In light of the Version 2.0 update with the possibility of custom PS3 theme's, I thought it appropriate to start a theme thread.

User submitted themes are welcome. If you need a place to host the theme, send me a PM.

Great idea for a thread. 👍

You probably planned on it any way, but maybe you can keep an updated list on the first post with links to threads and posts where GTP member's offer their created themes, and links to other sites hosting custom themes. 👍

Exactly! :)

there is no install, it's just a compiler which makes your resources files go into a .p3t file :)
you've to drag and drop (or use command line) to compile a .XML file!

Awesome thread. Here is a link to an easier to understand tutorial:

Here is a link to download some that I found on the sony forums. These ones are both very good. They look very professional:

Here are some links to download a few that I found on the official PS3 forums"

The Simpsons, Very well done. Very funny too.:

Heroes Theme, this one isnt very good, but hey if you like the show Heroes:

This one is funny, all the icons are RRoD's. Ugly and poorly done, but funny.

Here is one called "Playstation Storm". I dont know if its good yet or not, but here is is:

Thanks for all the great links DP, but the one for the Heroes Theme on FileFactory isn't working for me. I also tried to search for "Heroes Theme" and it came back empty. :odd:

Hmm, its still working for me. Im not sure why its not for you. At any rate, its not very good at all, so you aren't missing much ;)

Oh, I also found a video tutorial that some kid on the sony forums made. I havent watched it, but here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJd-bU-VJuc

And a link to another one I found:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/b2zycg

Oh and look what else I found. There are a few new themes on there, including a vista look alike. Check it out!

http://www.ps3hax.net/index.php?cat=50

And apparently one based on a Mac computer.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A33PMQLF

Well all the ones on that ps3hax website are in .rar format, which means they havent been compiled yet, so they dont work. Oh well...

Oh i get it , so to put it simply for every theme you would need a folder similar to the sample file (i.e. has all the icons replaced ..etc)

I really like the look of that Vista one, however I am still eagerly awaiting Alba's GT themed one. Perhaps I'll use the Vista one until his is released. :D

Sorry for the double post.

I'm having some trouble getting the themes to work. I do everything the instructions tell me to do, however when I insert the USB stick into the PS3 and then Theme Settings and ask to install, it see's the USB stick however doesn't see anything on it, any help?

Without knowing or seeing exactly what you are doing it would be impossible to know for sure.

However, theme files must use the .p3t extension and must be put in a folder titled THEME and that folder must be in another folder named PS3:

As long as you follow the instructions Sony provides, you should have no problems. If you are having problems, it sounds like at least one step is not being done properly.

I did all of that. It still isn't working. Would it make a difference on what file system the USB drive is? Mines a FAT32.

FAT32 is the same file system as the PS3, so your problem lies else where.

Is it just the theme that it isn't seeing, or all files on the USB drive? If you don't have any other files, go ahead and make a folder called PICTURE and copy any jpeg into it, then see if the PS3 can see that.

I just tried with a jpeg, it didn't see that either, doing the exact same thing as with the theme file.

OK I'm running Windows XP and I've downloaded the custom theme creator. Can someone explain to me step by step what to do next? All the instructions have gibberish about command prompts etc I have no clue what they are talking about

It sounds like you have an additional folder that the folder named "PS3" is in. Either make sure the PS3 folder is not in any other folder, as shown in the instructions, or when you are on the XMB, press the triangle button when highlighting the USB drive and select "Display All" from the options menu. This will reveal all folders.

If this is not the problem, please plug the USB drive into your PC, then open a window showing exactly the folders on the USB drive, then take a snap shot of your desktop (Function+Print Screen). Then post that pic here and maybe I can help you figure out what's wrong.

Here is an example that I just took of my USB flash card:

It's still not working, so here is a snap shot of the folder's I have got on my Memory Stick.

Strange. And you say you also created a folder titled PICTURE, and puts jpegs in it and they also were not recognized?

If so maybe you have a bad card? If you have another type of memory card or HD, maybe try that instead. If that also doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.

EDIT: Here is a quote from the alba's Gran Turismo PS3 Theme thread that has a great link for 3D regional flag icons for use in themes and XMB User icons:

These accounts icons - are these what you can use in place of the existing pre-defined set of "avatars" available, or are they used elsewhere? I think it would be great to creat an icon for "Hong Kong" as well.

Your Folder under the PS3 Folder appears to be named THEMES.
Digital-Nitrate's Folder is named THEME. Perhaps all you need to do is rename your Folder to THEME.
