Have you ever heard a thing called a rivalry game? Apparently not. OU-OSU is a big rival nowadays. In years past, it was not so much so because OU always blew out OSU. But since Les Miles has been the head coach at OSU, OSU has become a much better and consistent team. Obviously you know nothing about OSU and how badly they want to beat OU every year. OU is OSU's one team they always want to beat; OU is the one team that is always circled on their schedule.
Let us talk about the rest of OU's schedule. OU went into A&M and won. The win is that much more impressive considering the bad blood between the two teams and the rivalry that has arisen as of late.
Kansas State, an otherwise bad team this year, also played their absolute best game against OU. And what did OU do in that game? They won. Do you have any idea how pumped K-State gets to play OU? Apparently not. Did you see last years game? That is just one example of how big of a game OU is to K-State. This year was the same way, except with OU winning.
Now we can talk about Texas. Let's look at Texas's score for that game. What was it again? Zero! A shutout against one of the Top 5 teams in the nation; that is pretty freakin' impressive for any team.
Now let's talk about more of OU's schedule. Specifically non-conference. OU played Bowling Green, Houston, and Oregon. Granted, Houston is a crap team, but Bowling Green and Oregon are solid teams year in and year out. They are not necessarily great teams, but they are not pushovers like Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana Tech, not too mention Division II-A's The Citadel. It does not say much when your premier non-conference game is LaTech or you have a Division II-A team on your schedule.
Both Bowling Green and Oregon played two of their best games of the year. I cannot say if they were their best played games, but they were very solid games for the two teams.
If you say the only team OU has played this year is Texas, then who has Auburn played that is so great? The Citadel? What a joke there! LSU? Not that great of a year for them and really an off year for them, at least compared to last year. Tennessee is not a very good team at all, I mean they lost to Notre Dame at home and they barely beat Kentucky (Kentucky is terrible). The Georgia win was nothing impressive, as Georgia is the most overrated team this year. If Alabama had played any offense at all, then that game would have been much closer than 21-13.
So you blame all of it on the preseason polls? Maybe Auburn should have played better last year so they would not have been so low in the polls. Not only that, but maybe Auburn should have had a more convincing SEC Championship win against a not-so-great Tennessee team.
