A very good article came out on IGN regarding GT5:

snippety

Link? A surprisingly good article, for IGN. Still just "playing the popularity game", of course, and really underplays the fact that updates are still due this month and next.

The nail was firmly struck upon the head, however:
IGN
It's as if either Sony doesn't want to compete with Forza 4, or it feels it doesn't have to.

Indeed, maybe GT really doesn't have to compete (directly) with Forza, or any other game, at all.
If everyone's copying everyone else, where is the real innovation to come from? There'd eventually be no difference between the two series, and where would that leave the potential for progress? Even Forza 4 apes NFS in some ways...
We don't need the racing game equivalent of the wayward Call of Duty.

Polyphony are arrogant. Ya, it may be on a different console, but still, when you spent five years doing nothing but making weld marks no one will ever see, and fall short of almost everything you promised, and the new kid on the block comes back for a 4th time to slap you in the face, you know you failed miserably.

Dont get me wrong, it's still a great sim at the core, however, that's all it is. A virtual show room with your usual racing events. While Forza is a virtual show room with a variety of different and racing events, and customization so deep that you cant deny that the grass hasn't look more greener on the other side.

I've pre ordered Forza 4 ( just as I have every GT game ), and the "ultimate" versions when available.

I enjoy both games. Each brand brings something good to the table and since I don't work for nor or am I being compensated by either brand - there is no reason to be a "fanboy" or either.

I just play the games. Now I must note that I got bored with GT5 back in February after I finished the career mode and had 20mil in credits. I didn't want to buy another RX-7 or Nissan. That lead to my not being interested in the Seasonal events because I had nothing to gain besides "winning". DLC prizes or easter egg cars would be more interesting than just more credits.

BTW I hate the fact that I can't save my tuning profiles in-game. 👎

Again both games are good. I'll revisit GT5 when they provide some cool updates. I'll also play Forza 4 as long as it stays interesting.

After the "Dark souls is better than Skyrim"article,IGN has stooped another low in
their flamebait and opinion forming agenda.

Getting back into GT5, I am disappointed, though not surprised that there hasn't been any real game changing updates..

They make some good points but they present the situation as like GT5 is beaten down and F4 is going to walk all over it's corpse.I would say the sales suggest otherwise.
Just look at their pictures comments "sigh".They are selling to much F4 hype.

Well many on here speculated that PD might announce something at TGS.

I personally never thought they would.
I suppose IGN though they might too.

Because some of the article is still subjective.

This is the best line from the article, and should provide perspective on both sides of the coin.

"It's doubtful Polyphony could've worked harder, but they probably could've worked smarter. "

Understanding is the key.

Sales mean nothing. Sales aren't gonna add anything new to GT5.

"Sales mean nothing", you really believe that? I would think the better sales a game has the more inclined the developer will be to support its game.

I know they do mean something. As in "hey it sells, so why change it?". They support the game, but not the gamer's interests. Either that, or PD really sucks at evolving and getting with the times, and no amount of money is gonna make them realize that. Or worse, they're just holding things back on purpose to promise 50 features in GT6 and only delivery 10% of it.

But they do change it they have been for the past year and have promised continued support so sales in this case is good thing. And you can't really speak of the interests of the 6+ million of bought it.

Ya, but it seems like PD is missing the whole picture. We dont care about racing helmets or suits. Where's the stuff on the package? Your telling me putting stuff like matchmaking cant be done within a year?

Anyway, what exactly did they change on the top gear test track in the last update?

You act like you have some authority to speak for the rest of us, what you have listed that you want not everyone else will agree on, and come on now matchmaking really?

which is exactly what I've been saying all along, PD have made some really quite stupid design decisions...and if it's Kaz's personal vision then his vision is going awry.

That's the problem "unfinished projects". GTHD and GT vision were ps2 engine ported titles that were in development but those got cancelled which was a waste of time and a poor decision. With GT5, they created a new engine that's compatible to write on the spe's which takes time to learn. Your developers have to re-write, re-think, and re-learn for the cell which takes time. That's probably why we didn't see lots original features that we've seen from GT4. If it weren't for GTHD and GT vision, it would be more of a finished product than what GT5 came out to be. That's just my speculation.

Matchmaking is perfect for a racer. But I guess your right, it wont work for GT5. If GT5 can keep track of every player's stats, skills, and overall driving habits, then it can match him with similar drivers. Instead of browsing around for that one perfect server. We can have both features. But I prefer being matched with others on my level if that was ever possible.

With the general lack of quality in every sense in every single post you make, double posts, wild conspiracy theories of payoffs and American bias, complete lack of any grammer or punctuation whatsoever, I'm amazed you're allowed to continue to post.

And you're so different?

tsk tsk, why so sad? you're now questioning how come i am allowed to post?
poor fellow.

And yeah there is an american gaming review bias. Go and check out ign today itself. And yes forza paid top gear. You dont think andy wilman and jeremy clarkson are doing all these stuff for free now do you?

The good news in all this though......It makes not an iota of difference to where both series stand. One is Mount Wycheproof, the other is Mt Everest.

and  at IGN. Kaz doesn't give a **** about you or your masters at TURN 10

I prefer servers over matchmaking as you have better control of who you race with and people are less likely to mess around.

That's why it's good to have both. But having stats would fix people messing around. People who mess around, drive like crap and troll servers will never be matched with serious high ranking racers who are high ranking because they don't mess around..

Which can be slightly true, but I take it more as these people at PD still put the hard work in and tried their best to provide a great experience, but in some cases lose in efficiency, which is a given creating for new technology.

I think it will have been a great learning experience for the staff at PD and Kaz in the creation process of this game on a new piece of machinery. And it will only get better.

:)

It's just too bad we have to wait. Just thinking about it makes me feel discouraged from looking forward to it.

Ya, it can only get better. But lets face it, GT5 was what GT4 should have been. It was a change(damage, night and day, weather), and GT6 will be what GT5 should have been.

So not only is GT playing catch up with other racers, it's playing catch up with itself. I was expecting GT5 to seriously come back and take the throne from Forza. I was doubtful until they started showcasing damage, time change and weather. Then I was hyped because I thought GT5 was gonna be revolutionary for the series. But instead it feels like PD just put their feet in the water and didn't really jump in. Now we gotta wait years again for the real definitive GT game, if not definitive racing sim (which is what Forza4 might take). I think after Forza 4, PD will have to bring something new and innovative to the table that no other sim has.

And I love Forza. I enjoyed it. But I played GT since 98, and for that, I dont want to drop it.

I won't be dropping GT5 until GT6 arrives and that is the absolute truth. Long after Im finished with F1 2011, WRC 2 and other games GT5 will still be my racing title of choice. All I need is a Vita version to be announced and Im sorted.

I'm sad to say that I'm really liking the videos for Forza 4. If the game turns out better than GT then maybe I'll transfer.

@GTone23

I'm not going to argue what it shoulda been, because we got what it is due to the restrictions and decisions at hand, and there's no reason to think otherwise. Understanding the game creation process, will help you understand the perspective.

I don't think PD just put their "feet in the water". I'm sure they did the best they can with what they can in what they found important(for better or for worse).

And no reason to speculate on the future as it's not here.
