Damn it to freaking hell! That's what the hell is wrong with some of you people. You let a little thing like online play determine what makes games great. In terms of games I played, did GTA: Vice City (PS2) have online play? No, but still a great game. Did Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution have online play? No, but still a great game. You CANNOT determine great games from good games by looking at silly multiplay. I think it's very nice to battle opponents that aren't AI by telling someone who thinks he/she can play better than you. And who wouldn't want to see GT4 players from two different sides of the world taking on each other in wicked races? You're going to get LAN play with this build, and the last time I checked... THAT'S STILL MULTIPLAYER! LAN is online play, even if you are in Los Angeles and wanting to play someone in Sydney, Australia. You want to compensate for this? Why not gather up a bunch of friends and come up with your little neighborhood battle. Then, you may want to branch out to playing against all great players in your cities. GTPlanet, DO NOT be afraid to improvise. I've been up S*** Creek several times in my life. When I have something that is less than stellar, I try to improvise and turn junk into gold.
And on the subject of AI, play around with "Pro Race Driver" and try to win every race. That's the worst-case scenario for racing game AI. Multiplay is fun, but don't tell me that this is going to determine what makes this game a failure. Don't tell me that Polyphony Digital failed to live up to expectations. Don't tell me that the most anticipated racing game in history is going to be second-best to some other game because of no online play. Besides, PD did everything in their power to try to get GT4 into stores come Hell or high water. Be thankful you're getting GT4 even if you only get 12 cars and the Nurburgring Nordschliefe. Hello!? GT4 will feature Photo Mode, a brand-new physics engine, cars of now and going back to 1886, many new tracks, damn-near-real graphics... and all you can tell me is that all that matters is online play? Some of you need to get your priorities straight. Why did you love GTs 1, 2, and 3? You wanted cars, tracks, features, graphics, and all sorts of things. If online play was around at the debut of the PlayStation2 and GT3 had online play instead of i-Link, GT3 would probably be loved more for online play because no one would give a damn about the single player experience. And since we'll all have to wait for the online mode to be in GT4, it doesn't mean the world is coming to an end because this year's iteration of GT4 will not have online play broader than a LAN. It just means that you'll get GT4 even if you don't give a crap about GT4's single player experience. A game has to be good on its own before you challenge the world. It's always been that way, even to this day. That's why I'm not as hyped up about online play. So I'm with The359 on this one. Oh, and say what you want about me. I don't care. I'm just sharing my views as anyone else would. Think I'm whipping up crap, ignore me and move on in life. Anyhow, points stated, and I'm done here after unintentionally saying more than I have to on a normal basis.
