Chuk was very very generous with what he did. I admit to cutting corners much more often than I should. It's always an error, but I only truly back off in quali, when there was some blatant time gained or a position gained. Now that reminds me. I watched a replay from Monza and Chuk was on pole for the reverse grid race. He led clean through the first chicane, missed his brake point for the 2nd chicane and cut it badly, but then pulled over and let the entire field pass to pay for the mistake. That's a bit extreme don't you think? What do you guys think would be the correct thing to do in the case as described?
If it were me I'd have lifted to let the 2nd car gain my bumper again eliminating any benefit from my mistake and then kept going. Or maybe let the 2nd car pass me at the extreme. If I did it several times in a race I would expect to get a penalty even if I did let the cars re-catch, but on the first lap on cold tires I would think just slowing to eliminate the advantage would be suffice.
In the second Saturday race at Monza, I was in second place coming into Roggia, right on Hydro's bumper with Yuri not far off in third. I clipped the grass under braking and went over the grass on the left and bypassed the chicane that way. I dared not try to correct anything, I would have spun. Right after that, I pulled over and let Hydro through, but should have I let Yuri through as well (I didn't)? I made a huge mistake but was not punished in terms of positions and the time lost was minimal (which was made up in the draft later in the lap).
