Gran Turismo News Expected from GamesCom Today

gamescom-logoAll eyes of the gaming world are on Cologne, Germany, as Sony holds a massive three-hour long press conference today.  The star of the show is widely rumored to be a new “PS3 Slim”, designed to replace the PlayStation 3 at a lower price point to drive sales.  However, three hours is a terribly long time to talk about just one new device, and we’ve heard that Gran Turismo 5 news will also be coming out of the show.  Nothing is guaranteed, however, and it would be wise to not expect too much to be revealed about GT5 before GT PSP hits store shelves on October 1st.  With that said, it would certainly be a great opportunity for Sony to reveal another trailer for the game while committing to solid a release date.

Sony’s conference begins today, August 18, 2009 at 6:00 PM in Cologne, Germany, 5:00 PM in London, and 12:00 PM in New York (click here to find out what time this will be in your area).  The GTPlanet News Blog will be updated immediately if/when Gran Turismo information is announced. Keep an eye on the clock, and your finger on that GTPlanet bookmark (we’ll be posting live updates on Twitter and Facebook, too)!

    @ Kazunori Yummy muchi –

Kinda stupid coming on a GT site and telling everyone to forget GT5!!

And where is your knowledge that forza 3 is better coming from as neither game has been released yet!! Though I’m assuming that automatically know it’s better because you’re an xbox fanboi

But if you want my opinion – a plate of vomit has more visual appeal than forza 3!!!

    I thank you.

Just hoping for porsche to be in the game. :)

    Ferrari

Mad Mike is right about the playable version of GT5 at the show so there should defenitly be footage we haven’t seen and there should be a spokesperson possibly at the GT booth answering questions which should be very well chosen words.

I’m sure they will present GT5 in some form – I mean EVERYONE is talking about this. GamesCom could be the moment we have all been waiting 5 years for – if not, then it’s the Tokyo Game Show. Fingers crossed though for GamesCom!”

    Hell yeah! :) :) :) :) :)

@ Mad Mike: Your not as mad as you claim yourself to be!!!

” According to Japanese magazine Express, Polyphony Digital’s PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 5 will be playable at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. The article is mostly about Gran Turismo on PSP, but a small box features Gran Turismo 5, titled “PS3 GT5 Playable,” and reads: “GT5 will be playable at Gamescom and next will be at Tokyo Game Show.” Though we’d like to take this as a rumour for now, Sony is expected to announce a release date for the game later today during their conference. The appearance of a playable GT5 has been confirmed by a YouTube walkthrough of GamesCom’s show floor by Brian Crecente of Kotaku – you’ll spot a load of GT5 demo pods at 1.30 minutes:”

Guys I’ve just read a news on N4G and they says that probably will be a playable version of GT5!!! Hope they right.Only few hours left and we’ll see

Sorry for my gramma & Greetings from Polish fan of GT

I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I see all I want is a release date, something to circle on a calendar whether it were in 2009 or 10′. A trailer or pics or even, dare I say it, INFO would be nice but that might be asking for to much at the moment, or is it?

The PS3 Slim will be announced along with the fact that GT5 will be a launch title – release date September 25th 2009. That is my (very crazy and overly optimistic) prediction…

    From wikipeadia: Notable
    Exhibitors: 2009
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have announced a press conference on Tuesday 18 August. Their lineup includes highly acclaimed exclusives Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War III, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, GRAN TURISMO 5 and MAG. Along with announcements for applications such as PlayStation Home, VidZone and the PlayStation Store. They are also showing the new PSP Go hardware along with its new catalogue of games.

I know its wikipeadia but I’ll take anything at this point.

  14. Turboteam

Hmmm, maybe tamagochi is gonna tell us that there is à delay… Its not the 1st time… Ill Hope for better news but there is no thrust in PD annymore…

  15. Joost

I woudn’t be suprised if there isn’t any GT news to push the PSPGO sales.

If they announce the release date today (assuming it’s nov/dec), maybe less people will buy GT for the PSP because they’ll only have to wait for 2 more months.

So I woudn’t be suprised if Sony doesn’t want any GT5 announcement.

  16. aleksandar

I would like to see Mclaren F1 LM or GTR a”m big fan off this car!!! AND GIVE AS RELEASE DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Wakenabeb

Just wondering why gtplanet didn’t bother reporting about the official unveiling of the g27. After all the rumours that was posted here, the final confirmation has gone without any mention at all.

  18. meemat

i live in sydney, and sonys conference starts at 2:00 AM wed morning. iam gonna wake up for it yESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
and i will be here in GTPLANET for all the updates…

P.S. anyone knows where to watch it. or get instant updates on it besides GTPLANET.

All I’ve ever wanted is a simple WAN/LAN multiplayer setup so I can race my friends on my favourite GT track, sadly I dont have my hopes up at all, but lets see what happens.

It’s really irritating that FM3 seems to have a highly configurable multiplayer mode – as I’m the only one in my group of friends with a 360 & PS3.

In my opinion, Graphics aside, even Forza Motorsport 2’s physics seem superior to GT5p – which is sad.

C’mon ‘The Real Driving Simulator’ give us a release date, and something that proves you’re worth buying over the competition. (It’s TECHNICAL FEATURES – not oodles of pretty content that we want!)

  20. Jack_uk

To be honest I don’t know what more PD could give us, maybe clear up some details? Like if damage will be on road cars etc. Hopefully they can give us a longer trailer featuring some gameplay this time.

  21. NInjaGhost

    Martin….

Yea your right they didn’t promise to us that they were gonna show something but, KY did say that the game is at a point were they could release it at any time…. So I am expecting something atleast…. some features announced, Online, Parts, Something

To me for KY to say that and not show anything later on today would be ludicrous.

P.S. Dont forget he said that they will announced the release date soon, So maybe Today

  22. Martin

Not too psyched for the conference. I will be more than pleased if we just get another tidbit. Like some other exotic car we haven’t seen yet, or a little more detail on damage, maybe how many R34 Skylines we’ll get this time around :) That would please me, but I wouldn’t be angry if we didn’t get anything. It’s not like they’ve come out officially and said that we will.

  23. Annonymous

After listening to beyond (IGN podcast…. BEYYYYYOND) they reckon that even though the conference room has been booked out for 3 hours, the conference will only go for about an hour and a half, with the other hour and a half for sign in, and getting people sorted out before hand, and then general milling around after the conference.

  24. Jordan

Don’t let me be a buzzkill, Bodman, but this might be a bit more like “Thanksgiving Dinner” than Christmas morning! It’s like one of those holidays that was always great, but really just gets you thinking about all those presents right around the corner… ;)

  25. DaveTheStalker

I can’t believe it’s not live on G4. Isn’t that supposed to be THE video game network?! poppy-cock!

  26. Bodman

Being from the U.S and in the central time zone, I will feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Will wake up around 11…maybe 12 and go right for the GT5 news, hoping for a nice surprise.
