Gran Turismo for PlayStation Vita Mentioned in Sony Survey

Gran Turismo Vita June 14th, 2012 by Jordan

A Gran Turismo game has been released for every single piece of PlayStation-branded hardware to date, with the notable exception of Sony’s latest hand-held device, the PlayStation Vita. That may be about to change.

In an official customer survey conducted by Sony, participants are presented with the following, as reported by IGN:

“You told us earlier how interested you would be in buying the PS Vita version of the latest Gran Turismo game. Knowing that you might be able to get a discount on the PS3 version of the game, how interested are you now in the PS Vita version?”

Though it’s not confirmation that a Gran Turismo Vita title is in the works (it’s worth noting there have been no other rumors about a GT title for the platform), this does clearly indicate such a game is on Sony’s radar.

The PlayStation Vita itself has faced an uphill battle since its release, with many high-profile franchises like Gran Turismo conspicuously absent from its content library.

I, for one, would love a GT Vita title. There is no driving/racing sim on portable devices worthy of its name (not even the previous PSP GT, which sucked). If they manage to pull off a GT Vita game, worthy of its title, then it would be filling a gap in the gaming world! I have a CSR Elite wheel setup at home when I play GT5, but I would love to have a game that has realistic physics, good graphics and accurate tracks on the go, for those times when you’re bored and just want a quick automotive fix. I bought Uncharted for the Vita, and since then, haven’t touched the console since. This would definitely make me want to play the Vita again!

The Vita’s only future is with hombrew, which Sony apposes. I consider the device a flop. Why make Gran Turismo for a dying system?

I wrote a long rant about Sony wanting to kill GT5, but I think I will go with this instead:

Sony is forcing PD to make GT on their Vita just becausethe Vita didn’t sell well. Poor PD and GT. :( I hope to hear about GT6.

Not necessarily; we don;t even know if the game exists, and who knows? Maybe PD had a change of heart.

I sincerely hope no time is spent by PD working on a Vita title. Is much rather have more content for GT5 or just let them keep working on GT6. No more handheld titles, PLEASE!

It’s not about US being interested, but SONY being interested, as they are headed towards bankruptcy and need to pull as many rabbits out of hats as they can, and here they are posing like they ‘may’ give us something we ‘might’ be interested in, with a ‘hmmm’ grin on their face, when the reality is that they absolutely cannot afford not to deliver a GT on PSV because it needs all the help it can get.

    Business Face.

That’d be great. I bought my Vita first day used it for the first 2 weeks and now it’s in a drawer gathering dust. It’d give me a reason to use it.

Gran Turismo 5 for PS3 is my favorite game so I was really disappointed about how GT for PSP turned out. It was terrible and all it had was time trials, come on Pholyphony digital. Can GT for psvita really be that much better?

I love my Vita. I thought the PSP was amazing but this is in some ways better than my PS3. I have to admit it is expensive, but if UMVC3 matches were 25cents each, it has paid for it self and them some. Asphalt: Injection works great with the controls of this mobile device. I have no doubt ANY GT would work…mabey even GT5.
The question is how much is your PS3, with you anywhere, truely worth?
Since Vita came out I’ve only PS3 game I’ve liked is GT Academy 2012…smh…please make GTVita! (and put all of the old GTs on PSN!)

    I won’t be able to get “GT Vita” if it’s made; there’s no way I’d have enough for a Vita. Any console I purchase in the near future will be a PS4 or a 360, but I’d fully welcome a “GT Vita”, despite not being able to get it. I kinda agree with this guy;

It would almost feel like a waste of resources for a “GT Vita”; I thought PD would make the biggest games possible on the most powerful machines possible… Though the Vita is pretty dang powerful for a Portable system, but nothing compared to a standard home console.

Everything you wrote is how it is for me. Same goes for PD making the biggest games possible on the most powerful consoles possible. I’m only saying that they should make a GT for the Vita for all the people that do want it. If nobody wanted to play a GT game on a handheld, the number of people who bought GT PSP wouldn’t be as much as it is. Over 3.5 million of them have been sold. Honestly, I thought it was more like 2 million.

You can’t play a game like Gran Turismo on a little handheld device. It’s just not right. Waste of resources for Polyphony. Boo.

I agree. Concentrate on gt6 n ps4….. Most people will buy both I know I would. I rather hear about a new Sony Ericsson with gt5 game in phone with powers of vida vita w/e.

Have you played a game on the Vita? It’s quite capable of re-producing a Gran Turismo game. As an owner of a Vita, and a fan of GT, I’d love to see a version. Hopefully they base it on GT5 and address the most common issues raised by the fans (and critics!) of GT5.

I would buy a PS VITA only if they released a Grand Turismo Game. Until then not buying one. Lol

One thing i can see this being good for with cross play is b-spec mode if they keep it, using the vita as a low power option to control your driver(s), setting up cars and buying and spraying and photomode options (maybe over cloud). That way you could do it while doing something else, leaving ps3 free for another game while the 24r vita race finishes, or in other terms, easy cash too

I love to see a GT Vita Provided they have cars with cockpit views and good Engine Sounds.

Considering all of the cross-play features of the Vita, I wonder if GT5 or 6 could semi-cross-play with “GT Vita”… if “GT Vita” will ever exist… The coming months are getting more interesting…

I’m going to keep my hopes low in order to reduce chances of disappointment.

By the way, I swear PD had stated they had no plans for a GT game on the Vita… Here’s one claim I wouldn’t mind them breaking, much like the “We won’t be upgrading any standard cars to premium”.

    • June 14th, 2012 at 3:53 pm - #
      another_jakhole

They never said they won’t be upgrading standards. This is from the last interview that it was talked about in.

      November 2011
“GTP: There has been much discussion and debate in GTPlanet’s community regarding GT5’s Standard and Premium cars. Could you explain how you came to the decision of which cars would be Premium and which would remain Standard, such as the Bugatti Veyron?

KY: It wasn’t a matter of making a decision, we just didn’t have time to do it! There is still a possibility that some Standard cars may become Premium in the future.

GTP: In an interview last year, you mentioned that some Standard cars may be upgraded to Premium status in the future. Do you still have plans for this, or will GT5’s future DLC focus on adding new car models to the game?

KY: I think that we should focus on adding new cars to the game.”

To reply to the topic at hand :p

I think cross play for this is essential. That’s the first thing I thought about when all the information about the Vita came out. To me, cross play is a must for this.

^ That means GT6 and cross play with GT Vita? :) But yeah, I thought the same as well.

      @another_jakhole:

Well, your statement proves that they went against their own claim; they said they should focus on new cars, but upgraded a standard anyways.

And I actually wasn’t quoting anything, I was just making a point… Sorry, I see now that it looks confusing… :P

    • June 14th, 2012 at 7:59 pm - #
      another_jakhole

Well if anything, I made it confusing, but that’s why I made the second comment.

By upgrading, I figured he meant “improve” like they have been doing without making them DLC and how the Chrysler Prowler is nearly a premium. The fact the the XJR-9 is a historic car and is a Standard kind of makes me re-think it, but then since they’ve improved the standards, it all keeps making me second-guess.

Excuse my stupidity, but whats cross play? Semi cross play?

    • June 15th, 2012 at 4:50 am - #
      Quakebass

^ Some games are compatible with both the PS3 and the Vita, and people on PS3′s can play against people on Vita’s while getting the same experience more-or-less. I’m not sure if “semi-cross-play” even exists – in my eyes it would be like two separate games (sort of) but shared just about all of the same content and features, but only some would be transferable between the two consoles… I really just meant it would be nice to have GT5 or 6 cross-play onto the Vita.

I think this survey hides the upcoming release of GT6 on ps3, a discount is helpful to increase sales of GT6, GT5 don’t require a discount. Let’s see what happens to Gamescom…
