Join an Online, GT5 Nurburgring 24-Hour Race in February 2012

One of the most ambitious online races ever organized is currently taking shape right here in GTPlanet’s forums. It’s a 24-hour, online endurance challenge at the famed Nurburgring, complete with every possible real-world challenge, including tire wear, fuel-consumption, damage, weather, and time change.

15 teams of 3 to 4 (local) team members will compete in real-time during the event, which will be streamed live February 25-26, 2012, here on GTPlanet. The event currently has over $100 in prizes up for grabs, including GTPlanet Premium subscriptions, trophies, merchandise, and more.

As event organizer Kurt forewarns, this competition isn’t for casual fans, and will challenge participants in many unique ways compared to other online events. If you think you have what it takes and would like to join or organize a local team, head over the official forum topic and review the official rules and schedule.

Good luck to all the entrants! For the rest of you, stay tuned for more event details as February draws near.

This looks so amazing, and I am so jealous I am not taking part. With regards to the fools moaning about lack of prizes, are they mad, I would pay to take part in this.

    Have a great race.

  2. Mikey006

I’m entering this race (im not the casual fan) with a few others, but only problem is the Internet cutting out! How about if it done it to us like 3/4 of the way through!

  3. marktyper

WAHHH DAMN IT!!! I know I’m good enough to compete in this competition cause I know and I’m confident that I got what it takes BUT BUT BUT 15 teams were now registered which means no teams could no longer be accepted…. :( But goodluck for the participants for February then!

  4. starbutt033

hate to say it but if peeps drop out of race they should get put n a block list.or..bettr yet.5matte or chrome deposit paints woulld be a good start as a deterant

“How is that awesome?? It only has $100 worth of stuff.”

I’m not looking at it like a payday. I could care less about the money. I’ve been envolved in racing long enough to know that no aspect of racing pays as well as everyone thinks. It costs big bucks to campeign a car. Ask anyone who races competatively. You need to have steady income in order to race. If you think your gonna’ make money from racing alone your smokin’ some good stuff or dreaming.
So this is why I could care less about the $. Racing has put some money in my pocket, but it’s cost way more than I’ve made doing it. And I’ve been racing super stocks for 20+yrs.

someone connection is going to act up and get signed out. I can got a feeling its going to happen. unless everyone got a conection that never gets sign out at all.

  9. erik1127

This is off subjet, but cannot find a answer. Anyone notice when playing online car mileage and horsepower has not been
    changing lately?

  10. Mohamu

It will be a real blow when the participants will have disconnections after each other.. You can bet I’ll watch and record it ;)

  11. Yokumaru

The Most racers on this site are quiet fair. but Internet connection will be an isue i suggest to make the race in 4 parts.

  12. granddriver

Good luck with that. PSN & GT need to up their servers so it would be more stable. To many connection issues for that long of a race. Plus the fact of finding 60+ clean drivers.

I don’t mean to come off negative, it just I’ve got 1000’s of hours online in GT5 and good drivers are hard to find. I’ve only found a little more than a hundred drivers who treat it like it’s real, have patience, and don’t have connection issues.

I love GT5 more than any other game, it’s the poop. So please don’t think I’m a hater. Just my opinion on the subject. Good luck though, if all goes well it will be epic!!

    1. GT5_Honda_Guy

You say no to 60+ clean drivers. Then you say you have found more than 100 on your own??? I think there are plenty of people out there and GTPlanet has the means to find them.

Oh yeah, -1 for using epic

  13. j8mie

There are four things that concern me.

    1. As much as I love the idea, I think it would have been better to start with a shorter endurance race. Maybe a 6 hour round Spa, just to get the organisers eye in, as there is always the unknown. Then try this ambitious 24hr race.

    2. We can’t trust the PSN to be that reliable for that length of time. How pissed will you be if it dies with an hour to go.

    3. How can you trust another team to only have 3 drivers?

    4. Why do we need to have FarceBook accounts???? When will people learn that most of us don’t want to use that site.

Despite all that, I really hope this event goes off without a hitch and all those involved have a wonderful time. Good luck to those who take part.

    1. ANFD

FaceBook account requirement ??? You’ve gotta be kidding me … now it sounds more like a simple FaceBook recruitment scam to me

    2. KurtKrDu

      Thanks for voicing them!!

      1. You may be right…..but I think we’re doing the best we can. We are a crew thinking of as many details as possible. I’ve run with tunerspit.com so know about the challenges of well organized and clean online racing. Not easy, but possible.

      2. Don’t really care. Positions are noted every 10 mins and we’ll sne dout a new room for everyone and regroup like a full lap yellow flag. Rolling start after the double hairpin…should be fine.

      3. You can’t, I can’t enforce it. Truth is, most people are pretty keen on making it real and all sign up’s so far aren’t even 4 people including manager. So hey even if they are 30 people, doesn’t necessarily make them faster.

      4. Create a new account with a dedicated email address if you want. It’s for the fans and camaraderie, something usually missing in online racing.

      Hope this helps.

  14. jammed79

OK….why is almost everyone talking about that they would race the 24 hour event if it wasnt for there internet going out…seems too me if you can afford a ps3 and there games. you should be able to afford good internet….if not whats the use of playing the system….get with the program people stop being cheap!!!!!tell your moms and dads u want better internet..lol

    1. XXI

I think many of those replies with bad internet may be from areas of the world that just don’t offer it yet. There are still areas of the U.S. that don’t have 20MB down, 10MB up speeds. I don’t think it’s a matter of being cheap, just getting the best service your area has to offer.

    2. GT5_Honda_Guy

Another un-educated comment. I’m an adult, pay $89 per month for something like 50mb with Cox Com in Scottsdale, AZ and still get dropped from GT5 rooms. Would never join this race for that one reason…

    3. ANFD

I’m in that situation … there is only 1 provider in my area and I am paying for their premium package (highest speed etc.). The problem is simply that I am about 70 miles from the Atlanta server and as such my bandwidth is just too narrow to be confident with it. Your insinuation that because we own a PS3 and the game, that we are somehow “too cheap” to afford a good connection only points out how ignorant you are of the technology.

    1. NJ72

you realise that it’ll be the nurb 24hr layout? the one with the GP circuit attached. if you can run that in 6 minutes, when it is limited to 305BHP i will be seriously surprised. or in awe. depending on how much rubbish i think you’re talking

    2. recca

under 6 mins?? that’s like 30secs faster than me and i know the ring pretty damn well, hard pressed to believe you can do that without adding anymore upgrades to the car and driving it stock..

  15. gt5racer2468

I already have a beast team of 4 of the best racers and tuners including me. We can go around the nurburgring in less than 6 seconds in the 11′ gtr race car shown in the pic ^

    1. XXI

Come down to Florida. I’m setting up a team as there appears to still be room. I need one more clean driver that knows the ring well. Team_XXI.

  16. XXI

Thank the gods of virtual tire wear. I will definitely be entering the event. I’ve been waiting for a serious race like this.

  17. Skython11

It would have been cool to enter that, I’ve always wanted to, but no! There is pretty much no one local who plays GT5 and if there is anyone I doubt they’d be able to drive or preserve the car.

  18. Nicky_loves_GT5

THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR XD but i belive here in Nicaragua im the only one who plays GT5 jajaja.

  19. XRFalcon

I couldn’t do anything like this but it sounds really exciting. Guess I’ll watch all the excitement from the stream then. The question is, will there be commentary during the race?

    1. SY

yes!!! i was hoping there would be someone in Vancouver. add me, psn: SY619. il be active since tuesday night. i have exams till then. i shouldn’t be here either…lol

  20. marktyper

WOW!!! This is perfect!!! I’ll be finish in Highschool by end of January!!! :D I guess this is a perfect time before starting a stressful college life!!! But HOW!? Is it open? WHere? Online events like seasonal events? HOW!?? :) I want to join.. I need to refresh my nerves since I took almost 2 months of break now and active in Battlefield 3.

  21. FroMann

I would really love to this with some friends, but knowing my connection. It would disconnect me sooner or later.

  22. Mac K

I’d would love to do this, but I sadly don’t have the time.. Best of luck to everyone racing and props to the organisers.

  23. Elitekilla29

I would like to enter this. Most days my connection is great, then its those days when it just want to keep signing me out. I would probaly just watch on that day on gtp. Also good luck to who ever is entering.

    1. mcfizzle

The teams will be local, so 3-4 people will be together in a room swtiching as often as they like at pitstops.

  24. TokoTurismo

I thought that picture was real for a moment there, damn GT5 is looking real. Anyway about the 24 hour online event, I sure can’t to see it live. It’s gonna be crazy and wild in there.

  25. Overdrive003

I would join but AT&T hates me anytime more then two devices are on the internet. And having three computers…Yeh I’d probably lose connection in the first two laps. Damn, I would love to participate.

    1. KurtKrDu

I would suggest having only 1 computer on livestream and 1 PS3 connected as per the Rules and Regulations (found in official thread) and run the PS3 speed test. You might be surprised?

    1. Deathbyrotor

I might be able to join, I’m in washington just dont know if I’ll have those days off. I’ll let u know tho

  26. KingOfSpades007

Sounds like an amazing feat to undertake. I hope there will be an upgraded server to host. Im sure many fans and racers alike would be a little upset if the lobby crashes partway through. I hope a spectator mode will be offered or a live stream with a good commentator? Good luck to those involved in the race. Have fun and hope all goes well. I hope to see more events, possibly a LeMans offered up later on too?

    1. KurtKrDu

Yeah if lobby crashes, we’ll consider it a full course yellow and re-grid the cars in oder to ‘green flag the cars after the ‘esses’.

The livestream will primarily be for the race managers to get their info on competitor splits, but everyone is welcome to watch the map. and see what’s going on… Most interesting will be the hourly race updates will be written in the GTP Blog, so stay tuned!!

  27. mcfizzle

This is awesome! I wish I knew enough people to run a team. Anyone in Western Wisconsin/Iowa/Minnesota want to team up?

    1. m8h3r

I’ve just had to scroll up and take a real hard look and I still cant tell it’s GT5, only thing that gives it away is the GT logo top right.

  28. WanderingSoul

Hell yes. I don’t think I could survive a 24 hr endurance race with college reaching the last semester, but you can bet I’ll watch the stream. Good luck to all the lucky participants on race day. :)

  29. RegalFunk

This is on my birthday! So much for doing anything else that day then, I’ll be glued to the stream.

Good luck to all those who enter, I’m sure it’ll be a great event.

  30. smilerftm

This would be quality but as a nurse I don’t have a clue what my shifts are until a month or so beforehand and I could very easily be working on one or both of those days.

    1. Tvensky

I trust my connection 100%, I dont trust GT conection :( it just get problems every 2 hours, and still got too many freezes in online lobby menu :(

    2. turbolefty78

I too don’t trust it, I get far far too many “server boots” online to even think about entering this. Just the other day I got booted from a mere 33 lapper around Indy.

    1. Tvensky

100$ for 24 hours of job/fun playing your favorite game.. and earn money for it… I think its ok for the start, I it will draw attention to GT fans I think the prize bar will and should rise!

    2. maxpontiac

      07_HSV_GTS –

Well, since you seem to believe the prize is lacking thereof, why not donate some of your excess money to the cause?
