Well I wonder what happened to that attitude when he got passed by Hamilton into turn 1 :p

He didn't fight that position too hard - he might have gotten surprised? but that Mclaren is 20mph quicker in a straight line.

If I recall properly, the McLaren was on fresher tires... Kobayashi was trying to preserve a set of hards for a late race change (he pitted around the same time as Button). That late change was also why he had the grip to overtake like crazy... but that hairpin move was simply inspired.

If he does win the WDC, he'll have a lot to prove next season. All of the excuses of him being too young, etc... simply won't fly anymore.

All your complaints are valid. And this is true... if he does win WDC, he'll have a lot to prove next season... but then again, winning the WDC might just make him more mature as a driver...

Go Kubica! 👍
Spoke too soon!

Oh well, congratulations to Red Bull for a 1-2 finish, even if I wanted Webber to win. ;) BTW, does Hamilton have to change his gearbox again for the next race, incurring another penalty?

Yep, another gearbox change and grid penalty for the next race (unless they somehow manage to quick fix it, which I highly doubt (his whole 3rd gear was dead)).

Anybody else notice that it looked like Kobayashi still had a Prime LR tyre after he pitted?

Although the green stripe may have rubbed off form the contact with Alguesruari.

Sureboss......did you transfer some monies to Mr Kobayashi? :p

Awesome race, gutted for McLaren, Hamilton and Button as it appears to be a serious hill to climb for the championship now (funny how its swapped so much since Canada).
Excellent drives from everyone that finished really bar Alguesuari.

Finally a good race for Schumacher, finally beating Rosberg on outright pace. Serious bad luck for Kubica and Rosberg. Petrov and Massa not doing anything to help their careers.

I'm still shocked at what happened to Di Grassi, what an utterly random event!

It very could boost his racecraft maturity, and in all honesty (despite my wanting Webber to take home a WDC) if he were to win the title this season I'd hope it would do just that. On the other hand, and this is precisely where my skepticism and rebuttal of him becoming a WDC comes in, what if the title does nothing but inflate his ego? What if it does nothing more then assert the supposed fact that his pace is the sole reason he won in the first place? When pressure is placed on him, and it's going to be considering he would now be a WDC and would have to defend that title, he'll have to put with pressure, tenfold...

...The outcome?

Much of the exact same pressure-laden mistakes he's already been making. That's going to make it seem like his relation to the WDC is nothing more then a fluke. The only way he'd be able to successfully defend and maintain that title is to qualify (and finish) first in every single event.

Far-fetched? Considerably. It's merely to illustrate my point/concern further.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was Kobayashi involved in all of the overtaking moves?

Damn near. From what I can recall right now, only two overtakes (that didn't occur during another drivers pit-in) weren't his own and those belonged to Heikki and Jarno.

:D

Although it is a short run from Degner 2, it's all about rhythm in the esses and Degner, Kobayashi was very good at this. Impressive race from him again, if the team strategy was better, maybe he could've competed with Schumi.

Di Grassi, it just looked like an amateur over correction to the back kicking out on the marbles. Can't be many who have DNF'd on the lap to the grid, particularly if it's confirmed it wasn't mechanical issue.

I enjoyed the race, gutted for Kubica though and I think Hamilton had some really crap luck with the new gearbox.

Barring the start-line overtakes:
Schumacher on Barrichello
Trulli on Yamamoto
Button on Hamilton

Only Schumacher's was due to his own handy work. Kobayashi created all of his overtakes except on Heidfeld.

It's not F1, but warm-up lap crashes? I've seen worse.

I actually missed this F1 one today, what happened? I came into the room and saw footage of a wrecked car, and initially thought it was a practice replay or something.

But Di Grassi's wasn't on the warm-up lap, it was on the lap to the grid (the lap coming straight out of the pit lane to prepare for the race), no one is pushing hard or warming tyres or anything - only simple system checks and checking the track.
Both of those videos are of formation/warm up lap incidents.

Also - crashing at 130R is always worse than anywhere else except maybe Eau Rouge/Radillion or Blanchimont.

Its thought he had a suspension failure, it did seem very strange and I don't believe Di Grassi made a driving mistake. I mean, he would have to be monumentally stupid to push it on the lap to the grid in a car that isn't the best!

Two drivers who have generally been overlooked are Yamamoto and Heidfeld. Yamamoto kept Glock behind him for ages and was a few seconds ahead of Senna for half of the race although I'm not sure what happened after that because he lost a few laps...?

Heidfeld did a great job as well almost getting into Q3 then having a strong race pace to finish 8th although I think this could have been 7th if he wasn't teammates with Koba. Also he's almost got as many points as PDLR after just two races in a car which he's only driven for two weeks!

Kobayashi had yet another stunning race! I think all but 4 overtakes were from Kamui.
I believe Kamui has what it takes to earn a seat in a top team in the near future.
You've gotta believe that if he got to Schumacher he would've passed him quite easily too.
Good race for Heidfeld too, he's almost scored the same amount of points as Pedro did in just 2 races!
(Sorry for the Sauber bias & lateness of this, I just woke up after watching this morning & Williams only had an average showing, Shame about Hulkenberg getting taken out by Petrov)

Except Yamamoto was so far in front of Senna because he didn't pit during the safety car. Once he pitted, he fell way back. Senna struggled to catch up thanks to all the blue flags (which subsequently screwed Glock and Yamamoto later on from catching the Lotii).
He did well to hold Glock behind him though, but then again its not exactly the easiest track to overtake on if you aren't Kobayashi. Trulli only got past Yamamoto because he made a mistake.

Does anyone notice and know why Alonso wore a black band on his right arm?

I will always remember when montoya spun on the warm up lap of melbourn.
The BBC did themselves no favours eather this weekend with the amount of technical issues.

I agree, the coverage was all over the place and when I tuned in to see qualifying yesterday afternoon there was no explanation by the BBC as to why it wasn't on. Then the actual qualifying happened early this morning and again it wasnt updated / listed on the web or anything. Then the race replay at 1pm was chopped up.

However Lee Mckenzie was an excellent host, gosh I would love for them to get rid of Jake and put her in permanently. She is so much more personable and professional and she doesnt hold a stupid iPad all the time for no reason! What she does normally is just a waste of talent.

Good race though.

Robin.
