Vroom! is a Toy Car Battle Royale Set for Launch Next Year

As if there weren’t already enough reasons for driving game fans to be excited for 2022, there’s one more thing to look forward to: Vroom!

Revealed only today, Vroom! looks set to be among the most fun games around. The principle is pretty basic, and features players driving around in little toy cars while dozens of other players do the same — either solo or in squads.

You’ll not only be racing around what looks to be the messiest games room in the entire of human history, but waging war on other players as you go. The game’s trailer shows a variety of obstacles, from pre-schoolers’ wooden building blocks to a very man-child table soccer table to navigate around, though the reveal announcement suggests there’ll be multiple environments with varying challenges.

As we can see in the trailer, all of the objects are interactive, but some of them have more effect on the cars than the cars do on them. Players can push around the smaller items, but bigger ones can punt your vehicle some considerable distance. There’s also exploding items which you can use to “punish opponents”.

That explains the description of the title as a “battle royale” game. The trailer doesn’t reveal that much about this aspect, but we’re going to assume that you can knock out, destroy, disable, or trap opponents to eliminate them from the game, with the goal of being the last car driving.

In addition, players will be able to get new vehicles and customize them too. The trailer shows a pick-up truck, 60s-style formula cars, a big rig, cherry pickers, and even a cement mixer. It appears that they come in a variety of finishes, from wood and high-gloss ceramics, down to the kind of plastic you’d find on a Kinder Surprise toy. One sequence shows a car jumping through a colored hoop which changes the toy’s own color.

The developer, Adam Bernath, says he plans to release Vroom! for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles next year — yes, that’s next-gen consoles only, with the game developed on Unreal Engine 5. Judging by the pre-alpha build video below, we can’t wait:

It seems different enough from fall guys or PUB type games. Seems a little slow but I can see plenty of people liking it. I should be able to play it with my son.
