Theres better for less. Dad wanted to try one that for 4k first they started in spec miatas, then Z06s and then you got to do a star mazda for your SCCA licenses.

Skip Barber won't teach you anything different unless you're just after racing. Braking, cornering, overtakes, etc., etc. are going to be the same between both programs as are the classes.
They're going to cost roughly the same amount as well if you want Skip Barber to teach you to drive cars on the SLS' level.
A while ago guys at work got to go to a V8 track day, but sadly I was not able to go (no free spots) but they spent a whole day driving a decently quick car around a track with slicks on etc.
But to go to a properly organised one like that!!! dream come true.
