WTF! GT4 is NOT online

Gt4, whats the point. :yuck:
1 Shiny new DFPro after much comment and reaffirmation about GT4 online mode, to perfect my laps to within 15mm of the racing line, to compete online against the best out there, might as well not have bothered, no need to be perfect in an AI world, should have saved my money and bought an X BOX in preparation for FORZA, and continued using my DS2.

GT1 was groundbreaking new racing game, where online wasnt an option.
GT2 was an expansion in to a massive racng arena, online still not an option.
GT3 was the first foray in to Ps2 territory, yet apart from polished graphics the game was dull, due to crap AI, and was the first Gt I couldnt be bothered to get more than 60%.
Next up the Promise of GT Online, this announcement was made even before GT3 released.
Even after cancelling the release last year of GT4, and after E3 saying they fixed the online issues, didnt they realise that Europe had a fairly low Broadband take up?
(Boy do I feel Stupid, just upgraded to a 1meg connection, wireless router, bridge and network adaptor, all just in the last few days, not to mention the DFP just for GT4, Oh well im sure something else will come along to make me want to hook all that up to my PS2 and game online)
Do they really expect things to change that much over the next year. ( I Highly doubt the arrival of a New online game in 2005, with Developement needed to complete the PSP version, and the get into full swing For PS3 GT)
GT4 becomes a huge dissapointment suddenly :(
YES it will still be a good game, but it could have been the best Console game ever.

What the hell is this all about?

Mission races

Another new concept to be debuted in GT4 is the mission-based racing event. Much like the 'scenario' modes seen in a number of football titles, these mission races won't necessarily begin at the starting grid. For example, you may be required to win a race from a few seconds - or even a full lap - behind the opposition. Polyphony has introduced this option to give you the chance to instantly experience typical dramatic racing situations, as well enjoy the challenge of trying to clear the mission objectives.

I guess the AI hasnt improved that much!

High scores

Finally (yes, really), there's the newly-implemented high score system. Typically, races in GT have imposed all sorts of race regulations - tyre types, maximum horsepower, etc. - which has restricted the variety of cars allowed to compete in certain events. GT4 omits many of these regulations in favour of a high score system which lets you earn points from successful races based on the vehicle and modifications you use.

Win a race at a disadvantage - driving a 200hp car in a 400hp race, for example - and you'll earn more points than, say, winning the race in a 600hp motor. In effect, this gives you the chance to play through the game as you wish, whether you prefer to progress quickly at the expense of points, or to take the risk and drive at a disadvantage to send your scores soaring.

That an the addition of NOS and B spec mode makes it sound like the withdrawal of Online mode, has been replaced with arcade features.

Boll#x to it, Im really Peed at the mo, dont care if this partial rant makes any sense.

And another one who has just seen GT4 not online and turned away, do you know why GT4 is not shipping with online? Do you know that it will be made online next year? Read the articles and you should be grateful to PD for not keeping us waiting for GT4 till next summer.

I have not yet read any in depth articles, NO.
Yes I am Piss#d, Been looking forward to having a truly fantastic racing simulation, game on a console and taking on all-comers (PC gaming dont work on this crap), since PS2 launch, with all SONYs Promises, PD been working on this for 3 years, still they keep promising, NET problems have always been the same.

I will still enjoy the single Player game.

Could you post a link to the best article detailing the problems of the online mode if you have them.

I'm disappointed about the fact that they took the online out.
If they release GT4 now and 6 months later they release GT4-online just with the online as extra feature I wouldn't bother buying the second game, but suppose the second game also gets new cars on top of the online, then I will really feel cheated, because I would be forced to buy it just to get the new cars.

There links in the thread for the new IGN articles in the first post, and KY has said an online GT will appear next year.

Thats your problem if the online GT thats released next year is literally just GT4 with the addition of online than we should be able to swap our GT4's for that free of charge, if it does hae extra's then I would pay for it and your not forced to buy anything, if you want the extra's then you buy them, if you don't, don't. If you don't want to pay, don't pay.

What's the deal with Online playing not been incude in GT4? That means because it doesn't have it is gonna be the worst racing game ever(IMPOSSIBLE). If you want a perfect game go pay $10million to PolyphoniDigital to make you a custom made game to your specs. GT4 will still be the king of racing games till GT5 arrives, FORZA :yuck: Gimme a break.

Forza will be a kick ass game, may not better GT4 but it's looking very promising. Anyway if you've come here to start an anti-Forza campaign you won't get far, and theres a thread for a GT4 v Forza discussion already.

I'm starting to think the same.

It could also mean that you get a faster car than the ai.

for example: you have a Supra and you have three laps to overtake the ai in an MR2.

Is anyone else starting to think that GT4 is going to be a let-down of biblical proportions?

That's true, but what really got me thinking that was the point system. Eventhough I think it's gonna be a great system, the fact that they reward you for driving w/ slower cars makes me feel like they are still on the GT3 AI. I always use pathetically slow cars to get a challenge, is GT4 gonna be the same? I hope not :guilty:

After reading all the reviews & articles of the TGS & the news of no online YET, I'm only about 70% disappointed currently.
I can't recall which of the articles, but they said that the problems "were within the broadband structures of Europe & Japan" or something to that effect. I wouldn't imagine that would've been the case, as they seem to be very up-to-date on all technologies. i dunno.

either way, when the online option is available, i'm sure to get it as well.(along with everyone else who says"**** you Sony, PD,etc...)
i am happy to be finally getting a new product at all.
things could be worse, it could have been pushed back until the online was finished.
i am sure that SONY told them they HAD to have some sort of product to market by Christmas or they would be losing out on a ton of cash. that's the thing, when you start dealing with a corporate situation with profits & losses, the product & it's quality are always compromised.
i am sure that the when the online abilities are available, then it will be a small fee to upgrade to it, but i wouldn't think that you will have to buy a whole new game to access the online play.

i just wonder how it will integrate with the current GT4? like something that is stored on your memory card or something?

No online. Too me it already is.
The rest of it just sounds like a load of Mish Mash crazy Ideas.
And If the AI isnt good then ill file it with GT3.

TheCracker

The good out-weighs the bad...but everyone always focuses on the bad :odd: If the AI sucks, as much as I love GT, I will stll be extremely disappointed. How can they make the same mistake 4 times?

maniko

Wheres the Challenge in that?

Could be a hard drive thing... I mean, the hard drive comes with the network adapter, yes? You connect, download the necessary software to the hard drive, then pop in GT4 and play. :) If they add hard drive support, that is.. which would be great, because then they could continue to provide new cars and tracks.

TheCracker

Not me. In fact, I think it will be one of the greatest console racing games. In my opinion, the lack of a real online mode is overcompensated by the inclusion of 100s of cars, 10s of race tracks and by an extended gameplay over previous GTs.

maniko
It's just an example and I think they will put in some very tough challenges.

Where does that leave the rest of the game if the only way to make it challenging, is to race underpowered again!

GTXLR
Wheres the Challenge in that?

That's kinda like what they did in Prologue, it was a lil challenging but was more coz you couldn't touch other cars. AI is gonna have to suck in order for you to catch up. They will probably have the same scenerio (one car crashes, other takes bad turn) but every time you race.

GTXLR

I really think that the AI is improved in a way that it makes the AI just as good as an average human driver.

Wow! Online gaming is not avaible
So sad....I mean , as I sad in another thread : There is so much things to do , you don't need to get online .... Maybe it does suck that there is no online gaming avaible but c'mon!
Who care's about the crapy AI? If the ai would good as you/me then it would be almost impossible to win ;)
I still goign to buy it!

Of course I'm gonna buy it, but how hard can it be to program a competive AI? All I would want is for the damn cars to avoid me, not rear end my car...and to pass on the inside/outside w/out slamming into my car. That was the only thing that frustrated me in GT3. I don't mind losing as long as it's a good clean race.

slighty disapointing........I'm not really too bothered because at the end of the day........ITS STILL GONNA BE A GOOD GAME!.........the online part (or what was the online part!) is only a small bit of a game which has so much more......most of the time you will be playing sim mode on your own so what does it matter.....the community will still be there...........it just wont be connected to your ps2! Hopefully PD was gonna drop online ages ago and went about making it a better game in other ways (more cars, tracks etc......) lets just hope.......

:) 👍

Oh yes, i forgot about Taking lots of pretty pictures and watching the AI race for me. :yuck:

At least it would be a challenge.

great minds think alike...
the fact is, the PS2 should've NEVER shipped with out of the box LAN, why? because the dreamcast, wich was older hardware had a built in modem, wich at the time, was
what most people used to connect to the internet, and by the time the PS2 launched that had changed (hell, i had cable by then, and i'm in Mexico!)
only now they have out of the box LAN with the PSTwo, but for what??? when their benchmark game doesn't even take real advantage of it? (LAN play is TOO rare, for real, way too hard to get people together for this)
When GT3 came out i was very dissapointed about not getting online play... but i let it go by, cause sony was to blame, no network adapter in sight, even though lots of dreamcast games allready had GREAT network play, like F355.
what the hell kind of $hity excuse is "europe and japan problems", seriously, if people have good network, they'd use it, if not, well NOT, end of story!
good thing my DFP works on my PC also.. i'd be even MORE pissed if it wasn't for that.

if sony continues to leave online play on the sidelines, xbox is gona beat the $hit out of them come next gen consoles, at least in the US (i don't think MS stands a chance in japan). xbox live, like it or not is a LOT better than current PS2 netowrk (wich is inexsitent, we have to rely on developers to write networking stuff for evry game).

if things continue like this, MS could really stand a chance of getting at least 30-40% of the next gen console wars.

ONLINE IS IMPORTANT, GET IT SONY+PD?

i was REALLY hoping GT4 would make that PS2 netowrking adapter finally take off. guess the PS2 will die with out great online games.

That completely sucks if its true. After waiting all year since January, then to hear that it won't be online. 👎
The only good news about this is that I won't have to spend $49.99 on this game now. 👍 I will make a "backup" of it since its not going to be online. If this information is true it saves me money.
