33% of People Waiting for GT5 Don’t Have a PS3

If you’re reading this site, you probably know Gran Turismo 5 is a big deal for the PlayStation brand, but we can’t often quantify that into numbers. Data collected by marketing research agency OTX GamePlan, however, gives a peek into stats you know Sony is taking into careful consideration. According to their latest survey, 33% of people who plan on purchasing GT5 don’t yet own a PlayStation 3 console to play it on. In other words, if GT5 sells anywhere close to GT4’s 10.9 million copies, there will have to be several million consoles out the door along with it. For a system that sells around 10 million units per year, that would be healthy increase. Without a solid release date for the game, though, those consoles could be sitting on the shelf for a while…

Well I fell under this catagory until today. I’ve been enjoying the living daylights out of FM3. The thought of yet another RROD was too great. I took my losses and traded my 360 for a PS3 slim. Now I need to get a wheel and GT5 full needs to release. Then I believe I will be where I want to be. I’m looking forward to racing ALOT. Racing is most of what I do. I really hope GT5 is what I expect.
PD/Sony………Please don’t have a big lag between when this game releases in Japan and when it releases to the rest of the world.

  2. Anthony

I am one of those people and like Darmanos I didn’t buy my slim PS2 until GT4 was available and I bought both and a memory card at the same time. I have bought nothing but used games and PRD3 was the only new purchase and mainly because that was game much like GT but different with a different style and different tracks (a few the same).

I wanted to buy a backward compatible console but when Sony announced they were dropping that and using other measures to reduce the cost of making the console so they could offer it at a lower price, I was thrilled and thought Sony must be finally getting ready to release GT5 in March of 2010 as was once said on this site. March 2010 has come and gone, were no closer to a GT release date than before.

Sony if somebody from your PR dept is reading this and surely they do read these things –

I will NOT purchase a Sony PS3 console to match by previous purchases of the original Playstation and Playstation 2 until you release the game that always shows the power of the console and has the most replay value – GT5

  3. Grueber

I’m another in the alleged 33% (I believe it’s more like 50% since these surveys are conducted by fools using a sample population for the numbers).

Only reason for me to buy a PS3 is for GT5, prologues are rubbish, also note that there is bound to be a better wheel coming out for it, you can feel it, that it’s stupid to buy the driving force cause it’s a placeholder, good wheel will either be bundled or come out a month after GT, after silly people buy the old driving force because no better wheel has come out at the same time, it sucks to be on the dog-end of business, so avoid it by not buying the Driving Force starting…. NOW
(Hell, I’m going to try and use Namco’s awesome JogCon with GT5 via USB adapter)

[The PS3 has had the worst launch imo, boring all-gloss games like resistance which you just play because of the ‘slim pickings’.
Resistance is worth approx $2 and should come in cereal boxes.
MGS4 was good/reasonable but the best part was going back to Shadow Moses…
NFS Shift is just plain dreadful, in fact all the NFS after Underground 2…
I know this because my brother has a PS3]

  4. Darmanos

I’m one of those people too. I won’t buy a PS3 unless GT5 is out. I did the same with GT3 and the PS2.

  5. HachiRoku

Well, I’m part of the 33% 3% of people who plan on purchasing GT5. And I’m hoping that there will be a Bundle release of Gran Turismo 5 + PS3. I’m waiting for that!

  6. Scare360

I’m waiting for GT5 to hit the stores. If it beats Forza 3 in the physics department I will buy a PS3. If it takes much longer I’m afraid many Forza 3 players will skip GT5 and wait for Forza 4. We’ll see.

I rather have Sony/PD take enough time to blow us away with GT5.

  7. FES

Bought my PS3 about 3years ago. Actually bought it to play three pieces: Gran Turismo5, GTA IV and Tekken 6. Two of them I got and finished, GT5P I also did throughout, so now there`s no interest in it. And my PS3 still stands in dust waiting for an hour… I thought I`d play GT5 about a year ago… almost left all hopes already…

  8. novcze

I’m waiting for GT5 because other so-called sim racing games are poorly executed and not enjoyable at all (IMO). Prologue is nice but that’s like methadone for cocaine addict.

It’s scary just to think how many GT fans die until GT5 is finally released, y’know you can have car accident, someone can kill you, catch disease or whatever and never get your hands on the game.

    1. Jordan

@Jilt: No, they originally said it was 39%, but 33% was the actual number, as they state at the beginning of the article you cited.

  9. Deathsarthe

I originally bought my PS3 almost specifically for Gran Turismo 5… 2 YEARS AGO.
And PS3 had been on the market 2 years prior to that.
GT4 came out 2 years prior to the PS3’s release.

PS3 has had the lamest games out of all the consoles, not one company has gone out of their way to exploit any of the PS3’s advantages, and for the most part I’m still playing PS2 games – but of course with the exception of my favorites, Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 (doesn’t emulate those games very well at all).

Thank god I can play Gran Turismo 4 just fine on my PS3, because otherwise I would’ve taken my unit back for a full refund knowing that 2 years from then we still don’t have an official release date and all my PS3 will amount to is collect dust and play PS2 games.

BUT I would like to stress that Sony probably wants Polyphony to really show off the PS3’s capabilities and really sell the system which of course would complicate things in R&D and production. Gran Turismo is Playstation’s best selling exclusive title and has always been looked at as being the most advanced game with the most realisitc graphics and gameplay. I think the PS2 really sold itself and Gran Turismo merely fed into that energy. PS3 lacks that energy which makes this situation awkward for both Sony and Polyphony. However, the longer we wait the more we’ll expect out of GT5.

But for now my PS3 has lost its market value and I’ve been fooled in waiting this long… might as well wait it out. I guess C5 Corvettes and 2005 Mustang GTs are still fun.

  10. TokyoDrift

If the delay really was due to the hardware shortages and the concernthat they would generate even more demand for hardware by releasing the game, then I’m extremely disappointed in SONY. Makes sense when they mentioned “production issues”, because they never mentioned the production issues were related to GT5.

  11. zevehcj

    @Erik
Finally!! Its just nice to see someone post something else instead of the “since the delays” or “since they delayed it again”. Last time I checked it only been delayed once.

  12. Hellseek

I bought mine in 2008 for GT5 and the backwards compatibility so i bought GT4 among other PS3 releases. I still wait for GT5 like everyone else.

  13. Ner0_sol03

I actually owned a model of all the ps3 … So that basically counts for 3 ppl that bought a ps3.. Sooo yea…

  14. Afrojoe

CanAm1968… I hear ya my man. I suppose it is frustrating and fun all at the same time…as I do have a life that includes much more than just games. However if someone we knew was talking this much trash about something…no matter what it was we would be expecting a hell of a lot from them….No difference with GT5 and PD. They have made this game sound like the second coming! Again…I have my doubts and hopes all at the same time. Anyways…enough for one day…I’m off to bed. Hope some real news comes in the morning…good thing I don’t hold my breath…

  15. gt5racer4ife

Alrite GT people most of u here r rite that sony needs to tell us that date! im only 13 and ive played gt 2,3,4,5 prologue so ihope to see GT5 before i go

also im not some sorta xbox forza defender cuz that game SUCKS BALLS

  16. Name (not required)

I don’t care what anyone says. I’ll be there in line to buy Gran Turismo on day one. Why do people bitch so much when they know they’ll do the same? I know you’re tired of waiting (BELIEVE ME I KNOW), but GT5 IMHO is designed to be the definitive racer for at least the next 4 years. Let them perfect it like you know they will.

In the meantime, get Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and MGS4. 3 exclusive classic masterpieces RIGHT THERE FOR YA!……………unless you only like racers. Then you just have to suck it up.

  17. LordVonPS3

33% of how many people surveyed?
    That is the question.

No-one asked me to fill in any silly questionnaire, so the numbers are likely to be very limited and cannot hope to be representative. In the USA the PS3 is still several million units behind the XBOX 360, while being about level in the EU. As racing games are very popular in the EU, expect the majority of EU PS3 owners to already be playing GT5P. Would 5+ million XBOX 360 owners in the USA run out and buy GT5 and a PS3 the week or even month it goes on sale? Very unlikely.

  18. RAugie

well, not among that 33%. bought mine in 2006 when all the hype started….. now just play battefield bad co 2 and codmod2

  19. CanAm1968

AfroJoe….you sound like me….getting a ps3 in hopes that it is coming out and then waiting 2.5 years and it STILL isnt out…and then “sleeping with the enemy” by getting a Xbox360 and embarking in a Forza journey in order to get your “fix” for virtual car nirvana. Through all this time that has passed… we are still waiting on a game that still has so much mystery surrounding it…that noone REALLY know if it is going to be released in 2010. Even the man himself…Kaz…who said it could be released anytime…..doesnt know when it is going to be released….so when the creator doesnt know…. nobody really knows. So yes, thats why we are all here..checking this site…everyday….for tidbits…from people who claim to know when it is coming out… its pathetic…comical…and fun. I will be glad when its finally released so I dont have to visit this site for a couple of years, ha!

  20. Stu

‘Not to mention the people that will, and had, get tired of waiting and buying x-box and Forza 3’

I bought a PS3 weeks after the US launch (I’m in the UK), I’ve now sold it on and bought a 360 and Forza 3.

I’ve not been dissapointed so far, in fact I’m no longer eagerly awaiting GT5’s release, at least not until PD actually show something genuinelly new.

  21. Adrian

Why are we all complaining about the release date? There isn’t one, and you can’t expect any real news until June for E3. With that being said, let’s all be quiet and simply accept the fact that Sony is putting profit over the gamer.

  22. Peter

alex is an idiot, youre telling me sony’s 2 consecutive GOTYS arent enough??? god of war 3 isnt enough? uncharted 2 ? all the multiplatform games arent enough? get out of here

  23. Alex

Damn right. Screw PS3. I hate the fact that if I bought one I’d STILL have my PS2 wired up alongside it.

And I HATE today’s generation of gaming ! Games take forever to come out.

MGS4 was absolute garbage. No more stealth, all action, a freakin’ movie.

GT5, the ONLY reason to own a PS3. Sorry Sony, not enough cool games @ all.

  24. Racer28

    @ RACECAR

Its called business to loose money? Because thats what theyll do the longer they delay..less time in the marketplace

  25. viejaloca

    @ caasium_18,

Agreed, I’m glad i’m not the only one who sees past this. Having no news sucks. I could care less about gameplay videos and statistics because all I want to know is the development progress!

  26. Computer engineer

Please guys… admit it. Sony and PS3 missed the train.

Lucky/smart guys are those, who never bought PS3 for GT5. When and if GT5 ever will be launched, it’s already off the pace, and the reason is, that components and capabilities of PS3 are already old. It’s build from components which are nowadays very poor if we compare them to todays high-end.

That’s the reason why PD has such a troubles to get it ready…
they want to get best graphics, best physics, best online, and best features into it… but it’s just impossible to create with such a limited capabilities and difficult platform what PS3 presenting.

That’s why I love PC’s… when you want more power, just sell your few years old GPU and/or CPU, buy newest ones, and you again have high-end gaming machine! I dont remember anymore what components is in PS3, but I saw it mentioned in some forums… I was shocked. ‘Hell no… that kind of old crap! Wow… big probs for GT5P’s graphics, but that processor cant give good physics never ever!!!’

Sorry. It’s just cruel technical paradox.

  27. caasimun_18

i know that…thats why its hilarious….everytime i go on net, am looking on this page for updates…its my freakin home page lmao!! suddenly there was like massive updates from that @ssh*le uploading gt vids…now all of a sudden..NO NEWS. then the most random topic ever shows up…which doesn’t help in anyway!! lol

  28. Afrojoe

Hey…you’re here too caasimun_18….we’re all here for the same reason. A proper car simulation.

  29. caasimun_18

hahaha….lmao u guyz!!! no news for a while and this shows up…its hilarious how we are all included into this hysteria…

  30. Cracknegg

I bought my ps3 back in November 17, 2006 for $600 + tax, so it’s been quite a wait for me. Still, PD does deliver when their games are released (I still play GT4, it’s so much better than anything else out there in this current gen).

  31. speedy_2

I was also one of the ones that bought a PS3 early on thinking GT would be a launch title even. lol. Yeah. . . we see how that went. lol.

  32. icant55

Who ever runs the marketing for this Game is a A$$HOLE !!! ” IF THE GAME IS THAT GREAT IT WILL SELL ITSELF!!!” it doesn’t take a rocket scientist Say that….

  33. Afrojoe

I too bought the original PS3 with the hopes that I’d be playing GT5 that Christmas. 2.5 years later…I’m still waiting. Marketing…or fine tune polishing…whatever it is it’s killing me. For those of us who love cars for the sake of cars…its hard. GT was the first game that allowed us all to enjoy and drive cars that some of us may never afford. So…I bought an XBOX 360 and Forza 2…then I bought 3. Forza is not at the level of GT in terms of graphics and physics but nobody can deny that they have come a far way in a short time when compared to GT. With the amount of time we have been waiting for GT5 we should all be blown away by it….I have my doubts….but I hope…

  34. Mike

    xhris –
Play.com gave a realese date last year to, and said they got it from Sony. So don’t trust them anymore… actualy don’t trust anyone about the realese date, not until you can actually buy the game.

  35. maxpontiac

    Gran Turismo Vet —

No disrespect intended, but if you are a longtime fan of the series, you’ll be getting it day one. As frustrated as I am over lengthy process, Gran Tursimo will get my money. I actually plan on purchasing two copies on launch day.

GT5 represents 200-500 hours of gaming for me, it’s something that will last a few years. No other game, regardless of genre out there does that. I have tried Forza, Shift, and even arcade racers such as Burnout. All of them faded in about a month.

  36. GTracerRens

I don’t exactly know if it’s marketing bij Sony or marketing by Polyphony Digital. Of course PD is waiting for the best moment to release it, but if Sony delays the release of GT5… I don’t think that to be honest. I hope they will show more on the upcoming Gameshows. And I hope they will give us a releasedate or something. I almost forgot about this game. GT5 Prologue is dead as I own every car in the game and some cars more than once… I play DiRT 2 at the moment…. It’s taking too long, they’d show us some more tracks and cars to look forward to the release. We are all stuck with Nordschleife and Tokyo. I want to see new things, no GT4 update or something like that and no camera shit form a demo. I neither want another demo to be released, just the full game! ;’)

  37. Detroitbb

I’m part of the 33% statistic too.

While I don’t like release delays, the longer GT5 takes to come out, the more likely I will have been able to save up enough money to purchase the console.

  38. Gran Turismo Vet

@ maxpontiac. Yup, sad but true, we`re all sheep who`ll buy the game despite it being delayed. I`ll try to buy it used at least becouse, at this point I don`t feel like supporting Sony or PD anymore…

  39. BringIT!

I’m on that 33%, but I will wait until it comes out and play it before I buy both PS3 and GT5… I remember when I jumped the gun and bought a PS2 slim and GT4… and also remember how they ended up in the closet after Forza 1 came out… there, I said it. The last GT to truly immerse me was GT2 (cant forget GT1)… everything after that was never the same… moved to Forza and its becoming the same story… even though I enjoy Forza 3 to death

I just truly want to see GT to emerge from the ashes of what was one of the best racing experiences on console

As for the wait, never even baffled me cuz I already have something(FM3) to pass the time, quite good too despite what the naysayers are saying

  40. maxpontiac

    The power of Gran Tursimo.

It doesn’t matter how many people complain on the internet about the delay, or how long it’s taken between GT4 and GT5.

Plus, if a few sales are missed here and there, it will not matter. Folks will line up in droves to purchase GT5 the world over.

PD knows it. Sony knows it. We all know it.

  41. Viperstrike

I got my ps3 for GT5:Prolouge right after it came out. i wasnt really thinking of gt5 when i got my ps3. but i was thinking it would have been out atleast a year later.

holding gt5 until later this year for money/sales reasons seams like the only logical reason to delay the game. lets just hope they polish the hell out of the game while we wait.

  42. dk9

yes sir my launch edition 60gb console got ylod and im waiting for gt5 ps3 bundle maybe they will drop the price

  43. phil

I have the PS3 retro compatible… Can still play my GT4, played extensively the GT5 prologue but I am really disappointed with their non-releasing date mess around… it is not the first time but I believe the fact they don’t have enough consoles for the sales it will generate is part of the rease and so is the fact that they released major titles that might be an issue for the customers to buy all of them… Everybody here is pretty much sold to it and are hard core fans but i am sure that about 60%-70% of the rest are cusual gamers that can’T really buy everything at the same time… We’ll see what they say at E3… Maybe they’ll have a demo that we can play, not something that is locked after the stupid contest is over ;)

  44. Jono

I don’t have PS3 and I am waiting for GT5 until I get one. I did borrow one a while back, before they first came out and played the GT5 Eiger demo, very impressed. The PS3 is a very impressive machine generally but ultimately just another black box under my telly which is a means to an end. I want to play Gran Turismo, I don’t necessarily want another piece of hardware.

  45. RACECAR

    @Racer28,

You clearly don’t know anything about marketing if that is your thinking. Look at that survey. It pretty much plays right into Sony’s strategy to releasing GT5. This further confirms to them that GT5 is a major system seller (probably more so the Gow Of War III was even though massive amounts of PS3s came flying off the shelves when that came out). So yes, it is for marketing reasons like it or not and unless you have proof otherwise, thats the bottom line. Its called business, deal with it

  46. Newob

I purchased a PS3 two years ago. Before that I had already been waiting for the release of GT5 for a good couple of years. So obviously it have been 4 years now and I still have no idea when this bloody game going to be released…… Waiting and watching leaked videos is like a hell…

  47. Rafy

2 years ago I purchased my console primarily to play GT5 with the supposed release date back then.

Still waiting and I think to this date that should be called GT4.5; because I don’t see weather variation effects; the majority of the new release videos are from the same Tokio R246 track.
It’s just my opinion. Porsche is not included.

  48. Mr.Skyline09

Actually glad GT5 didn’t come out in March because know I can buy the GTA4 DLC this week. Kinda hard for a college student get money for gaming =/.

    on topic
If this is true then Sony better make sure they time the launch right (christmas AMIRITE?).

  49. demonblade

The number of people without PS3 will be growing very soon I suspect. I for one will be selling mine if a ‘guaranteed’ release date isn’t announced at E3 in June. Lets face it, if they don’t announce a release date soon we ain’t seeing GT5 this year!

  50. Shokz

I got my PS3 well over two years ago and I love the thing – when I bought it I wasn’t even thinking of Gran Turismo 5, but now it’s very much on my radar (most anticipated game at the moment) and I hope it at least manages to finally crawl off the starting block some time this year.

I also bought a 360 back in November to try out their exclusives and aside from Halo 3’s multiplayer, PS3 guys are missing pretty much absolutely nothing – and that includes Forza 3. It’s actually a slightly better game than I was expecting, but it just doesn’t feel right – Gran Turismo 5 seems to be shaping up to be far more my kind of racing game.

  51. daus26

I’m aware of OTX research, mainly because I do their surveys almost every night (and get paid a bit too), and they’re pretty reliable, at least if people are honest. I’m not one of the people obviously because I remember putting GT5 as my most anticipated PS3 title and checking the Ps3 as my currently own system.

33% is actually pretty surprising to me, particularly because those people might be following the release date of GT5 really closely. Otherwise, I thought people wouldn’t be aware and buy the console early, like how people do pre-order on the game.

  52. GTracerRens

    @ Speedfreak:

The Momo wheel isn’t very good, and you’d better buy a HD-TV by the time. ;’) I also bought my ps3 for GT5, but I know it’s not there yet and I can live with it because I also play other games. ;) But still, they’d better release it hahah, Don’t want to wait any longer!! :D

  53. speedfreak69

I’m also one of those waiting for GT5 to buy PS3, and a good thing I waited, price is half of what it used to be!;) I hope there’s gonna be a sweet bundle with further discount!:)
btw. Still got SD TV, but on the other hand, I do have a MOMO wheel…

  54. Gulf

“Without a solid release date for the game, though, those consoles could be sitting on the shelf for a while…”

Not to mention the people that will, and had, get tired of waiting and buying x-box and Forza 3

  55. pasigiri

I’ve a PS3 since … very close to it’s launch and a G27 wheel solely for GT5. I’ve played GT5P to death now. GOW3 has kept my interest as of late (man the boss fight with Hades in that game is awesome), but I need that good old fashion slow grind of GT back in my gaming life.

I will admit, I’ve been tempted to pick up a 360 and Forza 3 (among other games), but it’s like settling for less IMHO … paying for less actually because I would have to by the XBox steering wheel.

  56. Bryan

The GT games are the only reason I bought PS1 and PS2.

I don’t yet own a PS3 because Prolouge wasn’t compelling enough to justify the cost of the (then) $600 console.

When GT5 lands, I’ll go out and buy a PS3!

  57. Dan_

Sony, read this please, now we want a blast of info at E3, undoubtly it will help to sell more consoles.

  58. Paulo

I bought the PS3 just before Prologue was released, and I bought it solely for that reason. Soon after my 360 died for the second time, and I ended up using my PS3 more than I thought I would for games like GTA IV, AC II, FIFA 10 and others. Now I guess I’ll use it to play Red Dead until GT5 releases sometime, whenever the hell that is. The funny thing is, since the release of GT4, I bought my first home, got married and had my first son, all while waiting for the release of GT5. Amazing.

  59. Racer28

I cant believe you guys saying its Sony that holds it off, its just stupid!! This game will sell in PS3 entires lifespan, and the longer its out in the market the more it will sell. We are already deep into the PS3 lifespan. Also sitting on a finished product is incredibly stupid in itself, it gives the competitors the chance to catch up and make more money from their products out on the market. GT5 is not being held back for marketing reasons!

  60. Eric

I’m in the stastistic. I’m ready to buy a PS3 for a long time, but I wait for GT5, anyway, during this time, the price drop and the hd spaces growing up =)))

  61. tomivav

I’d be included in those 33% if I haven’t bought it sooner. The only reason I bought PS3 is GT5, but because I bought it earlier I can use the time to play Prologue.

  62. LeStique

    lol @ [UK] ANDYW
that’s exactly what I was thinking of.
I bought my PS3 also last November I think, because I thought GT would be out soon. Thank god I didn’t buy the steering wheel right along with it. Then it would be covered in at least a mile of dust, if not eroded and so disappeared by the day GT comes out. Then I’d have to buy a new one…omg. But honestly…I think it’s more likely that I’ll be already dead or the world stops to exist by that day.
Anyway. Just hoping my children (currently I’m 20) will be able to see the day where it’s actually released…

  63. yorkstar

Well i bought the ps3 like 2 years ago.
I bought it because gta4 came out, i first had the xbox 360 (i know gta4 is also on the xbox).
But i where also looking forward for GT5…

    So I still wait :P.

  64. ozakiito

im afraid what –Erik– is saying is true.. the developers dont owe us shit..
they can release it whenever the game is finished.. they are the only developer striving for perfection in terms of racing games.. and they dont experiment every year with shit titles.. no they release a game that will last for years 5+…

and people stop this nonsense about a ps4 lauching in a few years time.. that simply will not happen.. not when a single developer has managed to delivered a true HD game showcasing the ps3 s unlimited processing power…

    — i wanted to punch the living daylights out of (self proclaimed heipo– no i mean master) Kojima when he said the ps3 had limitations when developing MGS4 (so apparently the genius desided to fill the game with shit storytelling & added shit equivilent to a double dosing of twilight films!!! (&& no i dont eat shit!!!!) )

i mean come on give us a game with 1080p… no one has done that so shut the hell up!!! you douchebags!!!

  65. [UK] ANDYW

That 33% is probably children who have been born, and grown up to the age of playing computer games since GT5 started development. (Ironically this is almost possible)

    Ooooh I’m such a bitch!

I just wish they’d made lobby rooms in GT5:P – that alone would have satisfied many GT fans until the full release…

  66. S3 Racer

@erik: japan didn’t have a real release date if we wanna be tight point. It was “planned” for release, so no actual confirmed fixed release.

  67. Erik

There has been only one delay, and that’s the japanese release. For all other markets there is no delay because they never announced a release date. And they never announced the release date because the game is not finished yet. Quit whining and let them do their job.

  68. DaveTheStalker

This might explain why there was a month or so shortage of PS3’s on shelves leading up to GOW3. GOW3 being a system seller, it would seem stock wad being built back up. There were a few days when people were selling 120GB models for around $500 because Amazon was sold out.

I am in tzhe 33%, too. But if I will not have the money to buy a PS3, I can go to my little brother. He owns one and I can play the game there.

  70. ES242

I´m also in the 33%. The only reason for me to buy a PS3 is GT5, so I´m not interested in other games. I will wait with the purchase until the game is standing in the shops and will buy the game and the console together. In the meantime I will keep playing GT4 on my good old PS2.

  71. iucidium

Well, I’m in the 33%, I own an Xbox – and own the. Rushed game/cash cow known as forza 3. I am patiently waiting for my next fix of GT, last GT game I bought was GT4, I’ve been there since GT1. Could explain the ‘limited availability’ of ps3’s over the next few months, I think sony are gonna make a lot of money…

    PS4 comes out in 2011.

honestly WOW…Where do you live 1995??

Apparently, reading this for months, Sony already has probems with keeping the stocks of ps3 up. So for Gt they better run it up, …
Waiting for E3 to get news

  73. DrTrouserPlank

This pretty much highlights what I’ve said before. This game is being stalled as the promise of it’s release shifts consoles. Once it’s out and people can pick at its faults and realise that it isn’t the second coming of Christ, the power to sell PS3’s because of GT5 will be somewhat diminished.

  74. TEK9[R]

Sony, I tried to told ya’ll! FYI I will be buying a new TV, a 2nd PS3, 2 steering wheels, and a router. GT5 WILL SAVE THE WOLD economy. I hope they bunddle something like that.

  75. mike

And another 1% is stuck at Firmware 3.15 and need to buy a new PS3 if they wanna use Linux/OtherOS and GT5.

  76. Mickstanz

Please just ignore a couple of these comments about the PS4 being out in 2011, its just plain wrong. Thanks

  77. Zuel

WHY WHY WHY I ask, do we need to wait another quarter for GT5? I don’t think they’ll wait for the release of the PS 4 mid year 2011 to release GT5. I can understand them holding off for the sales hike but enough is enough. Sony increased the profit by 150 points this last quarter so Sony and their investors aren’t hurting for cash. I got my check in the bank.

  78. Bakemono858

Well hopefully the game will be released this year as stated by the CEO of Sony I believe. Also E3 is soon and that will be an official confirmation if it will be released in Fall. PS3 sales will shoot through the roof once we get the damn date.

  79. Bpa94

DING EFFING DING SONY!! release the damn game already and you will finally obliterate Microsoft like te ps2!

  80. racingchamp30

Sony needs to give out a release date very soon or at least by the next E3 show in june. Sony will lose ALOT of customers if they keep delaying gran turismo 5.

  81. blackjack

“well i hope when it comes out in australia they bundle it up with a new console because my $1000AUD launch edition died in the arse, got the YLOD while playing prologue.”

I got my 2nd YLOD about a month ago, don’t have the warranty or cash to buy a replacement straight away so I think I’m going to be waiting for a GT5 bundle…

  82. Joshua

I bought a ps3 solely for gt5, but now I have mw2 and uncharted 2 to hold me over. I bought it almost a year ago thinking gt5 would be out for the holiday ’09 season.

  83. Sick

To be honest, I’m tired of waiting, the hype has already worn off, before it would be one of those hyped games, where I’d pay the full £50 for, but now. I’d be happy with Test Drive Unlimited 2, which is apparently going to be released on PS3 around August, I actually believe their release date, Gran turismo follows are “Tradition” to delay the game always. But whatevr which ever one comes first really. 2010 releases: Need for speed, TestDriveUnlimited, Granturismo?

  84. shewi6

well i hope when it comes out in australia they bundle it up with a new console because my $1000AUD launch edition died in the arse, got the YLOD while playing prologue.

  85. Kenryoku!

My household can be included in that statistic. We will have to buy the game, the console, and a new television to hook it up to. We plan to put that expense all on the same purchase, so we are (im)patiently waiting for the game to come out.

The putting off the release of the game strategically to improve quarter numbers is extremely irritating, but highly typical of $ony. I cannot bring myself to blame them in this economy. They need to pad their numbers for their investors as much as possible – it is ALL business. Im just hoping the GT team takes their opportunity to polish GT5 to extreme perfection (assuming the development funds to do so).

  86. nismo

yep im one of those people…

id rather play a less quality forza than play prologue..
(not to mention mw2 for pc) lol

  87. name

And knowing this, they still refuse to release it?

I guess this is why they’ve been in last place for almost 5 years.

  88. lemon6192

this is probably the reason why they’re holding off on a definite release date, trying to find the perfect time to launch. Probably will be Christmas when we see GT5 methinks =]
