This week’s new Online Time Trial has a familiar ring to it. Gran Turismo 7 puts everyone in the well-worn Hyundai Elantra N TC ’24 for a lap of the chicane-free Grand Prix layout at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on Racing Hard tires.
The Elantra needs no introduction, which is the problem.
Since the physics overhaul and BoP changes in Update 1.71 landed in August, it has been the Gr.4 car to beat, and Gr.4 Daily Races have been Elantra one-makes in all but name for two months. Last week’s 1.72 update finally revised the BoP, so, naturally, the very next Time Trial is a one-make in the exact same car.
It also follows directly on from last week’s Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo event, which was already drawing grumbles of its own, so two underwhelming combos in a row won’t do much for the mood. The venue is a familiar one too, with this layout having hosted the Yangwang U9 as recently as April.
Having said that, it’s the only new event on offer, and a Gr.4 car on Racing Hards around a track most people know by heart is at least an easy one to jump into. If you want a target, anything under 1:53 should be safe for gold once the event closes, 1:55 ought to cover silver, and under 2:01 should be enough for bronze.

Last week’s Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo event at the new SUGO International Racing Course, on Sports Soft tires, has one week left and closes on Thursday, October 29.

Online Racing Event
Rather race the Elantra against real people than against a ghost?
The SNAIL Racing League hosts casual online races every week using the current Time Trial’s car and track, and anyone is welcome to join. Head over to our forums for all the details!
Accessing Online Time Trials
These events live in Sport Mode, which unlocks once you’ve completed Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. Our full unlock guide is here if you need it, and no PlayStation Plus subscription is required.
When an event closes, rewards are based on how close you got to the top time. Gold goes to anyone within 3% (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr), and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).
A new event arrives every Thursday, each runs for two weeks, and the oldest drops off as the newest lands. The next new Online Time Trial comes on October 29.
