I tested it out. I'm actually really enjoying it!
Graphics on some levels are great! France, Spain and Wales looked great. Rolling hills and rows of trees in the distance, good width and nicely cambered corners (They really aren't that far behind Dirt 2 mostly). The Australian stages are shockingly bad visually and in design, like something out of an old XBOX game (These are the only bad stages Iv come across).
Handling is hugely improved imo. Good level of grip and good braking distances. Cars react predicably and you can set up slides into corners nicely. I think it's a really good compromise between Arcade and Sim, not quite as detailed as Dirt 3 but still fun.
Stage length ranges between 3.5 and 9km! (maybe more but I havent' checked them all)
Some car models are decent others are pretty basic and low detail. Controls are decent, menu design is decent and really fast to load. You can start up the game and within 15 seconds be driving a stage.
Audio is a little disappointing. Nice and raw effects, crackling from the exhaust and turbo chatter but it seems really low quality like a 96kbps mp3 or something. Co-drivers a bit stiff but the call outs are at a good distance and have an good enough level of detail in the notes. A hugely fast run top speed through a narrow row of trees in Spain then a tight 90 left and she gives juuust enough warning.
So far so good. Looking forward to getting stuck into the career when it arrives.\
I swear the more I play this game the more I enjoy it. Genuinely surprised how much they've improved this game. Peugeot 205 on Greece Stage 3 is awesome! It's so tight and twisty.
