I feel sorry for all of the GT fans who pounced on a pre-order and now have to wait that out in agony, cursing every shipping update that doesn't say "out for delivery" while I (and I'm sure most other users browsing this thread) will have the game in my physical possession tonight at approximately 12:01 :) Thank God I kept my pants on and thought this one out ahead of time!

Hopefully those people know you can cancel pre-orders and get your full money back.
 
Lucky day for me. Called gamestop just a bit ago, and they are having a midnight Release where i preordered a collectors edition. Glad to hear the sales clerk was just as ecstatic as i was!

Pre-ordering is antiquated. What are you getting that other people won't be able to at Wally World at 12:01? A couple of extra cars, that will be DLC in a month or two anyways? YAY. It's already on the disc guys, nothing that special. This made sense years ago when stores sold out of the game, now, not so much.

Which stores are these? Because at least here in the US, I've tried BestBuy, Target, Walmart, Gamespot, and none will sell you the game until tomorrow 10Am. Unless the store opens 24 hrs like Walmart and have it available at 12:01AM tonight midnight.

I have a gamestop pre-order but they won't have a midnight release so I could wait till Wednesday or cancel the pre-order and risk trying to get it at Walmart at midnight. What should I do?????

Don't cancel your pre-order. If you get it at Walmart, just go in to Gamestop the next day and get your money back. I have personally done this before. There was a huge fiasco with the shipment of Gears 2 to Gamestop. Most Gamestops on the east coast did not get the game until the day after release. I picked the game up at Best Buy and got my money back from GS the next day.

Right...but not when EB is the only seller of the CE in Canada...I don't want to pay extra importing fees by buying from Amazon, which means I would have to pay $140 CDN for the CE.

Ah true. I don't go for special editions of games anymore.
 
Called my Walmart and they said it was in stock and pulled a copy for me since I told them I lived an hour away and when I got there they said they couldn't sell it, not exactly empathetic about my 5 minute I mean hour drive either.

Hahaha how many other Walmart's are within an hour of you? I doubt they believed your story. 👍 for effort though! :sly:
 
I pre-ordered my copy online at gamestop's website and have them ship it to my local store. I also ordered another copy from newegg and that has already shipped and looks like I'll be receiving it tomorrow. Is it still possible for me to not pick it up from gamestop if I receive my copy from newegg? Gamestop only charges your card the full amount when you go there to pick the actual game up. Not sure what to do.

Which is why I kept asking around if the NA Standard edition game case = NA Collector's edition game case to see if I can grab a standard copy first and refund my sealed CE game copy when it arrives. As long as it's the same case and sealed, it is definitely do-able. Whether that is ethical, that's another issue.

Seriously, it's hard to hold out when your local EB doesn't even know when their shipment of CE will arrive while the whole world already got the game.

A few, but I doubt it'll be any different. I think the worst part was that the girl actually pulled Grand Theft Auto 4, sad she didn't know her roman numerals by the time she was 30.

This thread shows how desperate we are -of course, from 2 to 5 years waiting- ... we all thought we were "SO STRONG" doing fancy pre-orders thinking that waiting a extra or couple of days could be easy, and now many of us are "THE HELL" to the pre-order and running to our local ghetto Walmart LOL -AT MIDNIGHT- like total dorks to get the most basic GT5 available LOLOLOL

That's why I'm worried about canceling my preorder and going to Walmart cuz it seems everyone is going to Walmart all the sudden, lol. I think I have a solution tho. Keep my preorder and pick it up Wednesday. If I get a copy at Walmart at midnight I'll just return the unopened gamestop copy a few days later.

Why would you pick up the Gamestop copy if you already have the game (presumably from Walmart)? Just go in and ask for your money back.

It's illegal for them to charge you a fee. They must give you your full money back if you request it.

They cannot charge you a fee. It is no different from returning an unused game. Trust me, I have done this before and I'm sure many others have on here as well. Don't worry about cancelling your pre-order at this point. If you get the game at Walmart, just bring your pre-order receipt to Gamestop the next day and say you want to cancel your pre-order and get a refund. In my experience, they don't even ask why, they just process it for you. If they ask why, just tell them you got it at a midnight launch or tell them you got it as a gift from someone, if you like. It really doesn't matter, they have to give you your money back.

My midnight walmart purchase depends on my CE shipment from GameStops website. If it will not get to me tomorrow, then I am buying a regular edition tonight at midnight to hold me over until whenever my CE gets here. Then a co-worker is going to buy the regular edition off of me, so I hardly lose any money.
 
There are 3 local gamestop's in my area, not sure if they are doing midnight releases. I guess I'll have to wait like the common folk for it tomorrow.

Seems rather odd. If they can't get it to you when it releases I wonder if they even will have it in the store. Hope so for your sake
 
Just called my Walmart. They'll have GT5 at midnight. I hate Walmart a lot, but I guess it's worth it just this once.

I tried to hit this with both barrels by ordering both the standard from GameStop & CE edition from Amazon, Just in case the CE did'nt get to my door step in time, I know that standard would keep me going.
 
I'm hoping that my local small independent game shop (GamePlay in LA) will have GT5 today. They were the only shop who had F1 2010 on release day and no one else knew about the game.

I absolutely hate Walmart and refuse to buy from them. I can wait until 10am tomorrow.
