Windows... 10?!?

So sick and tired of the damn pop up coming up every time I switch my computer on. When I ordered my PC, the builder recommended having Windows 7 over 8, which is what I went with. Now, I constantly get this freaking Windows 10 box showing, and have noticed that it is almost forcing me into the upgrade.

Has anyone actually done the upgrade of their own choice and thought it was worthwhile?

I upgraded from 7 to 10 on a desktop and laptop without issue last fall. I also have 10 on a cheap Asus transformer tablet and I haven't had problems with any of them so results may vary I guess. As others have said, it's easy enough to stop the popups if you'd rather stick with 7.

Be sure to read the update where Samsung made a statement that the info in the article was basically just from 1 customer service rep giving kinda bad info.

I do love how this was spun as an anti Windows 10 piece either way, when it seems like a pretty clear case of Samsung not supporting their products properly. There are certainly plenty of valid criticisms of Windows 10, and I do understand how frustrating it has been for some, like you, who had major issues with the upgrade, but this article is silly trying to blame Microsoft for Samsung not updating poorly written proprietary drivers for their own hardware. In my experience, drivers made for Vista or later have worked pretty interchangeably across the new versions of Windows, so I'm not sure what Samsung's problem is, but they've also had a year since release, and a year of dev builds before that to prepare for this stuff. Bad clickbait article is bad clickbait.
 
^Yes but even if Samung is not supporting things properly the blame will inevitably fall with Windows 10 because manufacturers are rarely held to account for OS driver changes. Fair or not that seems to be the way the world works. When there is no driver for something people blame MS for the OS changes rather than the manufacturer for not providing one.

The same thing happened with Vista, much of it's early criticism was actually due to manufacturers not having peripheral drivers ready for launch yet it damaged MS's image and not theirs.

Sounds like that really doesn't make a difference for the majority of home users who set up their one account during first boot up and are always running with admin privileges anyway. Although, depending on the way the exploit is delivered to a remote system it would still have to find a way around whatever Security/Antivirus software a user is running.

Seems like it must be a pretty non-trivial bug though if it's been present for over 16 years and someone just recently found it (even if the guy has been sitting on it for a bit before trying to sell). I know you all love to jump on Microsoft every chance you get, but come on. Privilege escalation exploits are (and have been) common across all major operating systems.
 
I tried it for awhile. It has some features that are better than W7 or W8, but I ended up just going back to Linux Mint 17 and dual-booting between that an W8.1. One thing I do not like about W10 is that it does all the updates automatically without users being allowed to change it. I've had so many times when things quit working because Microsoft decided to mess with a driver. Honestly, push Windows off onto a VM where it belongs or dual-boot with W7 or W8.1.

Microsoft has no idea what they're doing, do they? I still think it's best to dual boot between W7 or W8.1 and Linux or Ubuntu.

I'm hoping the forced updating end's when Windows 10 stops being free. But knowing MS they will continue to update people then ask for your credit card details to use your machine! :ouch:

Why exactly can Windows NOT bring back Windows 7 and support it longer and just make small fixes to it here and there? If putting out new products and innovating means breaking systems and annoying its users, then there is no reason NOT to stay with Windows 7. Linux with Crossover imo beats Windows easily.

They could do one change that would involve supporting it longer but they dont want that.
This change is making and releasing Windows 7 SP2.
Just after windows 8 came out, where I worked Microsoft recalled all retail copies of windows 7 that we had as they dont want people on windows 7.

I wonder how many businesses will switch to W10 once W7 becomes expired in 2020, considering all the problems W10 has.

By then they might have window 12.
Or they might get a new name for there OS since I heard win 10 is going to be the "last" version of windows.
But then again they might just do an apple, stay with the "10" and keep releasing new Operating Systems under the name 10
 
i don't want to make unnecessary new thread, but is it possilbe to make computer sleep on W7 without useing sleep button or going to start menu? Because i pressed something that I can't remember. Also monitor was sleeping but mouse was off (nothing special)

As far as I know there is no default key shortcut to put Win7 to sleep unless you set one up yourself or your keyboard has a special sleep button.

Maybe I accidentally pressed sleep button? Where can I set up key shortcuts? I don't think that I made stickykeys combination

:lol: Come on guys. How bout a little perspective? Win7 was released in 2009 and will be over a decade old by the time official support is ended (if it doesn't end up getting extended). You know who doesn't want to support old software, let alone decade+ old software? Every software engineer ever. I hate maintaining software at work that was written by other (long gone) developers 3-5 years ago. The applications I deal with are simple compared to the scope/scale of an operating system and the work can still be nightmarish. Bogging down a large portion of your workforce to support relatively ancient products is not really a good plan in the quickly evolving world of software. And again, the idea that [insert Linux generically here] is a better solution for everyone is complete nonsense, even with those Windows emulators/compatibility layer apps (which come with their own issues). Major version releases of many Linux flavors are pushed out even more rapidly than Windows and create plenty of their own problems.

Demanding stagnation from a tech company will always make me laugh. I assume you are still both using Android Donut or Eclair from 2009 on your phones?

I was watching a video with a song and there was a playlist called "sistem te laže(system is lying to you)". Actually that playlist contains only some songs. Maybe it's a conspiracy :D. Also I used snipping tool at time
 
Unbelievable!, after all the criticism of Windows 10 upgrade nagware in the final month it's now gone full screen and mimics the style of a BSOD to trick people into upgrading. :banghead: Literally, what the hell??!

Looked it up, and it seemed like I'd have to go into my admin account, run CMD to run the application. Tried learning how to use CMD to search for it, watched youtube nonstop....

Then I found one video, where he mentioned I could change the address of it to blank it out, so admin wouldn't feak out. Takes 4 seconds to download, 4 seconds to run, poof, able to run the installer...

So much for skipping on lunch..

What program are you trying to run?

Using the CMD is not that hard.

Right click the start menu button, click Open CMD as admin.
You will get a CMD prompt that will show either C:\windows\system32 or C:\users\prfile name\
The go cd "C:\program files\" to go to C:\program files or cd "C:\program files(x86)\" to go to C:\program files(x86)\
Then type in cd name of program folder.
Then type in program name.exe

eg.
This is how you launch Internet Explorer via the command line

When CMD is run in admin mode
C:\Windows\system32>cd "C:\program files"

C:\Program Files>cd internet explorer

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer>iexplore.exe


When CMD is NOT run in admin mode
C:\Users\Grayfox>cd "C:\program files\"

C:\Program Files>cd internet explorer

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer>iexplore.exe

It was an installer package for my flight simulator. It's quite an old program now, almost 8 years old, and was compatible for I believe Windows XP first, then upgraded to W7 when it first came out. They ceased any support not too long after release due to the low numbers sold but there's always a way or to to get things working again...

I'm pretty sure the backlash and damage to MS's image would be huge. And even if that doesn't keep MS from doing it, you can be sure that people will find ways to get around paying for W10.

They revert the change if they did.
Same as with Xbone, they said it has to be always online, cant sell your games.

Sony said you can be offline with your PS4, sell your games.

What happened. Microsoft changed their idea to compete with the PS4, If they hadn't Sony would have a very high market share.

The sony here would be Apple with their OSXXIV or Linux

A monthly charge is beyond stupid. Firstly I wouldn't buy Windows 10 if it wasn't free because it is so utterly junk in its current mix of "7,8&10" state. Secondly with so many people moving to mobile OS's now it's like MS want to kill the desktop off completely, this is the total opposite of what they should be doing to keep the sector going. 3rd parties are not going to tolerate this model because customers will go to them complaining about having to pay to use a machine they in essence purchased. You purchase a machine, you get a OS to use it for the life of the device if you wish, thats how it's always worked.

It's so ironic, Windows 10 is spyware central stealing your data so they can monetize it yet they are now asking you to pay for it.... pay for spyware to make money off you? I really have heard it all!
