The second year of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has not got off to the best of starts, with KT Racing acknowledging a number of issues with the recent Season 5 update and promising a swift resolution.
While not quite as dismal as the game’s launch back in 2024, the S5 update has brought with it myriad glitches and bugs affecting multiple platforms and not necessarily always in the same manner or aspect.
After KT Racing’s efforts to address the game’s problems while also bringing more content and activities over the past 12 months, it had been an update full of promise. S5 brought with it an important expansion to the casino offerings — for players who can access it, given that it’s banned in 61 countries — to add poker alongside the slots that had been there since S4.
Not only that, there was a brand-new event type as players could engage in taxi missions for the first time. There were also major map updates to refresh the buildings and architecture in areas of Hong Kong Island, and the first building sites to signal the highly anticipated Year 2 feature of player houses.
But, once the title returned after the update late on Wednesday, it rapidly became clear that there were several pretty glaring issues too. Actually, extremely glaring as you’ll spot from our screenshot above which is a result of a problem with the game’s HDR (High Dynamic Range) graphics setting.
With HDR switched off (if you can even find the menu button to do this among all the white; we’ve noted in the comments thread how to do it) the game plays normally, while HDR enabled looks like 30 seconds after someone got a 25-kill streak in Modern Warfare 2 with a permanent, pervasive glow.
That is only a minor issue though, and relatively easily rectified, compared to some of the other glitches — one of which renders the game entirely unplayable to players with a certain specification of PC.
If you happen to have an AMD 9000 series graphics card in your PC, there’s a solid chance that you won’t even be able to boot the game up after the Season 5 update. Virtually every report of the game crashing on PC has come from players with AMD 9000 cards, although it’s not exclusive to them.
Other issues are affecting the Solar Pass, with players commenting that the Level 1 car which should automatically unlock — the Lamborghini Urus Graphite Capsule — is not being delivered. Players have also reported not being able to redeem the free Solar Pass levels bundled in with the Gold/Silver editions.
With the next scheduled update for the game, known as Season 5 Update 1, due in December and no open public communication on KT Racing’s official channels since, it’s left many players wondering when the fix is coming.
Thankfully the developer has now announced that it is working on a hotfix and that this will be delivered “by the middle of next week” (or around Wednesday November 12), with more details to come on Monday November 10.
