Gran Turismo World Series partner brand Mazda has sprung a little surprise at the Round 2 event in Tokyo, revealing an updated “Evo” model of the RX-Vision GT3 Concept car is coming to Gran Turismo 7 soon.
First revealed at the GT World Finals in Monaco in 2019, the RX-Vision GT3 Concept is a fictional racing car based on Mazda’s svelte RX-Vision concept car. Designer Ikuo Maeda, who also penned Mazda’s Vision Gran Turismo, the LM55, it’s essentially an evolution of the original coupe into a putative GT3 racing machine.
The GT3 subsequently arrived in GT Sport in early 2020 — in a standalone update — and became a staple of the competitive esports modes, replacing the earlier and similarly fictional Atenza Gr.3, with a distinctive quad-rotor wail that makes it very obvious when there’s one on your race grid.
As one of the three brand partners for the World Series, Mazda qualifies automatically for live events and the world finals, but the drivers still have to fight for their spots and take on their rivals on the global stage. In fact the RX-Vision GT3 has just come off its best season to date, with Mazda finishing runner-up in 2025 behind the victorious Porsche squad.
With that success behind it, and six years under its wheels, Mazda has chosen to riff off the real world and develop the car further into an “Evo” model.
Maeda himself is behind the updated model, noting that he “wanted to portray its evolution on the track” while not compromising the car’s “beauty and presence”. In these initial images it’s clear that the changes are subtle, not changing the car’s overall look, but not too hard to spot either.
Aerodynamics is the key — Evo cars usually mix this with improvements to reliability, ease of servicing, and drivability, though this doesn’t exactly apply to GT — with changes all around the RX-Vision GT3.
At first glance we can see a new lower front-end treatment, with new intakes, fog lights, and a change to the splitter to no longer require the separate stays. There’s also new canards and the upper hood has new latches located between the headlights and wheel arch.
Around the back there’s an entirely new diffuser arrangement, with what looks like a central rain light, while the bodywork behind the rear wheels looks to have been extended and widened slightly. There’s also a new rear wing mount, and fins in the side skirts ahead of the rear wheels.
The car isn’t in use at this weekend’s event, and is set for a public debut later this year. That’s not likely to be in the upcoming 1.71 update, with the four cars teased already identified, so watch this space to find out when!
