It makes more sense to stay in the WRC. They might be dominating the WTCC, but they're up against Honda, Chevrolet and Lada. But in the WRC, they're competing with Volkswagen, Hyundai and Ford, and Toyota are returning soon. The WRC has a more diverse field, and even if they can't take the fight to Volkwagen, they're still on equal footing with some heavy hitters in the automotive world.

For Citroën it would make more sense to stay in WTCC, why leave when they have 3 of the best drivers? Compare to WRC where they have Mads Ostberg and Kris Weak. I did heard that they are interested in Stephane Lefebvre to lead for Citroën but he is still too young to compete in WRC. I also think they will stay in WTCC because It´s something new, they have already dominated in WRC and wants to move on to new territory, sort of how Toyota reasoned then they left WRC for Formula 1.

It will be really sad to see yet another manufacturer with many years in the WRC to leave, the last one was Ford wich last year was in 2012. However with Citroën out maybe they will return with Peugeot?

Dramatic new look for WRC cars

THIS IS HOW WORLD RALLY CARS OF THE FUTURE COULD LOOK FOLLOWING FRIDAY’S (JULY 10) DECISION OF THE FIA WORLD MOTOR SPORT COUNCIL IN MEXICO CITY TO APPROVE EXCITING OUTLINE PRINCIPLES OF THE TECHNICAL REGULATIONS FOR 2017.

A striking aggressive look via a new aerodynamic package which includes a bigger rear wing, and engine power raised to 380bhp thanks to an increase in turbo restrictor size to 36mm are the headline changes.

Cars will be bigger due to a 55mm increase in the permitted width and a greater overhang at the front and rear, electronically-controlled centre differentials will return and they will be 25kg lighter.

The changes will be the biggest since the current technical rules were introduced in 2011, but FIA chiefs stress they are evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

“There were three main objectives with these regulations: make the car spectacular, be mindful of costs, and maintain, if not increase safety. The cars will be striking, there is no doubt about that, and there are small but always significant improvements in relation to safety,” said FIA technical director Bernard Niclot.

Reigning world champion Sébastien Ogier was delighted with the new proposals.

“As a racing driver you are always looking for more performance. I think the larger wing and new aerodynamics will give the car a bit more downforce, more grip and more speed going into the corners.

“This is also good for the show, because the extra power will definitely make the driving more spectacular for the fans. And it will also make the car look a bit more aggressive with a wider body,” he said.

WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla said the new cars would look ‘distinct and dynamic’.

“An already exhilarating sport will become even more so in 2017 and fans have every right to be excited about the positive direction in which WRC is heading,” he said.

Looks nothing like the car that Ford sells. But this Audi used to.

Thats the problem. Only something like the STI WRX and Lancer Evo look like they are rally ready. Todays hot cars are more touring car than rally car. They dont look like they'd stand a chance on a muddy lawn.

I doubt the cars would actually look like that, just wider and bigger wings of what we have now.

The biggest thing is the 380HP though that will make the cars a different animal.

New WRC looks great, as long as it stops Ogier running away with it.

China is an Important Market especially for the Brands (Crucial markets for VW and Citroen), but Wales seems like a rally that shouldn't be the one at risk here.

Rear flares look like they've come off the Team Sweden Supercar. I like the giant lip splitter more than I thought I would.

Not bad, I'm not sure if the new aero regulations were enough to make the cars look noticeably more aggressive for those looking at them on the side of the road. The 380 hp is probably going to help that, though.

I also thought RX Supercar, when I saw it.

I till remember the Sunday morning and final day of the Wales Rally GB round of the 2005 WRC, even though I was only 11 at the time. But there was no racing, no celebration after a rally stopping accident for the Peugeot 307 driven by Markko Martin and co-driven by Michael Park. A sickening impact with a tree in the co-drivers side fatally injured Michael. It kind of bought home to me the dangers of racing.

And somehow, it is 10 years already, today.

RIP Michael, gone but never forgotten.

Anyone noticed that on the wikipedia page the 2016 calendar have 14 rounds with Cyprus? Consider how close we are to 2016 do anyone think there is any chance It´s true?
The only round under consideration is China, and if successful, it will likely come at the expense of an existing round.

Well that's a deeply unpleasant presentation livery. It looks like a 6 year old's been at it with a pack of felt-tip pens. It's extremely difficult to see the natural lines and finer details of the car, no idea why they didn't just make it entirely blue or grey.

I suppose wikipedia cannot be trusted, when will they expand the calendar? 13 rounds is too few, also anyone noticed that there is no tribute to Michael Park on wrc.com? Shameful.
