Some epic battles tonight with Owens, Carracer, Ncemt, Sagar and others. Looks like GP/F is going to be tough to pass on and rewards consistency above all. In a couple of the 4 lap sprints, NCemt and I went into the final corner parallel two races in a row, exited pretty much side by side and I won one of the drag races by .017 while NCemt won the other by half a car length. Great fun and really looking forward to the races!!

I know we had a couple of races that were very close, the first one you were on the inside going into the last corner, and I slowed and tried to get a good drive diving back underneath you, (didnt work), the second time I stayed on the outside (did work) and got great drive to the stripe. This track always produces great racing, makes you have to set your passes up sometimes 3 or 4 corners before. Patience is a virtue here, more so than other tracks.

The title says the next race is 8PM EST?
Is the 9:00pm GMT time still going?

I had fun in last nights practice race.

^ Sorry, I'm not used to having the GMT race yet. :dopey: Fixed. 👍

Sorry my bad...lol. Should have sad Bdub not NCemt. So many close battles last night I got everyone confused..:nervous:

So my splits when just jotlapping last night in our room

S1 on pace, usually quicker (I know wtf?)
S2 back about 1/4 second
S3 1/4 to a half
at the finish line 5 seconds down?!?!!

I seriously don't understand how I lose so much time there.

So after the flat out left right (Schumacher-S) we go up the hill the a tightish left (Kumho-Kurve), exit 65-70 then the awkward right hander kills me (Bit-Kurve) and it leads to the easy Hatzenbects-Bogen and tight chicane (Veedol).

Someone want to talk me through the entry-apex-exit speeds there and a picture of a good line, because it is killing my laps.

Thanks.

Yeah, found some monitors with ~7.5mm bezel width. Just one costs like 3 moderately-thick ones, which one can apparently de-bezel. Seems just like what I'm gonna do ;)

Lol, sorry about that. Fast lap for a while was from my race with DS3, where I completely bypassed the chicane. I was bored and too far behind anyway ;)
If recall correctly I was doing mid-17s in some past practices though.

From distant memory:
Rule #1: follow parts of tarmac where there's more rubber stuck to surface. It has more grip.

Turn one - in quali the faster way through there for me is to take it in a slide. Not dropping below 40mph.

Turn two: do not go too wide, layered rubber on the track starts in the middle, go too wide and you'll miss it. Ease off the gas, hold >65mph, floor it when you're past the part where blacker payment is closest to the curve.

Turn three: again follow black stuff, late apex, maybe cut a bit on the (very worn already) grass. >47mph. End really close to the curb for better set-up for next corner. If set-up right - no lifting necessary for corner 4. In race take a tighter line for corner 3.

Turn four: lift a bit if not set-up right.

Turn five: brake gently, but not before the cones on the right. Lots of grip on black part of track. You can carry lots of speed. Like >80mph. A bit risky for race though.

Turn six: brake and turn early. If you do that you'll stay on the rubbered part of the track and have higher entrance speed. For a hot-lap try to keep it over 57mph.

Hairpin: again, follow black stuff. If done right/lucky - you can take it at ~60mph all the way. Otherwise try to keep it >55.

Schumacher-S: flat-out.

Kumho-Kurve: Again, black stuff. Brake at the beginning of it, cut the curb, don't drop below 69-70mph.

Bit-Kurve: I don't think I was braking for this. Just ease of throttle, turn in early. If I'm close to the inside I floor it @74mph. If sliding too wide- wait.

Chicane: take it @ ~50mph.

Last turn: in quali brake late, I usually slide a bit to scrub-off speed, late apex, don't drop below 57mph. In race: brake earlier and take a tighter line. Otherwise some might think that the faster line is an invitation to dive on the inside despite not even being on your rear bumper.

To start with - take off 2-3mph off these speeds and work up from there.

Bit-Kurve, just tap the brakes VERY lightly to turn the nose in.
Aim for the grip line (dark rubber on the track).
When on the grip line, full throttle.

The trick to taking the chicane is braking really late. Just at or at tiny bit after the second to last marker is the best breaking point. Then you want to down-shift smoothly. This car seems to be really easily unbalanced because of a messed up downshifts.
Brake right up until your front tires are on top of the first rumble strip. Once the rear tires are about on top of or dropping off of the rumble strip, full throttle, and keep it tight on exit.
The last corner is still a bit of a mystery for me. I'm not sure which is faster. This is what I'm doing right now.
Drive in really deep, hit the brakes, hard, keep it wide, and as you fade off the brakes, full throttle while turning in. Seems to keep the car stable and gets a good exit. I'm thinking there could be a faster exit, by braking differently - I'm not sure.

Are you online now?

You were giggling like a school girl after that incident, which I found funnier than the incident itself!

I was having similar problems before you blew the last sector though. Would be .5-.6 seconds down through all sectors and then suddenly be down 2.5 seconds at the line. I'm doing something horribly wrong in the final sector but it all feels fine to me and not sure how I can gain much time.

I tried about 4 different lines through the final turn last night and no matter what I tried I was always at 94-95mph at the line even though some lines "felt" faster than others. That final turn has a big impact on the whole lap as it dictates your speed at the end of the front stretch. More practice required, for sure.

Only cause I imagined your faces streching in "Whaaaaaat???". :sly:

There are some pretty sweet setups in here. I've tried out TrackBound's setup before. I did really like it, other than the fact that he's a bit taller than me so the pedals were a little hard for me to reach. If I had the room, I probably would've built something just like it. Unfortunately, we have a small condo and a baby, so there's no room for a permanent setup. Here's a picture of my current setup. The chair is kind of like a bean bag chair, but it's filled with memory foam instead of those styrofoam beans. I'm still tweaking the stand a bit, so I haven't glued everything together and painted it yet. The stand is collapsible, so I can fold it up and slide it under the couch, while the wheel and pedals go under the end table. It takes less than a minute to set up or put away.

If I could nominate you for "best avatar on GTP", I would! :)

Hahaha that was with my old Logitech Driving Force Wireless wheel. I have to get some pictures of him on the new setup, sometimes he actually grabs the shifter like he's trying to shift.

Thank you for the tips dsgerbc & carracerptp, much appreciated 👍

@carracerptp I'm at work sadly. I won't make it to tonight's race, the little lady likes to stay up past 8 and as driver congestion for these races is becoming an issue I'll use the time to practice.

I did find a nice line through the final turn, but it was more feel, I kind of brake and turn late hug the inside for a little then almost steer by just accelerating and letting the car push out to the curp (or slide if I get it wrong)

I didn't know the rubber actually did anything physically! I thought it was just tract texture and a clue to the racing line.

Yep, I thought so too until an alien speed guy was wasting me more than normal using the dark part of the track. Then I tested, sure thing, more grip.

I noticed this for the first time last night too. I don't know if it's fairly new or if I've just been spending too much time OFF of the driving line. :dunce: But it was very noticeable last night, when I was on the black part of the track I had tons of grip but offline I had a lot less grip. Can't believe I've never noticed this before.

It's always been implemented, just seems so "Sim Like" I only tried it in GT5 recently.

^^^

Seems like this track is the only place that there is a noticeable different in grip between the rubber in the racing line and the rest of the track. I'd never noticed a difference before last night either.

Ok guys, it's race night! I've been so busy today I almost forgot.

We're going to try letting people just run in one of the two races tonight, not both, to see if this helps with the crowding. My main objective is to make sure that the UK drivers can make it into the room since this is the only weekday slot they're able to participate in. But at the same time I don't want to cripple the grid by not allowing enough people in the room.

So, how about we try this: At 15 minutes until qualifying, if there are only 7 or 8 people in the room RDAardvark can announce it in the thread. If anybody wants to hop in the room to fill up the grid they can do so and will still be allowed to run in the late race tonight. I don't have an issue with people running twice in one night, I just want to be sure there's enough room for the people that need to be there. But I also want to make sure they have a decent grid for the race.

The room is still set to allow 14 people to enter but we will only be able to allow 12 to race. If the room exceeds 12 people we will need to ask for a volunteer or two to make room for other drivers. I hate having to do that, but it seems to be the state of GT5 right now so we don't have much choice. This is the simplest solution that doesn't require people to fill out sign up sheets or anything. I hope everybody understands the situation and that there are no hard feelings over having to volunteer to sit one out.

Good luck to all you early racers, and I will see the rest of you later this evening in Deutschland. 👍

^ I'm simply hosting tonight - I may run a few laps in practise, but I'm not racing. So there may be 13 in the lounge, but I'll be in the viewing tower with a guinness.

^^What's the policy on watching the race?

I may not be around for tonight's race so I will be entering in today's and will ask to have this time slot as my primary.

As long as 12 get to race, 2 (RDAardvark + 1) can watch from the lounge. I'd recommend waiting until 9pm GMT before trying to get in the room though, they will be starting qualifying at that time so whoever is in is racing and whoever isn't, isn't.

Sounds good. You're welcome to take part in Friday or Saturday's race this week if you're around. 👍

Maybe make it 5 mins to 9. Qualifying starts at 9 and I'd like to be as prompt as possible.

I'll update this thread at 8:45 GMT

Right, my point was that if somebody wants to watch the race they should wait until qualifying is underway. That way everybody that's going to race is already in the room and on the track and they know they won't be taking up a needed spot. So after 9pm GMT would be the time to try joining if you want to watch from the lounge.

If there is room and somebody wants to join the race (after you announce there is room) they should be there as promptly as possible so they're ready to start qualifying at 9pm GMT sharp. We won't be delaying qualifying so people can jump in at the last minute. 👍

Just as a heads up, I won't be making it this time to race.
I hope there is room for me in the Friday @ 10pm EST race.

Sorry Brandon, I misread your original message. :dunce:
I'll go and sit in the corner.
