salikriazCheap? What are you on kid... Actually what m3s have you seen??
It put that much strain on the engine?
You wont get into that many accidents, it reliable because its Nissan and its cheap to replace the parts.
Ya I am. The Nissan 240sx would be my first car if i had the choice. The bmw m3 was the car that I would buy if the insurance and stuff were a little cheaper But honestly i thought this over and i would buy the Nissan 240sx (1995) its cheap it looks good in my opinion if its restored and it cheaper then the m3. You wont get into that many accidents, it reliable because its Nissan and its cheap to replace the parts.
1. With that thinking you will.
2. If it's reliable then why would you need to replace parts?
And please stop double posting, you can just multi-quote.
No, I disagree with you on that one.
First car=Let me see what she can do.
A 240 goes 0-60 in maybe 3 times the amount of a M3.
He will wrap it around a pole.
That's the reason im waiting to get my 240.
Got myself a 99 Lexus ES300 first.
Plan on getting a 240 next year, after I have a stable job.
I've seen seen 3/4 tons hold a ton regularly. On top of that I've had my friends 89 ranger hold 850 lbs of scrap and haul it the while way across town without a problem. However it did blow up after he put 33's on it.
SlashfanI run 2 sets of tires, 235x85r16 (stock) for winter and 33x12.5r16.5 for the summer. I had a 2.9l in our old Bronco II. Junk. We used to haul large amounts of stone about 6 years ago. Never had a problem. Them old Fords were built to last and strong.
salikriazGood luck sir 👍 I'd save performance mods for the 240sx though. It's gona be fun messing with that thing.
His never ran right. Always would shut off and leave him stranded without warning. It started leaking/burning oil at about a quart a week so he sold it. Whoever bought it never made it home it seized up on the way.
Actually, not so much. I actually believe that a truck is a HORRIBLE choice for a young person's first car.As I said, trophy truck for the win.
Actually, not so much. I actually believe that a truck is a HORRIBLE choice for a young person's first car.
I know too many kids that have had trucks and SUV's for their first car that have managed to get them paint side DOWN and rubber side up.
Usually navigating a dirt road at speed (under 60 mph, but over 40) a turn gets taken too sharply, upsetting the balance of the vehicle causing an over correct that results in rolling the truck.
Anything with a high-center of gravity should be saved for the second or third car, after a young driver has some miles and experience under their belt.
A couple problems with a Mustang II. First off It was NEVER available with a 6 cyl motor.![]()
Mustang II Coupe, find it with a straight 6 and it's got everything you want. They even had a fastback version.
SlashfanOurs never ran right either, always stranded us. One time we got stranded at a gas station about 2 miles from my house while my mom was pregnant with my sister and she had to walk all the way home to call my dad to tow it with his truck. Another time we were on our way into town and the same thing happened but my mom wasn't pregnant and we had to call him again lol. Only 3 miles away that time.

Did you really ask why a 16 year old would be driving too fast on a dirt road? LOLWhy the hell would you be moving that fast on a dirt road? I'm not sure where you live but there is enough potholes to bend your rims at 20mph. That's why you get an old beater and not something new.
A couple problems with a Mustang II. First off It was NEVER available with a 6 cyl motor.
Second I haven't seen a running one in about 15 years.
Third, the ones that do run are a). equipped with weak V-8's b). considered collectible by the few that own them. c). almost as rare as hen's teeth.
I was 16 in 1980. My older brother had one of these with a 2.3L 4cyl. It was a nice little car. But remember, it was a contemporary of the Pinto.
It had about the same longevity, as well.
So, other than the fact that there are probably no more than 100 "nice" running Mustang II's in the USA, and likely fewer than 500 in any shape running. It's a perfect first car.
Let me guess it would lose power then start sputtering and then die and not start for a day or so.
Did you really ask why a 16 year old would be driving too fast on a dirt road? LOL
This is Kansas. Everyone drives too fast on the dirt. Easy to hang the tail out at low speed, a rooster cloud of dirt behind the car, etc.
Both of the GIRLS that turned their trucks over weren't going all that fast...maybe 40. (no real potholes on the local dirt roads). But they were both fairly new drivers, both in trucks because "they're safer".
Neither was hurt, but their trucks were totalled.
I think a lot of kids in the current generation of new drivers will get saddled with the old family mini-van, Camry, Accord, Civic, Altima, etc when Mom or Dad gets a new vehicle just about the time the kid starts driving.
When my third son needed a new vehicle (because he killed the aforementioned mini-van), My father in law had just given my wife a low mileage Civic. I got her Camry, and my son got my Ford Ranger Splash. But he already had several years driving experience and 2 killed cars in his past.
True, I was reading Consumer Reports the other day (yeah I know that makes me look old), and "good" fuel economy is 25 mpg. I remember my mom's Galaxie 500 pulling down that on the highway, and it was running a 351W. Granted with a 500cfm 2 bbl carb. But, if a 2 ton coupe/sedan can pull down 20+ with a V-8, Surely most of these 4cyl's can get 30????
I so miss "kickdown"!
Had a station wagon with a 429SCJ with a Holley 1050cfm carb.
I'm sure it got better than the 9MPG that I usually got. But I kept my foot on the floor!
Only car I've ever driven that would do better than 100MPH in second gear.
I remember when you were buying cars in groups for $400. LOLBest first car in the states? Dodge Neon or Ford Focus, and if you're a chick a Cavalier or Sunfire. Both the Neon and the Focus are plentiful, not overly sporty but still can be fun to drive, cheap to repair and cheap to insure. Plus if you wreck it you can go to any junkyard and buy whatever you need to fix it. Early to mid 90's Buicks seem to be pretty good too since high school parking lots are full of them.
A small pickup isn't bad either since it has some utility with it and you can get the hang of RWD in poor whether with something that isn't remotely fast. I know S-10's and Rangers are stupidly cheap around here, but I'm sure other trucks are probably fine too. And with a 4cyl they aren't horrible on gas.
My first car was a 95 Plymouth Neon and it was great despite having a messed up second gear. I used to just skip shift it from first to 3rd. I couldn't complain too much though, it was mine and it only cost me $400.
Nissan 240sx FTW
