WTF! GT4 is NOT online

Saint is the essence of a casual GT gamer: ‘I’m bored of prologue/I stopped playing GT3 ages ago/I won’t buy without online/what’s the point of playing if you can’t show people how good you are’

Well your loss mate…we’re not here to convince you of GT goodness. Anyway if GT now means so little to you then I presume we will not have the pleasure of your company for much longer…👍

you'd be right, there is nothing to talk about here once the game is released.
period.
at least untill the official announcement of the ripoff expansion.

About the 1k cars on memory card: you may want to keep many versions of the same car, with different paintjobs, modifications (especially the race modification which has always been irreversible in GT1/2), etc!

Hang on.. What do you mean "there is nothing to talk about here once the game is released"?

Gran Turismo 3 has been out for 3 years. I guess there's been no activity in the GT3 forum in all that time then?

Assuming this isn't bogus, which I'm still not sure ... it would have been nice to do some online racing through a built in system (teamxlink will work fine I presume).

However, at a minimum I would expect online scoreboards, laptimes, and things such as that. The GT3times.com database is really cool, along with others on the web performing similar tasks, but it would be so much better if the game were uploading results itself. And also have the ability to share replays online. Imagine, "Here, this is the racing line I took, download my replay from the GT4 interface" - all this extra work we have to go through now is just unnecessary and irritating.

I still don't believe there won't be online play in GT4. That's just rediculous. I can't believe Sony wouldn't demand it. A top ten game for the PS2 not online ... hello stupid.

VERY DISSAPOINTED!!!!

I was going to buy it either way, but to have Online play removed is irritating to say the least. I was looking forward to this feature ALOT.

Hopefully they give us a Release Date for the online version of it coz i dont want to buy 2 versions. They better not leave it 5 months apart either.
Oh well looks like im doomed to be playing underground, burnout 3 and midnight club 3 online hey polyphony, how can you allow these games to have online play before you.

I DEMAND SATISFACTION!! PD are lucky that Nurburgring is anough to make me purchase the game, im easily satisfied, lol. But hopefully they do release the online version and not pull out of it.

They should make up for this by putting ferrari, lambo and porsche in. If those were in, I wouldn't even care about the online portion.
I would it's no good spanking the AI with ease in your Enzo, you want to beat a good inteligen driver online in it. Anyway, I don't think we will miss out, sure I want the online gameplay in GT4, but a lot of you are missing a point made in this article, where it says an online GT will be made in 2005, I would assume that might be like SEAG GT2002 online and be GT4 compatible (I hope so anyway), but obviousely GT4's online isn't up to much at the moment or KY wouldn't have removed it, so if GT4 was still planning online, we wouldn't see GT4 until sometime next year anyway, at least now we get GT4 in December and get GT online next year when it's good enough.

And all you who bashed PD for removing it, shut the **** up. They do a damn sight better than other games makers and the other GT's did well enough without online capabilities.

i couldn´t care less. i´ll be playing alone most of the time anyways.

Wow, impressive. Someone who actually uses that phrase correctly. Most of the time when I see that it's written (or said) I could care less which is quite the opposite of what they are intending to say.

Congratulations, you've impressed me (:

You're all missing the biggest part of the news.

GT4 will be out before Christmas.

If all some people were waiting for, was online play, then I'm sure there are games with excellent online implementations. Go and play them and show off to your "friends".

10's of millions of people have been very happy with their versions of GT up to now, and I'm sure many millions will be very happy with GT4. The few 10's of thousands(possibly over or under estimate, I have no idea) will be disappionted, though a large part of them will still buy the game if they're fans of racing games.

Are lot of people here will be fans of online play. The fact that they are online already, and comfortable with the technology, will bias the reaction to the bad news. In the real World, millions will just be happy it will finally get released.

I have no interest at the moment in online play, mainly because of some of the d*ckheads you find online, who go out to ruin games for other people, if I did I'd have been PGR2 months ago. I want my GT obsession to start again, I just hope the feelings I get playing it are as intense as the first(offline only) GT.

Stop moaning, and look at the positives. All your anguished cry's will change nothing.

haha! good one!... 👍

they fooled me out of a network adapter, a new playstation 2, GT4-P, a driving force pro and a lot of waiting time, and then they cancel the most important part of the game that they have been talking about and promised us for over a year now

well, it's ok.. it really is because i read that GTR is coming out this november, it can support 56 cars on track at the same time and GTR is even challenging because you have to do more than just hit the brakes as hard as you can into the middle of the corner and then nail the throttle out again to get a good laptime. LOL. yes, i'm saying this after driving the new BMW Demo.

maybe PD should have spent some time writing network code and optimizing THAT, and real handling physics instead of adding pointless NOS upgrades, "drifting", drag racing and tons of other annoying stuff just to please all the little kids out there:dunce:
it's all for the better though, it really is, because getting online with a bunch of NOS'ed up Skylines and EVO's around a racetrack would have been incredibly annoying anyways.
the way they are going will ensure that GT will never be anything but living-room entertainment for casual gamers and not the "driving simulator" they want it to be. the real drivers will stick to LFS & GTR among others and when GT4 finally goes online it will be riddled with nothing but kids just like NFS:U

so this is it Sony! i'm throwing my ps2 out the window!! :mischievous: i'm not buying GT4, GT online, and probably not GT5 either just because of the way you've been stringing us along for all this time, the only thing i'm keeping around is the DFP, but ONLY for a game that acctually delivers what it says.

it's no good spanking the AI with ease in your Enzo

If the enzo were in, and with realistic handling, you would run of the track in the first corner. It doesn't brake untill the brakes are flaming hot. Ease, pfff.

You could brake half a mile early in GT3 and still outbrake the AI, so I don't think that will be a problem ;).

How does not having online play in GT4, fool you into buying GT4P?

If you bought the PS2, GT4P and a driving force pro, and put them in a cupboard and didn't use them, or bought them for 1 game, then you're the fool. If you've had use out of them, and enjoyed them, then you haven't been fooled. If you bought a Network adapter only for a game that hasn't been released yet, then you are a fool again. If you have used it for other games, then you haven't been fooled.

Seeing as you no longer have any interest in GT4, online or not, I'll bid you farewell now.

I did not buy GT4-P for online mode, i knew very well that it didn't have that capability, i bought it to be loyal to the franchise and get some practice in until the REAL GT4 was supposed to be released jan. 6th 2004 :dunce:

yes, i am a fool for trusting PD and Sony when they made there promises. congratulations for getting my point! the ps2 and network adapter was purcased ONLY for GT4, and it was purcased Nov. of last year, a month before it was coming out (yeah right!!). like i said, i rather enjoy the DFP so i will use it for another racing game, thank you.
so once again, yes i am a fool for trusing PD and Sony! that's exactly why i'm not touching this game anymore, because they have fooled me, and i don't like getting fooled, get it yet? i'm usually not a naive person and i take self criticism for trusting anything they have ever said. definately won't happen again!

Seeing as you no longer have any interest in GT4, online or not, I'll bid you farewell now.
thank you, but i'll decide for myself if i will leave or not.. and i'm not leaving yet.

I also got this message from a different source, being the "sony playstation online beta testers"

The message is in Dutch though, I'll give a summary after the short fragment :

"GT4 not connected.......!

Gt-world

greetz,
NAP"

Summary :

Because the makers of GT4 want absolute perfection, they don't believe that the current broadband connections are sufficiently fast to provide an optimum game play.

My 2 cents :

I am at peace with their decission, the game will kick some major ass on its own. Laggy connections and freaky players might ruin that.

Yep, farewell j_, ofcourse the rest of us will all enjoy GT4 as it is, and thoes that want GT online will get it later on in 2005, when it's ready.

and i am aware that PD did a lot in one year... too bad just not where it counts, have fun with your photo mode, director mode and what not, i'll give you a few days and then you won't ever touch those features again. meanwhile people have played online games for years rigorously because of the replay value it offers, it's a good thing i'm covered on the PC front with GTR, or my purchase on the Driving Force PRO would've been useless. (why invest 150 bucks on a game that you'll get bored with in a few months TOPS?)

Gran Turismo 1 through 3 had neither online mode OR photo mode, director mode, or any of those extras. And yet it has incredible replay value. You act like GT4 is now almost unplayable!

So with online racing out the window, does anyone think there still might be downloadable content?

Bonsai
Honestly i think Sony is trying to rip their customers off. Paying 3 times to get one game ( GT4P, GT4, GT4 online) ? Boy i think that is arrogant. Do they really think in 2005 the good old lag will have dissapperead ? Man something like this really makes me mad ... RIPPOFF PERIOD !!!

No one forced you to buy Prologue, and no one is forcing you to buy the online addon.

Everyone seems to forget that the online mode will be available within a year of GT4 being released. I think it's well worth the wait just to have flawless online play instead of heavily lagged crap that'd be worse then playing against the AI.

ONLINE IS NOT OUT OF THE WINDOW, IT'SJUST NOT READY YET. Read the damn articles people, if GT4 wa going to be released with online, it wouldn't be out till next year, probably another 6 months, instead were getting GT4 in December, and an online version next year, which will more than likely be an addon thats compatible with GT4, or just a re-released GT4 with the online added.

The359 beat me to it ;).

Hi everyone. My first post here and I am going to make my mark by pissing all over.

The truth is that I feel a certain way and I wish that I didn't. I am really unhappy about the way I feel regarding this announcement of no online play for GT 4. I am very disappointed in myself because I know better. Before I give out my thoughts in detail, I would first like to give you a background on me.

I own a Gamecube and an Xbox but not a PS2. Regarding online, here in Cyprus where I live there is no online play to begin with but I am connected to the net via DSL. If online play was an option for me then I’d pay handsomely to get GT 4 online (As I intend to buy a PS 2), but sadly it's not an option. Now I will get a little analytical and judgemental from here on so you'll just have to bear with me.

This forum is so alive and so active. It's a thriving community and that is great. I don't want get too off topic so here... In all thriving forums there is a common weakness that I’ll refer to as “anonymity”. Since people are anonymous, there are no worries about being laughed at or being made fool of on questionable posts. This freedom can be very creative and liberating in some regards and limiting in others. Like for instance a person who would otherwise have no confidence to speak his mind in the real world, would find courage much easier to attain online, this being the good example. But when it comes to gaming news and arguments in general the problem is obvious… “Halo is ****”, “PD and GT 4 are ****”, “Zelda is ****”, “Micro$oft”, “$ony”, “Lamecube” etc. The underlying truth is that a conclusion is never accomplished. It’s all just a blabber talk… people who basically think they know it all.

Let me paint a picture of people’s views regarding the GT 4’s lack of online support. There are two kinds of people, well maybe three... but I’ll focus on the two most prominent kinds of divisions. The first type which I will refer to TYPE-Red is people ranging from adults, children, fanboys, hardcore fans, haters and nonfans. Basically all kinds of people can be TYPE-Red. An instance of TYPE-Red people on this specific thread regarding this specific issue are: tiptopcream who started the topic, SSJChar who was the second person who was strongly opposed, CrAcKaJaP206 was also disappointed but calm, BAZZ with his “PD, burn in hell.” comment, Then there is SaintKamus who is very strongly against the lack of offline play, TheCracker, GrF.:satan-san:, jlo56, Leo_Straight6, Bonsai and super supra. The characteristics of TYPE-Red people regarding this specific news are: Negative, pessimistic, TYPE-Yellow, critical, firm, involved and hardcore. To be labelled as TYPE-Red you need to at least have two of those characteristics but not all.

Then there is what I will refer to as TYPE-Blue division. TYPE-Blue People range from adults, children, fanboys, brand fans and casuals (though there are some hardcore people). Again, it’s a quiet a broad range of people. Instances of TYPE-Blue people on this specific thread regarding this specific issue are: supra_luva209, Leo_Straight6, I didn’t wanna put The359 in this section but after several posts it seemed inevitable, Ev0, l33tc4k30fd00m, SHIRAKAWA Akira, marduke, MistaY barely made it here as well; and Samberto. The characteristics of TYPE-Blue people regarding this specific news are: Positive, optimistic, TYPE-Yellow, forgiving and understanding. To be labelled as TYPE-Blue you will at least need to have two of the characteristics but not all.

All the rest of the people who’s nick’s weren’t mentioned and they posted before page 6 were all of TYPE-Yellow. And most of the prominent TYPE-Red and TYPE-Blue people also had a lot of TYPE-Yellow such as: SHIRAKAWA Akira, SaintKamus, TheCracker, Leo_Straight6, The359. Some of these guys contributed a lot though in the process the were arguing against each other. Some of the people who I would like to mention that are of TYPE-Yellow exclusively: Jedi2016, DRIFT4EVA, Nemo, _aj, hellnback, yeti, Shen Yin, Dev_Zero, Famine, Arwin, LoudMusic, BROCKY. TYPE-Yellow people are realistic people. My favourite comments came from Touring Mars, HellnBack, The Cracker and Shen Yin though I am sure I am forgetting couple of important ones.

So what do I think? Well I am of TYPE-Red myself. Even though I would have never played online I am very, very disappointed at the news. This could imply many things. For one, they could rip GT 4 into 2. They could remove parts which were never announced but were intended to be a part of GT 4 in order to ship the online capable version with “updates”. Likewise with an online mode GT 4’s popularity could reach sky high on online message boards such as this. Also, a lot of resources were spent on online just for it to be cancelled? Not many of us will buy two versions of GT 4 you know. But in all honesty I am really upset at myself cause I know that all most things can be explained. Like for one, Sony might charge zilch for the online only version (maybe through magazine or some kind of promotion). Likewise it could be a miss translation. I say to myself “Segnit, you know better then that. It’s just a game so stop being upset, and besides you were never gonna play online anyway” but the truth is I am so disappointed. I am disappointed and for the lack of online feature and for my inability to control myself as it’s not the end of the world.

Sorry about that, I should have clarified my statement. With online racing out the window "for the pre-Christmas release" . . . and so on. I thought it was understood that the discussion was about the current release of GT4, not the 2005 release date.

Welcome to GTP, thats an interesting post there.

In that case no, I don't think there will be any downloadable content for the pre-online GT4.
