Which of these digital cameras is the best bet?

Fuji mate, Fuji. They make the best entry level cameras I've seen up to this point. If you can afford the extra $50 or so, get the Finepix A340. Same features, but it's a 4.1megapixel camera.

Steer clear of the Kodak - it doesn't have an optical zoom. I had a Kodak and it was alright. Nothing special. Spec-wise (without having seen one in person) I would be tempted to go with the Pentax.

Agreed. My family has an A340, and it's a great camera for the price. The movie mode is not all that useful though, since the image quality isn't too great, and of course it has no sound.
 
Thanks for the link VZ, and for the other guys input. The only thing that concerns me about the Fuji is the design of on of the buttons.

It is a "toggle" up and down switch similar to one i had on a past cell phone and it did stand up to wear and tear too well. :grumpy:
