I really want to watch this race but there are soooooooo many commercial interruptions, commentary sidebars it's way too irritating. It's an advertising nightmare.

I'd like to see Scheckter take it as well. 👍

Wow that was close...whew!

schekter is out.

they are stacking commercials so that the last 25 are commercial free

7 caution periods have happened so far in this race with the longest Green Flag sint lasting 19 laps. I wouldn't mind seeing them going green until the end if the race here. :)

Also, Tomas Scheckter has just retired from the race with a broken drive shaft. Ed Carpenter leads the race after 157 laps.

From IRL Timing and Scoring:
Lap 168: Yellow for contact in Turn 3 by #23 Milka Duno.
Not much in the way of contact from what I saw on the replay. Buddy Lazier was close to her on her right and she went into the grass on the inside causing her to spin out.
EDIT: Danica Patrick and Ryan Briscoe touch rear wheels coming off pit road on Lap 171. Ouch.:ouch:

Now she's making her way towards his pit box.:scared:

After 175 laps...
  1. Scott Dixon
  2. Vitor Meira
  3. Helio Castroneves

I was just thinking that, too. This is a terrible broadcast. I think the race is in there somewhere.

Side note: can we stop the post-incident interviews in motorsports?

Slightly-attractive, but mostly-ditzy pit reporter: "What happened?"
Annoyed driver: "I got up into the marbles, and hit the wall."
Pit reporter: "Any warning?"
Annoyed driver: "No."
Pit reporter: "Are you disappointed?"
Annoyed driver: "No, I was hoping I would crash today." (walks away)
Pit reporter: "Well, it looked like a pretty big hit, but I'm happy to report that so-and-so is okay."

Very insightful stuff. Meanwhile, 10 laps have gone by that we didn't see.

The Andretti curse needs to work it's magic
Why do you say that? Whats wrong with Marco?

Edit: Congrats to Dixon for winning the indy 500 and congrats to Chip Ganassi. First the Rolex 24 and now the Indy 500.

Unofficial Top 3 of the 92nd Indianapolis 500
  1. Scott Dixon
  2. Vitor Meira
  3. Marco Andretti

Im happy for Scott Dixon, not one person deserved that race more than him and he will hopefully win the championship from here.

Danica.....well what can i say, she had every right to be a raging bull. That was an incredibly stupid way to leave pit lane. Im on her side of this one.

Notice how we have yet to see Ryan's comments.'

Vitor Meira, he has a way of getting to the front but doesn't have that the car to win, still good drive, this will show good for him in joining the big 3.

Marco, the incident with TK was a shame but his job as a race driver is to move on and go for the win. That one pitstop really hurt him.

Time for FACT OR FICTION. Feel free to prognosticate!

1.) Danica Patrick will finish at least 5th.

2.) Both Sarah Fisher and Milka Duno will finish regardless of final classification.

3.) Ryan Hunter-Reay will finish no higher than 15th (finish of 15th or worse).

4.) At least two Brazilians will finish in the Top 5.

5.) Marco Andretti will not finish.

6.) Of the ex-Champ Car stars, Will Power will finish highest.

7.) Hideki Mutoh will finish.

8.) The highest-ranked South American will be Tony Kannan.

9.) Graham Rahal will finish higher than A.J. Foyt IV

10.) Helio Castroneves will lead at least three laps.

The race is Sunday. Have at this!
1. Nope. And she's not happy.

2. Nope. Unfortunately, both were gone.

3. How dare you not have faith in our howntown driver!:scared: He finished 5th:sly:

4. Only Helio would finish.

5. He finished 3rd. I still fail to see whats wrong with Marco.

6. Oriol Servia finished better.

7. He does indeed in a very strong 7th.

8. It wasn't not meant to be unfortunatly

9. Actually, it finishes the other way.

10. Not sure if he did.

And Motominded, Meira drives for Panther Racing and Mutoh drives for AGR

Congrats to Dixon excellent race. Also congrats to Vitor Miera for 2nd place.I wonder if toruble is brewing at Andretti Green? I heard Ryan Briscoe's comments and he tried deflect blame from himself which I thought was not right.

Scott Goodyear and Eddie Cheever are terrible. I mean monumentally bad. Please silence their mics for the rest of the race.
I never missed Paul Page so much as I did today. Brent Musberger is good, but he just seem out of place in auto racing, so they used him mostly for before and after a commercial break. It could have been a lot worse, they could have had Ralph Shaheen...

Danica looked pissed off after she was accidentally taken out! He look on the IRL official was classic when her bodyguard jumped the pit wall after her...he took one look at him, and waved him through.

Best line of the race: "Alex Lloyd took out the pit lane speed checker, the other drivers will like that."

Best line of the race: "Alex Lloyd took out the pit lane speed checker, the other drivers will like that."

I personally liked the remark about it being cheaper in a videogame, after the Wii Fit sponsored car crashed.

I caught up with the race around Lap 80. I tried to wake up earlier, but failed to.

Ninety-two drivers, and not one of them will be a lady. Danica DNF'ed for the first time at Indy. As the saying goes, there's a first time for everything. Danica has been on somewhat of a roll since her first win ever at Motegi. And I hate to say this about my favorite driver right now, but this is two straight DNF's.

Although I'm a bit sick of the song, this is really the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. This and Le Mans. Scott Dixon managed to get it done. The New Zealander (or Kiwi?) came to Indy and got himself some milk. Something I always wonder just for fun... what if a driver won the Indianapolis 500... and was lactose intolerant or something? What would that winning driver drink? Orange juice? Some of that Lactaid milk? Just for fun.

This is the race you want to win if you're part of "May Madness." Scott Dixon will be the defending champ for the 93rd edition in May 2009. Next stop for the Indy boys and girls will be in the state Danica Patrick was born- the Milwaukee Mile out in Wisconsin. One driver tasted the Indy milk while someone's going to get themselves a win in Dairy Country.

Yes it really makes me appreciate Hobbs, Varsha and Windsor doing F1 on SPEED. Bob Varsha did the CART announcing back in the 90's and did an excellent job of it. I really should have tuned in the Radio, they cover so much more of the action.

Paul Page was only so-so for me. Probably because when compared to Varsha he seemd lousy. I watched the 1991 Indy on ESPN Classic the other day and they had Sam Posey and Bobby Unser along with a forgettable ABC commentator. Sam was so excessively wordy and Bobby Unser was only slightly less annoying than Darrel Waltrip. Derek Daly spent a few annoying years in the commentary booth too

Emmo refused the Milk in winners circle on his second win!

I noticed that Dixon was being reffered to as "The Iceman". I Hadn't Heard that nickname for him before. Good win for him, he worked hard for it.

Danica had a very frustrating race. They spent the first 2/3 of the race trying to work out the understeer and stay on the lead lap. Then, when they started to get it going fast, Briscoe's crewman clears him to go. He swings out too far as his car fishtailed and collected her just like that. People may give her crap about getting pissed, but half of the drivers in the field would have been the same way. I think she needs to sock a cameraman real soon. They cut her no slack at all. Did you see them all chasing her like mad paparazzi?

Quite a few drivers knocked themselves out just by hitting the marbles on the high side.

Bummer for Sarah and T.K. Sarah had already gotten back one of the laps she'd lost in her earlier spin.

Why do you say that? Whats wrong with Marco?

Marco Andretti is another racecar driver who got into the top ranks of the sport through his last name.

Others have done this, Ralf Schumacher, Bruno Senna, Kyle Busch, the Earnhardt brothers, the list goes on and on.

And as you know, some who got an easy ticket into motorsports either turn out to be a great talent like Earnhardt Jr/Kyle Busch or they turn out to be just so-so like Marco Andretti or not very good like Kerry Earnhardt.

It makes me wonder if racing is a natural gift or if it can be learned. I'm starting to think your name, money, etc has more to do with getting into racing then just raw talent.

Someone like Marco Andretti was given top equipment for all his racing life by his father. Michael and Mario also gave him valuable advice about racing. He made it into Indy cars quite easily by having the best equipment and team and last year was the 3rd best driver on Michael's 4 car team.

Now Marco Andretti appears to me, even from a television camera to be pompous and arrogant. Maybe because he thinks he's greater because he is an Andretti? As I've said he hasn't earned anything like his Grandfather Mario. I've read the story of Mario and he had to fight to just race any car. His story was long and full of pot holes and struggles.

Marco Andretti's story is silky smooth and easy. He doesn't appear to be thankful for the easy route he has taken into motorsports. There are whispers that he isn't very good with fans despite the fact they are the ones that make it possible to do what he does.

And in the end Marco is just a good driver, not a great one.

The way he took his teammate Tony out was disgusting. Then he ruined Sarah's Fisher's race and probably any hope of her running again this year. Then he literally whined about the incident on the radio.

He can earn alot of respect by helping her get to Kentucky or whatever race she said she wanted to get to, but he won't.

It's really bad when so-so drivers who didn't earn their way into racing have arrogant macho attitudes.

Look at Danica Patrick, she got an Indy car ride because she could draw sponsors and fans, but look at her emotion during her first win and the emotion she shows on the track.

Now look at Marco Andretti after his first win. His attitude was like "This is the first of many because I'm an Andretti"

And after an incident or whatever he is like "bummer"

That's how some who never had to work hard for what they do turn out.

That's why I didn't want him to win this year's Indy 500. Half the field deserved it more then him, including all his teammates.

Good post. I agree with you but I will say this in Marco's defense he's still young so cut him a little bit of slack. But I do agree his excuse for running into Kanaan was sorry and he should know better. You forgot one person who belongs on the list of drivers from famous families Kyle Petty.

Look at Danica Patrick, she got an Indy car ride because she could draw sponsors and fans

From Wikipedia
Patrick earned a second-place finish in England's extremely competitive Formula Ford Festival, the highest-ever finish by either a woman or an American in the event. ... During her time in Atlantics, she won one pole and was a consistent podium finisher.

That's how she got an Indycar Ride. Consistient performance is what keeps her in a good ride. She's become very saleable to sponsors since her first performance at Indy, and like it or not, her other antics such as commercials, TV, and the SI swimsuit appearances don't hurt. Who wouldn't jump through hoops and sell their soul for a professional racing carreer? I'd do whatever it takes. Bottom line here. Show 99.9% of Americans portraits of all the current Indycar drivers and a quarter of them might be able to pick out Danica and Helio. More people in this country recognise Helio from Dancing With the Stars than as a racer.

We Met Helio at the autograph session at Watkins Glen last year. He seems just like that smiley happy guy you see on TV.

Marco... Hmmm.. I haven't decided how I feel about him yet. I was awful jealous of Michael Andretti on his way up. I liked him at the top of his carreer. He blew his shot at F1 with his own arrogance. I watched him turn into a WhineTit on the way down. Marco seems a little more humble than Michael.

It makes me wonder if racing is a natural gift or if it can be learned. I'm starting to think your name, money, etc has more to do with getting into racing then just raw talent.

I'd tell ANY aspiring professional racer to pursue skills in in business and promotion. Money has everything to do with it. Racing is a business. Look how Nascrap has changed in the past 30, 20, 10 years. That's ONLY about the "France Family Money Machine" now. How many times have you watched one of your favorite drivers or teams fade from existence because they couldn't keep the sponsorship money coming?

I believe racing can be learned. Name any World Champion of the last 2 decades and believe me, there was always money behind them.

Graham Rahal. Love that Kid! Yes, There's a bit of Money behind him, too.
