2012 Nürburgring 24 Hours, Live Coverage & Video Streams

As reported yesterday, the 40th Nürburgring 24 Hours gets underway at 16:00 CEST (14:00 GMT) today, with the Team GT Academy car 47th on the 171-car grid – and first in the SP8T class.

Having set a fastest lap time of 8’59.695 in the two qualifying sessions earlier in the week the team, consisting of Gran Turismo founder Kazunori Yamauchi, Yasukichi Yamamoto of Opera Performance, Tobias Schulze from Schulze Motorsports and GT Academy’s first winner Lucas Ordoñez, seek to match the class winning, 36th position result of last year. With the #123 GT Academy GT-R being a notably quicker car than 2011’s Schulze Motorsports GT-R, the 134 lap distance set by Yamauchi, Yamamoto and Schulze looks to be beaten too.

GTPlanet users might also like to keep an eye out for the SP7 class #54 Porsche 911, driven by fellow GTP member Christhedude. This team qualified in 34th position with an 8’43.999 lap in the “Top 40” third qualifying session late yesterday. Chris – Christoper Zöchling – is a Nürburgring veteran, having driven in the VLN endurance series since 2010.

The race starts at 14:00 UTC/GMT (convert to your local time here). Head on over to our forums too, to participate in the race weekend discussion thread.

Meanwhile, Jann Mardenborough has also been racing at the Nürburgring, in the British GT Championship support races. As announced yesterday, Jann qualified on pole position for Race 3 of the series and showed his mettle by building a significant lead in his stint – pulling an 11 second gap – before the mandatory pitstop. However a pitlane infringement, specifically a stop that was 0.5s faster than the minimum permitted time, saw his teammate Alex Buncombe have to serve a penalty. The lead was lost, but Alex brought the car home in 3rd place.

Race 4 followed at 08.00GMT this morning, this time seeing Jann take over the driving in 10th place before carving through the field to finish 5th – a superb pair of results for the car’s third ever event and Jann’s first visit to the circuit!

Too bad the SLS and Z4 aren’t race modifiable in GT5. I tuned them to the max and they are really fun. The Z4 handles like a dream even with all the hp.

  2. Foxiol

What a finish!!!ahahah omg. Team GT academy ended 32 overall 4 places better than the last year if i am not mistaken! Last year was 36 overall. Great work finishing the 24h Nürburgring!!

And the end with the Mercedes Benz Hankock and the Porsche Manthey was amazing…the Porsche literally died in the last 100 meters and the Mercedes Benz passed it in the finish line ended 3rd!

The other MB Hankock died at 14 minutes before the race ended running 3rd too and they were so pissed.

Great job for Audi 1st and 2nd winning for the first time.

And again great job for Kaz, Lucas Schulze and Yamamoto. Very nice and clean race this year. Amazing race! Love the Nürburgring!!!

  3. NJ72

pardon me for being a bit blunt, but is a class victory not that hard if there are only 2 cars in your class? :S

    1. Foxiol

You my friend, have no clue in what a 24h race means…it is not to win in your class the best achieve that you can have…you have to finish the race and they did it. That is the important thing here. And 32 position overall is quite amazing and have in mind that there are other more than 160 cars in that race and official teams as Audi, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes Benz.

Foxiol, while you are almost completely right with your statement, it doesn’t even slightly answer or even touch the previous question. The news feed is always talking about the team being class victor. So why not reacting to it with hanging a lampshade? Following your statement, the news writer doesn’t seem to have a clue in what a 24h race means as well, since he is mentioning the class victory really often. Also, NJ72 probably wasn’t connecting the statement to an overall statement about GT Academy or even any team’s accomplishment in a 24h race. That’s simply jumping to conclusions. I myself was thinking alike. It is ridiculous to mention the class leading all the time with just two cars in it (the other being the only other GT-R in the whole starting grid).

They did a great job finishing the 24h again. That alone is awesome. The improved result (30th btw) is just the topping on the cake.

    3. NJ72

@foxiol, please see sirius’ post, I know the point of the 24h races. Dont assume I’m an a** just because there are a rather large number of them which frequent these forums.

I am not taking anything away from what the team did, it is a fantastic achievement, but the point I was trying to make is, why bother focussing on a class victory? If kaz’s team was the only one in it’s class they could claim a class victory but that, in itself, would be useless and irrelevant.

and iLex, i see what you did there! lol

  4. Foxiol

Team GT Academy is 36 overall same result as last year race! By now! 4hs till the end more or less.

    1. DannyJigg

Lucas has been really supportive of GTPlanet in both of the interviews I have heard. It’s looking like its going to be a close finish overall.

  5. Foxiol

Team GT Academy 5:25 hs to the end current position overall is 38º and 1st in class 20 laps above the other car. (the other Nissan had problems, only 2 cars at their class SP 8T).

And Christhedude GTP member, his team is running 28 overall with a Porsche.

    1. crcn11

The same as everyone else, the rubbish one where all the camera men are currently asleep. If you wanna see what’s going on around the track, just check out the Scooby video feed and watch the on board footage.

  6. biftizmo

I wanna watch these dudes speeding round my Nürburgring in real time replay mode..and I would be checking out there Data…is it still going on? whats going on? who’s were? wot?.

    1. crcn11

It’s still going on. #123 (Kaz) is doing well, in the lead in their class last time I heard. Lucas will be in the car now.

  7. crcn11

Aw yeah I was retweeted by Radio Le Mans… now 6 and a half thousand people have easy access to my stupid tweets. :D

  8. zodicus

i was watching the subaru just now and with all the great nosies that little car made one thing was missing. The ear splitting annoying shreak of the transmission. Take note PD.

  9. recca

does anyone know what that “i heart logo” ad is…you see when they do in-car cam and it’s on the right side of teh dash…i see it on a lot of race cars but never found out what it really was..

    1. slick1ru2

I see that on DTM cars. I think its a German company that sponsors the race, not sure what its called though.

    1. grog

Radio Le Mans doesn’t have video, but they seem to be watching the Audi TV [SportAuto.de Livestream (Audi’s Feed)]
just mute the audio and listen Radio Le Mans.

  10. KYD302

Subaru should let me drive for them i’d drive for free even lets say in the 24hours of Daytona that would be a great experience i hope the Subaru team finishes well i miss my 08 Subaru sometimes but i love my Mustang more

  11. JackC8

Thanks for those links, I’m watching the Audi feed. It’s all in German, but I did recognize the words “Playstation” and “Kazanore Yamauchi”. Very cool that all the cars have “Gran Turismo” across the top of the windshield.

    1. Jordan

Mute the video’s audio, then load up the Radio Le Mans feed in English at the same time. They’re watching the same video feed and their commentary matches up perfectly.

  12. slick1ru2

If you hear they mention Slick on Radio Le Man, they are answering my questions posted on their forum. They monitor their Twitter feed too for questions. Great guys!

  13. slick1ru2

You can stream on the PS3, the audi link, using the web browser. It won’t work on the Ustream feeds. The Subaru UStream did have some in car footage for awhile. Now, back to the garage.

  14. Foxiol

The ADAC 24hs transmission with Radio Nürburgring is amazing. I don´t understand German at all lol but it is quite entertaining having some commentary and interviews (i understand some words haha) and then some music.

Yeah Toko is quite nice and what about the blue AUDI PSVita R8 LMS car!!! I want it now!! Kaz give us that blue metallic colour for our GT-R and all cars from the 24h!!!

    1. Foxiol

Pos. 0045 overall N123 Team GT Academy SP 8T Yamauchi, Ordonez, Schulze, Yamamoto

You can see it in the ADAC page where it says “24Hs Rennen”. (below the streaming)

    2. Foxiol

They are 2nd in class. The other car in the same class is the Nissan GT-R (Team Nissan GT-R), the white one, that it is running almost as the stock road car with 4 Japanese pilots.Current 36 overall.

Best lap for Team GT Academy 9:18.388 and for the Team Nissan is 9:16.998.

  15. starbutt033

As I look through the teams and all these awesome cars, I think to myself, how come Kaz doesn’t get some of these RC models on GT5? If we all ruled the world, haha…

    1. crcn11

Well it’s not as easy as just putting them in the game lol. It’d probably take months of negotiations with sponsors alone.

  16. monildan

which link has the commentary in engish?? either they are in german or they just have streaming feeds from the garages of diff teams…

  17. Marky264

Enjoying this! lots of incidents so far punctures etc! Will be a treat to see how our GT Academy boys do! :)

  18. McKiernan

Lovin this so far, I never had a chance to watch with the live stream & commentary from RadioLeMans :) I only did the time trial yesterday, might have to give it another go later.

  19. DonZonda

In germany it’s going to be broadcasted on TV “Sport 1” for everybody who wants to know ;)

    1. crcn11

I watched an english stream last year, I think it was british Europsport. But it was only foor the second half of the race. I’m watching the German one now and it’s fine lol you can still tell what’s happening.

    1. slick1ru2

FREE!! Join their forum and Hindy will answer your questions, usually, on the air. Great people at Radio Le Man!

  20. Malc01

Hi all – were the British GT Championship support races run on the 24h track or just the GP one?
