It will be similar to that I think. They said at WRC3's release that only a certain number of countries had been revamped from WRC2 and the rest would follow in the next edition. So I would imagine that the ones that weren't updated fully in 3 to be updated this time arond with only tweaks made to the rest.

To be honest I am happy with that. Every country will have had its promised revamp, the graphics are supposedly being improved so that will make them look better and added weather effects, even if preset, will make it more interesting.

It's difficult to be picky with licensed games though because like the F1 games, the locations don't change much year on year, real WRC doesn't change every stage every year. Even the Colin McRae Rally games of old retained stages across games. As long as the game keeps improving where it needs to then that will be enough to keep people interested.

EDIT: A quick look on the WRC3 website shows that 7 rallies had new routes for WRC3 and of course Monte Carlo was new to WRC3. So is that 5 or 6 rallies to be revamped for WRC4?

Ah, I'd forgotten about that - thanks for the reminder.

Yes, Germany, Sweden plus a few more will likely be getting the treatment that France, Wales and Mexico et al got.

True what you say about licensed games and the locations - I'm okay with that too. The weather should make for an interesting addition. From the below WIP screenshot, it certainly does seem more atmospheric.

I don't mind it looking the same, but the sounds - damn. It is still the same. I just hope it doesn't drive the same. Looking forward to more, nonetheless.

I still play WRC3 quite a lot, its my second game to GT5. For it's flaws, the Milestone series is the only full on rally sim we have on PS3.

If WRC 4 adds more stuff to do, I'll most likely buy it even if most of the content, the presentation and gameplay is the same as WRC 3. WRC 3 was great but after finishing Road To Glory I just didn't have a reason to keep playing, so I didn't.

I know, I know; people say (quite rightly) that if you can't play a game for the love of actually playing the game then you just don't like the game enough. I say that my backlog of unplayed or uncompleted games is getting longer as time advances so I do actually need a reason to keep playing games after I've completed them, unfortunately.

Maybe you should find someone to play with. It is a racing game, so I'm always competing with my brother on different stages to see whose faster. If I lose, I'll try as long as I can beat him and it's the same with my brother. So it won't get boring even if we have driven some stages many dozen of times. Of course if there's no competing element to it, you'll just drive a stage through a couple of times and there's not much else to do anymore.

It is unfortunately the nature of a season related game - it's just the races. I do enjoy dropping back in and running some of the cars I haven't mastered yet or dared to stretch their legs fully (Group B mostly.)

Having said that, even with a backlog of games still to play, I still enjoy doing this despite having the platinum.

I think the Swedish stages have had a bit more work done, though that's just a feeling I got from watching the gameplay and there is of course the hint at full night-time (I hope.) More reveals should come during next week at Gamescom for us to pick apart :)

I purchased WRC 3 from the US PSN store I had to look under PSN games to find it and I'm not sure if it's still there but it wasn't that long ago I bought it (2 months max) along with the East Africa DLC both for $45.

Sounds same, weird effects through video, love the graphics and the stage looks very challenging.

In my opionion, the superstage has improved a lot, can't wait. WRC 3 was super fun, if all stages are improved like this one and it will feature a proper career mode (for example like vrally 3 not road to glory or similar, just pure rally seasons) i will be very happy.

Stages in Finland suddenly had uphills and downhills, that's something new 👍

There clearly have been made some graphical improvements, or perhaps it's just the brightness and contrast levels that have been adjusted. Can't really comment on the physics since all aids were most likely on and have yet to play the game. It's hard to judge just from the gameplay video alone. However, I prefer WRC3's tachometer. Sadly, the engine sounds really overshadow whatever improvement Milestone have done. Which is a shame.

But I'm still excited to see what the game has to offer. Roll on, Gamescom.

All of the above plus the stage seems to have become narrower with more encroaching rock outcroppings and drops.

I can never judge how the game will feel from third person driving, which seems so odd to me now. I'll wait until I have myself in the driver's seat before I comment on the physics. It should be good though as it's based on the WRC3 setup.

Sounds I suppose won't improve until the next game - this game and WRC3 are already better in that department than the first two - so maybe next time. Personally though, when I'm driving, I really don't notice.

You can compete in rallies of varying length from single countries of a few stages to a full-on 78 stage world-wide rally championship already in WRC3 and both predecessors for that matter - though these aren't a part of the career structure in 3 but they were in both 2 and 1.

Looks good, new Finland stages look very nice. I reckon those sounds are placeholder. They used placeholder sounds in WRC3 videos for a while up to the release.

There was virtually no difference between WRC 3's gameplay video(s) and the final product, as far as sounds go. Don't get your hopes up.

That's true, I'd forgotten that 👍

I do like the more atmospheric feel too for Finland. Nothing quite like racing along a forest track with the danger of suddenly bright sunlight or deep shadow :) Argentina was good for that in WRC3.

Could never tame Argentina. Confused me so much.

There was with the early videos. And as this is the first gameplay video.

That said if it even sounds the same as WRC3 on release I wouldn't be too disappointed.

I liked the switchback stages that went through the hills the most - the forest stages though required a huge amount of concentration to get a good time, agreed.

Same here.

Just watched it again and it certainly has been set to the easiest difficulty as there is a gap of 30+ seconds between the driver shown and Seb Loeb in second place. It might be a part of a cumulative championship total though...we'll see. I hope there will be more from Gamescom too.

Haha yea and the sounds were just as bad as WRC2, I don't think they will be improving the sounds very much.

I loved the stage designs and lengths in WRC3 but the engine sounds and physics were disappointing. In general the cars handle well but the way the car reacts to bumps and jumps on gravel stages is terrible, the slightest little bump upsets the car massively whereas in real life the cars have massive suspension travel that absorb the bumps with ease. There needs to be a heavier feel to the cars so we can slide around more.

I don't have that feel about Finland in WRC 3 and Tarmac Stages like Germany. Those were great.

Interesting that there should have been a playable demo and game introducion at Gamescom, yet I haven't seen a single video on youtube only few bad pictures on their facebook page.

Alan just uploaded his part 1 video of WRC4 at Gamescom. Sounds seems to have been improved as well. Still not there, but it certainly sounds better than earlier.

Another total redesign of the country stages. Interesting what Alan said about the stages being non repeated too. That sort of thing never bothered me but I can see it being a popular addition.

Nice atmosphere, looked like autumn, very early morning :) and up into the hills too.

looks good even if it doesn't remind me the real rally of germany. i think the old wrc 4 from evo studios is still the best game in providing the real feal of the landscape, all vineyards and militar base.
