldie Lookin Chain: ASBO 4 Life

Katie Melua: Pictures

I went bought some more stuff on half.com.

Than I had to re-buy the Audiovent CD since the person I bought it from before gave me a refund because they didn't have it.

ben-folds-rockin-the-suburbs.jpg

Ben Folds - rockin' the suburbs

I bought it for the song called "Gone", but the youtube video that brought the song to my attention, her cover might be better :p :

I actually like both.

Bought a couple more CD's
Daft Punk- Discovery
daft_punk.jpg

Stone Sour- Stone Sour
cover.jpg

I think I am going to have to buy a stand soon.

It took me nearly as long to buy Discovery, too. I think I bought mine either late last year, or early this year. :p

From iTunes:

White Lion - Wait, When the Children Cry

Extreme - More Than Words

Pearl Jam - The Fixer

She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart

The Thermals - Now We Can See

Blessid Union of Souls - I Wanna Be There

daisyalbum.png

Brand New's latest release 'Daisy'.

I'm a huge fan of the band, have been since I first got into rock music. But, I'm finding it so, so hard to get into this album. Maybe it's me growing out of this type of music but it's got way too distorted and the band appear to have lost alot of melody.

Brave in trying something a little different, but it just didn't work. :(

Now the wait:nervous: Hopefully it goes better than the last time I ordered off of Half.com.

Murderballads.jpg

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads

"Song Of Joy" is a dark, macabre song unlike anything I've heard before. "O'Malley's Bar" is an epic and blackly hilarious story, and is perhaps the highlight of the album. Great album... 👍

I've been busy on iTunes lately:

Beck - E-Pro, Girl

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars(live), Just Say Yes

Weezer - Troublemaker

Miss Li - Bourgeois Shangri-La(that catchy song from the iPod Nano CM)

Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

The Church - Under the Milky Way

INXS - Beautiful Girl

The Gaslight Anthem - Old White Lincoln(sounds like early Killers!)

Steel Panther - Feel the Steel(if you think that mixing comedy & metal is a good idea, you MUST check this out. lol )

Underworld - Rez

Green Day - 21 Guns

I love iTunes:

Muse - Starlight

Seether - Careless Whisper(cover 👍 ), Gasoline

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - You Better Pray

Kings of Leon - Crawl, Notion, Use Somebody

Death Cab for Cutie - Meet Me on the Equinox

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls(Vince Clarke Remix)

Sirius Radio's great for discovering newer pop/rock music!

The last CD I bought was "Odelay" by Beck. I like the song "Where It's At" but the rest of the album isn't too good.

Didn't that song have "Devil's Haircut"? I liked that one, but I know what you mean.

I got my copy of Fantasies by Metric, yesterday. Some fillers in there, even in a ten track album. It's pretty good for ten bucks on sale though. :D
