Jimmy EnslashayThat's quite offensive. Aboriginal people aren't just some novelty. Are you trying to say that Abroginal people should be dancing around entirely because you want them to?
Good. You added the words "for my benefit" at the end of your sentence, which made your post seem very different to what you were apparantly trying to say.Anderton PrimeNo, I was making a point that the shot of the Aboriginals dancing around a fire is a little over the top...and I then related what I saw of Aboriginals when I was actually in Australia. My contention is that the video makes Aboriginals look like a novelty, when they should not be treated like this...

Anderton PrimeWow, how absolutely incredibly racist. How do you feel about this trend? Is it a common attitude shared between Australians, or so-called "mates?" I guess you're a mate as long as you conform and act / dress / speak in the same manner as other Australians.
Why is that exactly ?... If some schmuck vandalised my car / motorcycle / apartment / whatever, I'd WANT him in jail for 9 years.. And that is after he gets a well deserved beating with my baseball bat...eliseracerI just read that you can get up to 9 years for vandalizing state property in Australia. That is absolutely stupid.

Far Eastern tourists are everywhere. We get them over here aswell. You go to London and you'll see loads.APThere are Japanese tourists EVERYWHERE.
They never played with or approached the Kangaroos. They showed them in no better a situation that lions lounging in the sun. Do you instantly think lions are friendly and approachable?Kangaroos that live in the wild are not friendly or approachable; they can kill you with one well-placed kick.
eliseracerBecause stealing 9 years of someone's life because they created art on faceless property is ludicrous, when there are far uglier public images on display that deface public property, which the government gets payed to have there.
Trust me, a hard slap on the wrist, some comunity service and a 1,500$ fine will stop a young graffiti artist.
Flerbizkya young grafitti "artist" - You're absolutely right...

Since when has vandalism only been about graffiting?eliseracerI just read that you can get up to 9 years for vandalizing state property in Australia. That is absolutely stupid.
I never would....eliseracerDon't you dare deny it as an art.
ExigeExcelSince when has vandalism only been about graffiting?
Vandalism can be going down the high street chucking bricks at shop windows.
Vandalism can be smashing up a historical building, like driving a JCB into a 30 y old building.

How so? It's showing you the good aspects of Australia that you may come to like whilst visiting, and if you're gullible enough to believe that Australia is perfect from watching an advertisement, then that is entirely your fault. As has been stated multiple times in this thread previously, an advertisement for a country will show the positive aspects of it's subject, and attempt to entice you to visit there. Is there something really wrong with that?danoffIt reallly borders on false advertising.
Oh yeah, because painting consists of drawing images over the top of places in which they have not been asked to, nor are they allowed to.eliseracerBecause being a painter is considered being a vandal.
I was thinking the same. Art is fine, it's great, but if you paint something on my building, I want you punished. Yes, I do think 9 years seems little harsh, but bottomline, you shouldn't be painting your "art work" on something that does not belong to you.Jimmy EnslashayI'm sure if any of these people wanted art on their property, they would have it organised legally to do so. Besides, I'm quite sure there are other ways for people to get into art and/or painting.
Me too.Jimmy EnslashaySorry, getting a tad off-topic here.

The discussion is to do with the advertisement, if you read the thread title.eliseracerThat is all an erntirely different discussion. The point still is 9 years is what some people get for manslaughter.
ExigeExcelIs the guy at the beginning holding a half-pint!? I thought you Aussies could drink!

bbq_sauceapparently you can be charged with assault if you look at someone dirty, or in a way they don't like, in australia.
Small_FryzIts almost impossible for a criminal in Australia to get a maximum sentace, I'm certain most murderers get less than 10 years, and are out after like 7 - 8 on parol IF that.
