There are five stages today.

No, there were four. One of which (SS9/11) was supposed to be ran twice, all of the others were single pass stages. If the ACM had more stages being ran twice on the Saturday then they wouldn't have had the congestion problem as spectators wouldn't have all flocked to the one stage.

As a spectator on a rally you want to maximise the chances you get to see the cars come round, seeing them only pass you once usually isn't good enough.

One of those stages was Sisteron-Thorad, which aside from being one of the most incredible stages in the world, is also nigh on impossible to access.

Wow Chardonnet almost flying off the track when he went full speed past the finish and there was a tight hairpin right after.

Clearly Obvious people are throwing Snow on the Road while the 3 VWs are coming.

Toyota confirms WRC return in 2017.

Wow incredible to see Toyota finally confirming their return. But a bit disappointed since I thought they would introduce GT cars in 2017, tired of these tiny hatchbacks.

I don't know where you got that idea from - there has never been any plans to have GT cars replace the WRC formula. The creation of the R-GT category and R-GT Cup was in response to a niche demand to enter GT cars, but was never intended to be anything more. GT cars are large, impractical and entirely unsuited to rallying. None of the existing manufacturers produce a GT car, and so having R-GT replace WRC would drive them away, and the extremely limited appeal of GT cars as a viable rally category would effectively kill the sport.

Pontus Tidemand leads Rally Sweden after the opening super special...

IN A WRC2 Fiesta RRC!

In other news the it's warm in Sweden which will turn the snow slushy which should favour the Pirelli runners (Prokop and Kubica are the main two). In shakedown one of the other Pirelli runners Michal Solowow crashed and hit a photographer who you can see flying in this video (It's ok to post since he only broke a finger and acts as a reminder to not stand on the outside of a corner).

I thought this thread would be more active in-season :(

I was skiing at Tignes during the Monte-Carlo Rally so the plan was to go and spectate on the Saturday. All the plans were made (with a lot of effort lol) but on the Friday my nephew broke his leg quite badly and had to be airlifted, so Saturday ended up being a day sat in Bourg Hospital  It was the same helicopter that Schumacher got picked up in when he had his skiing accident, which is pretty cool when you're 11 years old and high on morphine

Sweden was an interesting rally, I want to say it means that Ogier is catchable but he had a shocker of a weekend by his standards and I can't see that persisting through the season. Did anyone see him when Mikkelsen finished the final stage? Checking his hair in the camera? I really don't like the guy, I think his attitude has been wrong since he entered the sport a few years ago and that behaviour in Sweden cemented it for me. I know you need to be confident in sport to succeed but he crosses the line into pure arrogance imo.

So this has popped up at a place a friend of mine works at:

Apparently a chap is cutting frames from Lancia Beta Montecarlos like the original style to create a replica homologation like this 037, and sourcing parts. I believe he's also reproducing Lancia 8v twin cam engines for use in them as well.

The closest I ever got to one of those , was going on drives with my brother's 1981 Zagato back in '84. First car I ever drove. 👍
There was an Abarth mechanic in New Rochelle we would visit for my brother to get parts. I didn't know it at the time, that a Monte Carlo was next to the Scorpions and Beta coupes and Alfas in the workshop.

With McRae recovering from an engine change, the eight-time winner Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima suffered an incident which sent him flying several hundred metres off the road and leaving his Super 86 hillclimb machine damaged and unable to continue.

Tajima, who escaped unscathed from the high speed incident, said ‘my car is broken. my heart is broken.’

Safe to say, this will be the event to come to for the near future.

Event promoter Tony Quinn, owner of Highlands Motorsport Park nearby in Cromwell, told fans gathered at the podium presentation that the event will definitely run again next year.

Quinn saw his Pace Innovations-built Repco RTTS Extreme 4WD hillclimb finish 12th overall.

The open 2WD class victory went to Christchurch’s Trevor Crowe using a Subaru Justy.

The Open 4WD win went to Christchurch’s Michael Tall in a Mitsubishi Evo.

The rallycourse class win went to Geraldine’s Kieran Hall in a Subaru STi while Daniel Callinan took the historic rally win in a Ford Escort.

Te Kuiti’s Jim McIndoe took the motorcycle class win and Clim Tristam Lammer, from Whangarei, won the off-roader section.

Nobody following what is going down in Argentina right now? Ogier out on the first proper stage with engine troubles. Mikkelsen out on the road section before SS4, again with technical issues. Latvala has drivetrain issues at the end of SS5 and has to drive the 6km super special before reaching service. Meeke is now well in front with a 53s gap on Jari-Matti. Elfyn is having a great battle with Sordo for 3rd too.

Any local sspecialists taking part? Luiz Perez Companc still around?
