Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Tourist Trophy

A new set of Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races is now available, bringing three new events running throughout the coming week and including a debut for some of the content added in the recent 1.43 update.

It’s a return to the regular format, which once again sees Race A positioned as a one-make sprint race for road cars, the road-based Gr.4 racers in a short blast in Race B, and a longer and more tactical event for the Gr.3 category in Race C.

You’ll need to buy or borrow the second-generation Audi TTS for Race A, which takes us to one of the shortest and least complicated tracks in the game: the Miyabi course at Kyoto Driving Park.

This simple, egg-shaped track — similar to the Driving Park Beginner’s Course in previous GT games — features a large-radius corner and a small-radius corner, with the two straights also including chicanes near the latter.

With few braking zones there’s few clean overtaking opportunities in this seven-lap race, so be prepared for a bruising encounter in these identical vehicles on Sports Hard tires. That may have an effect on your Sportsmanship Rating but, as is often the case in Race A, Driver Rating updates are turned off.

As usual, the race includes a grid start with the “false start check” feature enabled. This penalizes you for jumping the start with an on-the-spot cut in engine power — for about as long after the start by the amount by which you jumped it — so keep a foot (or finger) on the brake or handbrake until the lights go out.

Race B heads across the Pacific Ocean to California, with Laguna Seca hosting the Gr.4 action. You can use any car from the category, so long as it’s fitted with Racing Hard tires, and the recent change in Balance of Performance is having an effect on which cars are competitive in the class.

Unlike some recent weeks there’s no vehicle tuning allowed other than Brake Balance — which can be adjusted on the fly during the race with the brake balance feature in the multi-function display — so it’s just you and the car against the track and the other players for this five-lap event.

Similarly Race C only features brake balance adjustability with no other tuning as you head over to Italy’s “Temple of Speed” at Monza. This track features the highest average lap speed in Formula One, so it’s set to be a race for the speedsters among the Gr.3 category.

It’s a ten-lap race and, unusually, features no tire wear or fuel consumption multipliers. This means that you could do the whole thing as a sprint if it weren’t for the mandatory pit stop.

You’ll need to take one trip down pit lane — no fuel or tire change is required — during the race, and you’ll want to execute this at the right time so you don’t lose the slipstream. Failing to do so will earn you a one-minute penalty after the race.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday March 18.
