Wrench Will Let You Be Your Own Digital Mechanic This Autumn

It’s been a little over a year since we last heard anything about the game Wrench. Now, with a new announcement from Missing Digit, it looks like the game is close to an early access release.

When we first looked at Wrench, the concept was pretty appealing. You could work on and modify your cars all with laser-scanned parts. Not much is different now, but the game still looks pretty cool.

It still appears there’s only one car in the game, the Catfish. If it doesn’t ring any bells, it’s a Mazda Miata-based kit car from the company Bauer. While it’s not the lineup we get in games like Car Mechanic Simulator 2018, it’s still a real licensed vehicle.

Taking a look at the official website for the game, we also get a chance to see the parts in greater detail. It’s remarkable how true to life everything looks, right down to every last nut and bolt.

This will help with the realism of the game, especially since it’s meant as a VR title. However, if you don’t own an Oculus Rift don’t worry. According to the Steam page, you can play the game in a desktop mode.

The Steam page also mentions more about what we can expect for the game too. It’s not just a digital playground to build one car. Instead, you’ll run a motorsports shop where you need to meet the needs of your customers.

This means meeting a timetable for race weekends, upgrading vehicles, and performing setups for certain tracks. This adds a bit of depth to a game that, at first, looked a little shallow. You also have the ability to expand your business and hire additional mechanics to work in your garage.

As of right now, there’s no concrete release date. All the Steam page says is Fall 2018. But since we are quickly approaching the autumn months, we expect it in the next month or two.

Thankfully, Missing Digit posted a trailer for its upcoming game. In it, we see the entire engine build process in action. We’ve included the video below if you want to check it out:
