You can blow your motor? Cool!

I was wondering the same thing :D
I've seen tons of smoke in the Street stocks at Charlotte pits after accidents, but never thought an MX5 could blow an engine.

Blown engine was just how I won my first race! In the SRF, said his shifter went down 2 gears instead of 1 in the first corner. Still, a wins a win :)

Just happened again. I didn't even miss one shift... :guilty: Is it also random, sometimes? :scared:

As far as i'm aware, it's not random. You can do it from down changing too early or hitting objects like excessive kerb hits or a wall. Just make sure you're not down changing too early and you should be fine.

Strange, then. I down-shifted at my normal point (I've run at least 200 laps of Okayama Short this week, in the MX-5 Cup) and the engine blew... Otherwise, I don't think I shifted out-of-sequence at all. :( Maybe this can be a question worth asking to iRacing themselves?

You might be downshifting just early enough that its okay 199 times out of 200. You can overrev a little bit on downshifts, but you'll only get away with it so many times.

My trust factor in the Nvidia cup seems to drop to zero on weekends and in my first race I was punted in turn 2 by a guy who typed "good luck every one" "clean race plz" "careful on lap 1" - in 2 different languages! Apparently 3 wide in turn 3 @ Okyama is a good idea 👎
Finished 4th with the wheel off by about 15-20°. Really annoying.

So I tried a start from the pit in the next race and wound up with an incident free race and a 3rd place finish. Did it twice more and had the same result. In all the races the same 2 guys were 1-2 at the finish line and they were within 1-2 seconds everytime. I watched the replay and they were just amazing drivers. Always within a car length and never any contact. It was really fun to watch. Both drivers were almost a second faster than me so I would never have kept up even If I had started from the grid.

The races sort of took on a GT5 seasonal event feel when starting from the pits - start at the back, and try to pass everyone :) way more fun than I had expected.

Ok, my grid race starts are normally okish, I very rarely have bad starts but most of the time they're pretty average. I usually expect to gain 1 or 2 places from those that get wheel spin.

But today, wow, I got the best start I've had in any racing game I've ever played. This was in Star Mazda at Watkins Glen. I started 10th and was instantly along side 9th and 8th place. One car ahead jumped the start so we went 3 wide and then another car got a bad start.
Thats 4 cars before even braking for the first corner.

I then proceeded to place my car in between the 2 cars ahead, out-braked both and ran the wide line. The 3rd place car was slow out of the first corner, so I ended up on his outside going through turn 2/3 and then into the slipstream of the 2nd and 1st.
I then pulled out alongside 2nd place heading towards turn 5 and then out-braked 1st place.

I couldn't believe I had just done that..after qualifying 10th I had expected everyone to be much faster than me. But I benefited hugely from everyone being too careful at turn 1 and then carrying far more exit speed on to the "straight".
It helped I guess running a low-downforce setup as everyone is so bunched on lap 1 at Watkins Glen that you can overtake a lot of people just down that first straight.

In the end I finished 2nd after a long defensive fight against 2 cars who were easily 0.5 faster than me. Pretty damn happy with that!
Hoping to replicate that start again in my next race!

Today, 2 starts for 2 wins in street stock. Was running 2nd in the first one before the leader spun, and 4th in the second one until there were about 3 big wrecks caused by the same person. Was his first race, I think he needs some more practice

This scares me to even try Nascar

Hydro, (my countryman,) are you still in Rookie? If not, nvidia Cup is only fun for so long. Maybe it's time to try something new. I'm really liking the Jetta I just bought. :)

I thought I'd end the season doing some Street Stock too, was having a good few races until I was taken out of the lead by a dude doing his first race too. He was a lap down so went high to let me through, he then tried to follow me but forgot to brake and slammed straight into the back of me :ouch:
I think the 1st timer in my race caused several other accidents too, wondering if we were in the same race

Nope :D
I jumped right to a C (3.45) in a couple of days and now I need to make a choice of new car / track to get both the C and B mpr done.

The cars I always wanted to run are the Ford GT, Indy (for road tracks), and The F1 so it's time to pony up some $$ I guess. The F1 can wait, but the other 2 cars may as well get picked up asap, or a couple tracks and 1 car I guess.
I've been reading through the threads here though, and it looks like the Indy road series isn't the most popular. Too bad, I do love the open cockpits. Decisions, decisions.....;)

Edit: a 'test drive' option would be awesome!

I guess I will post the last 2 races since I went back to back wins in Class B oval at Michigan.

The first race I started in 17th out of like 20 people or so. We did roughly about 30 laps when caution came out and I was up to 3rd at that point. We all pit and I was the first car with 4 tires which put me back in 4th. Restarted with 8 to go because we had another wreck with a back marker as we were coming to green. I ended up passed 2/3rd pretty easy coming out of 2, but then had to wait for leader to make a small mistake which he did with 6 to go. I pulled away from him and won which surprised me.

Now next race was last race of this season for class B which I started in 10th out of I think 18. I made a mistake in early laps and dropped to 13th while probably 13-6th were all battling pretty close. I finally got through those guys and caught up to 5th after a probably about 10 laps but never got close to passing him. Everyone started talking fuel at that point so I was watching the gas but didn't change my driving style which made me good to go on laps even though I was still catching cars infront of me. Caution came out as I got by 4rd place because he was pitting but was still in the groove and 6th ran into the back of him. We came around for pitstops and I was the first taker even though I could make it for sure because I knew tires would be a good choice, so right sides only with 3 gallons of gas to make sure. We were coming out of 4 and 5th place had a huge run on me which he got by me to the 3rd car. He ended up passing us but we both got by him on the inside next lap, and then I got by 3rd because he had old tires. 2nd didn't cause many issues with because of backing up the corner so I drove in deep to make the pass. The leader had got a 1.5 second lead with about 7 to go and passed him with 4 or 5 to go but he was right on my tail even on old tires. We had late caution on lap 44 coming to the white flag which probably saved me possibly!

I hadn't won in awhile and went back to back was pretty awesome for me! I love Michigan and glad I found a way to drive the car fast while saving fuel too.

Just checked the results, and yes we were! You almost had me too, it was only .3 gap in the end.

Managed to take the win in the V8 Supercars Online Series last night and wrapped up a 5th championship. Over the moon with that, really had to fight for the wins.

Final round was last night and whoever won out of me and Justin Ruggier (championship rival) would win the championship. I got a great start and led to start to finish, tough race though. Huge SOF as well, 4621 and 292 points for the win!

Major congrats on that win man. Since iRacing hooked up with V8S I hope they can do some cool promos like NASCAR does with the winner of the WCS, you deserve as much.

Was there at least a prize of some sort?

Thanks mate. Yeah, they do a bit of promotion on the V8 website (www.v8supercars.com.au/onlineseries) but there's no prizes at all. Although there is a lot of sponsorship in the series now which is fantastic.

Yeah.. keep at it Madison. Maybe one day V8 Supercar will give you a test in a touring car/single seater of sorts :D I've seen Shane Van Gisbergen compete in your league. Is he the only real V8 Supercar driver in there?

Congrats Mad, awesome stuff 👍
I've watched a couple races but still have no idea how you do it

There are a few out there, Fabian Coultard is one, and a young kiwi guy Scott McLaughlin (made V8SC debut this year) is another you may see around.

There are a lot of V8 Supercar Drivers that have iRacing but Shane Van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin (Development series driver, was a co-driver at Bathurst this year with Jonathan Webb) are the only 2 drivers that really have fantastic pace. Those guys win top split races on a consistent basis and are very tough to beat.

My latest race was the first "official" in the new season. I raced two times this morning (which is during night in the US) and due to lack of participants, there were no official races.

So debut in D-class oval this evening european time (late model). Started 6th (slowest of the qualifyers) and finished 7th. Had 2 times contact with opponents. First spun in front of me and I had no place to go. Second pushed me from behind, which ended his race and didn't affect my race noticeable. I drive the basic setup. I need to work on it, if I want improve my lap times.

For me as a European it's difficult to get amazed by this short track racing. My right hand was in pain, because the whole race was a never ending lefthand corner ;-)

After 3 TT's and 1 race my SR improved only slightly by 0.10ish. So it's a long way to enter C-class and drive the Dallara.

Just finished my second race. Even if this series is A LOT better than the rookie street stock series (referring to unnecessary crashes), I guess it will be a VERY long way to C class. And a painful way...

Just had a nice little drive in the Nvidia Fixed Series (Makes a nice change from Grand Am and SRF). Me and this other guy were having a nice little battle as we pulled away from the pack, I started in 6th, he started in first and I took the lead on lap 8 and slowly started to build a gap to him. Then he spun. So after 10 quiet laps besides a few hairy moments with traffic I gained my 5th win of my iRacing Road License career (6 wins in total Oval + Road). This sure helped my SR after the killer week 13 and it was also my second win since week 13. So I am now .20 SR close to Class B :).

Here is the after race report...

The guy I was battling with still managed to finish second due to the gap we had pulled out...

I foundmyself a new championship. Star Mazda is awesome. and its alot diffrent to other cars i have driven.

My last races i could finish 5th and 7th. Becaus other people make mistakes.

I have the feeling my driving is ok, somehow i still miss some speed. everybody seems faster then me while i feel confident whit car and track i still miss some seconds. thats very odd.

*jealous* Fine, you're two wins ahead. I joined a bit after you, though.
