PD really need to employ a lot more staff. 150-ish staff isn't enough now, they need at least double that amount. GT5 isn't a terrible game, but it's very unfinished and it shows. What other game on PS3 & 360 has PS2 cars and tracks?! They should've just cut out all the 'standard' cars, there would've been less cars, but the game would've looked more consistent. The problem is that they don't have enough staff... PD, if you're reading this... hire more staff! If PD don't hire more staff and they start producing unfinished games, then the Gran Turismo brand will be severely damaged and will lose the good reputation that it built up in the PS1/PS2 days. Oh well, whenever PD are ready to actually release GT6, in 2014/15/16, then they'll have to make sure that it's finished because the Gran Turismo brand has already been devalued by the incomplete GT5 and PD need to fix the brand's reputation with GT6.

This and this. Amen.

So you don't think GT5's cars, premium at least, and the surrounding mountains/tuscany/valleys/etc., aren't goergoues (or however you decided to muff up gorgeous)?

That is the problem though, only some cars and some tracks look good. Forza may not look as good as the premium cars and tracks but they are all equal and pushing the 360 to the limits, unlike GT5 and it's standard cars and tracks which aren't.

Good good. Take as long as you can PD.

Oh please.

GT5 biggest selling game on the PS3. Of all time.

Your childlike advice is childlike.

A few years? Is the PS3 even going to be relevant then? OR are they going to push GT6 to the PS4 and we won't see it for 4-5 more years because they will "need" to redo everything.

What you think need to be redone? It will be GT5 Photomode in motion, without any frame-drops or shadow problems, also in 60fps 3D. Enough for the launch title.

Good good. Take as long as you can PD.

Biggest selling of all time? According to who?

If you check VGChartz, the 3 best selling PS3 titles are:
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops: 10,470,000
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2: 9,230,000
3. Grand Theft Auto IV: 8,210,000
4. Gran Turismo 5: 6,420,000

It's a HUGE seller. But isn't the best selling game of all time or even the best selling PS3 title of all time. No matter how many times this myth is repeated.

Not one of those games you mentioned are exclusive to the ps3.

But the sales numbers listed are only for the PS3 versions.

"a few years" = over 4 years

This is a good theory. I think either GT6 the last shout for the PS3, pushing the console to the limit (as it is now) and be polished as GT5 should have been because by then they would have had a year more than Kaz would have liked to finish the current game. The benefits of this mean, they're still working on the hardware they've been used to for, what, Eight years (2005/6 - '13) all while tuning the base software (GT5 platform) "To Kaz perfection " with patches and updates. All they'll need to do then is add content, read as: Premium cars, and weather/daylight transitions for more tracks. Maybe 200 cars and 10 tracks are what will take the two years. But by time this is all ready to go gold (if you listen to the rumors) the PS4 is only 1 year away! Sony will make the first PS4's backward compatible to keep the "Core" consumers happy so you'll all have something to play at launch.

And now the other ending: Sony asks GT6 is developed in the same way as above and just plonked on the PS4 as a launch title (in 2014). Either Kaz is happy that GT6 is an acceptable finished product and lets this happen despite the fact his latest software doesn't even make the PS4 warm to touch then just calls it a day and moves on to GT7 ready for 2018, or he gets carried away with all the new found power of the console to do a simple port and starts making GT7 straight away but still puts GT6 on the box for release day in 2016 (its optional whether he says he would have liked two more years here).

Sales =/= great game.

That GT5 sales data comes from end of 2010, when GT5 was only out less than a month and a half.

The paskowitz steps to redemption:

GT5
-Release GT5 Spec II this year (fixes most bugs adds some content)
-Keep seasonal events updating on a regular basis
-Patch exploits as needed

GT6
-This really the most important point. Launch title for the PS4. No exceptions. They have all the GT5 premium models. Tons of track data. Great car dynamics. And a decent online structure. That is more than enough to start from an finish in 2-3 years.
-Car count resembles real races. Yes, 50+ cars for Le Mans.
-1080p, 60fps with full res cars and tracks.
-Same great attention to detail in cars, applied to tracks
-500+ cars. 30+ tracks. All unique.

For GT6 it should go like this: physics, graphics, content, everything else.

If GT6 is not going to be a PS3 title then I don't want it to be a launch title for PS4. Launch titles are never optimized for new systems and it would have time constraints for release. We all know that isn't a good thing for GT games.

Like your thinking here. ;)

Also why does everyone whine and compare with Forza when PD supposedly makes a huge fail? If PD makes a decision, live with it. It will end up for the best I can tell you...and still everyone whines about how they aren't getting things done. Why can't we all just live with the game we have right now? It's stupid how people say the game is 'half-finished' when the game is clearly out. A half-finished game is a Prologue, and we've already had that. So please, whiners, can't you pack your bags and go home? There isn't anything wrong with PD from what I can see, so why can't you think the same?

[/rant on ranters]

Man this is unbelievable. Do they never learn?

Kaz: "We set the groundbases with GT5, so you can have GT6 MUCH earlier", yeah right... -.-' Sony should realize that PD needs more manpower, GT5 is a GREAT driving simulator but in MY opinion, a MISERABLE racing simulator and a mediocore game.
Only left to say that they'll hopefully release GT6 on the PS4, bitches.

Much sooner could mean 4 years since it took almost 6 for it to come out in north america. So come down and go play Forza, seems like you would like that.

How do you know that? I'm not saying it's wrong. But I'm tired of people making outrageous claims about GT5's sales numbers without a single shred of evidence. If it's wrong, prove it. If there's another source of numbers, a reliable source of numbers, than post it.

People have questioned VGChartz's stats for a number of reasons. Some of their numbers don't jive. But there's nothing to indicate that their data is from 2010. In fact, I would say that's pretty outrageous to claim it's 9 months out of date.

...Wow.

Also, notice how it's only actually Sony Japan saying it? Although they are technically speaking affiliates of PD it doesn't mean PD are the ones saying it. We can only know for sure till they confirm it. :irked:

Good grief. I wonder if all this backlash hasn't put PD off doing another GT game ever. I'm pretty sure Kaz is sick of it by now, he's been making this one game for 17 years. How many people have been making nothing but **** in that time? :p

Seriously, the lack of respect (regard, consideration) for PD is entirely unwarranted. If you think Forza is a better game, good for you. Nobody really cares, save Microsoft. Neither series is perfect; no human being is perfect (that includes you! And me.)

So, this next game. Any outlandish ideas as to what they might come up with?

Once again an incredibly self centered and selfish comment. Just because YOU are happy with GT5 as it is does NOT mean everyone is. To be honest I'm seriously sick of people using the "whining" "whiner" comments. GT5 would be a MUCH BETTER game if PD listened to those you so callously call "whiners".

So sorry for 'wasting your time' guys. :sly: And flame wars between Forza and GT has it's own thread.

Because it comes from Polyphony Digitals latest Sales data from Dec 2010 (as noted on the bottom of page in the link below)

http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

VGChartz's number is only 50,000 more than the offical data from Dec 2010, I don't think PD made 6.37 million sales in a month and a week only to make 0.05 million more over 8 months.

But Jay, that link indicates the number of units shipped. VGChartz's number refer to the number of units sold to end consumers. It's a very distinct difference and it could easily explain the discrepancy. How many retail copies of GT5 are sitting in stores and distribution warehouses around the world at this moment. A few hundred thousand? A million? Two million? Either way, we need to compare apples to apples. And it still does nothing to support the assertion that GT5 is the best selling PS3 title to date.

Well you're not going to get a better source, no where does it say shipped or sold in the offical link, I also put a lot more weight into it than VGChartz's which has been proved to be a horrible source in the past. I would like to know VGChartzs source, but we cant.

If GT6 is not going to be a PS3 title then I don't want it to be a launch title for PS4. Launch titles are never optimized for new systems and it would have time constraints for release. We all know that isn't a good thing for GT games.

I wouldn't worry about that. Resistance: Fall of man was a launch title and its one of the best games ever made.

I would bet on it coming out on PS4 for sure though.

It's still irrelevant either way. Like I said, sales don't equal great game and the original comment was that PD need to take on more staff if they want to make a better, more 'finished' game. Which is probably true.

Forget Forza or any other game, forget the actual gameplay of GT5 for a second, plain and simply with a bigger team and better planning GT5 could have contained 500+ "Premium cars" and each track could have been highly detailed. I don't know why people think we should just accept what PD gave us in that respect and say ok, that's the best you could do.

People talk about the technical limitation of the PS3 holding this game back but that can't be excused for the lack of quality content.

Well you're not going to get a better source, no where does it say shipped or sold in the offical link...

Conveniently, yes. But I think it was widely argued to be the case that Sony, as the publisher, reports units shipped, not units sold. VGChartz has pulled some dubious numbers in the past, which lead to a beating on their reputation, but that does not mean they're all invalid. The point is, we have a number, from a common source, for the top four selling games. I have yet to see another renowned reporting firm that claims GT5 is the top selling PS3 game. If VGChartz under-reports GT5's numbers, they're probably under reporting the other titles as well.

It's still irrelevant either way. Like I said, sales don't equal great game...

I didn't claim that it did. But there are a few people who repeatedly make claims about GT5 being the best selling PS3 title. Something for which there is absolutely no proof. But there is evidence to the contrary.

Personally, I like GT5 very much. It's my all time favorite PS3 racing title. But I'm not like most people. I'm looking for realism. I'm looking for a full blown sim. I don't play off line and I could care less about earning credits or buying cars or my "A-spec Career". And with a group of like minded people, with all aids off, the physics and FFB are quite good and arguably better than anything else on the PS3 at the moment. Is it as good as GTR Evolution? As RFactor? As iRacing? No. Not for the things that are important to me. But I'm impressed at just how good it is. And I too am looking forward to the next great update. There are a lot of little things I would like to see addressed but to me, it has two serious problems: (1) A slipstream that's much stronger than reality. (2) A very unrealistic tire model where all compounds seem to wear evenly relative to each other and none of them lasts long enough.

So I'm pleased to see that PD is still hard at work, tweaking GT5, improving it, making it better. As a console game that has to appeal to a broad market segment, GT5 has to be all things to all people. In that, PD did an impressive job. But it could be better. And hopefully, through their efforts, it will be.

Adding more people to the mix doesn't equal a better game. See, anyone can make such mute-points.

You can whine all you want about what you consider lacking 'quality content' but at the end of the day you're just a whiner. An armchair critic, with no creative success of his own to compare anything to.

Just like the kid telling PD from his bedroom that after selling over 6 millions copies of a game, they need to hire loads more staff and restructure their entire business. Yeh I'm sure Kaz would be stunned at such mind-blowing insightful input.

You should go run PD SimonK, show em how it's done.

Your childlike advice is childlike.

Here's an idea. Why don't you lay off the personal attacks and try reasoned arguments. 💡

We've had, what, 10 updates to GT5 since it's release? And according to Kazunori, at least 2 more are on the way. If Sony themselves now confirm that GT6 is a few years away and PD is still working on GT5, I'm guessing it will be more than two. Personally, I'm happy because I think GT5 is actually a good basis to build off of and the game could be supported just as easily through DLC.

But I hardly think, slowly building the game into the title it should have been and arguably could have been upon it's release was a long thought out strategy and plan by PD. It was what they were forced to do when the deadline arrived and they couldn't deliver the game Kazunori intended. I don't pretend to know what PD's budget is or was. But Simon and others are probably correct, when they suggest that better organization and perhaps a larger staff, might have helped them achieve deadlines and goals.
