I'm not going to buy ... just because of GT5

I would have to say I'm skipping all of them. I just bought my ps3 becouse I saw the release date.
It just like when I bought my ps2 when gt3 came out

My decision on what games to buy has nothing to do with GT5. GT5 is just one of the games I plan to buy as soon as released. The others are:

- TDU2 (because I loved TDU);

- NASCAR The Game 2011 (first NASCAR game I'll ever buy and only because it's eutechnyx that makes it)

For the time being, I'll skip F1 2010 (very conflicting reviews so far) and WRC (same)

I guess I'll wait for reviews and opinions on those games.

NFS Hot Pursuit might be an alternative to arcade racing (I don't like the Burnout series), as long as it's not Burnout undercover.

Wish SEGA did another Out Run, or released the DC version of Daytona on PSN. That would be great.

F1 2010, everyone seems to hate it. Sounds like an unfinished game. I might pick it up later, at a bargain bin (lol).

Dirt 3 looks promising, since they're leaning towards classical rally stages.

NASCAR The Game 2011 (first NASCAR game I'll ever buy and only because it's eutechnyx that makes it)
I can't see anybody making a pure NASCAR game exciting and fun - not even PD. Of course, that's just my opinion of the racing sub-genre, just doesn't do anything for me, regardless of technical and photo-realism.

It depends if you are glass half-full or glass half-empty person. There is enough in F1 2010 to satisfy most race game fans, and as most people game for a bit of fun, the odd bug is acceptable and can be fixed. Others take games far too seriously and spend most of their time finding, and stressing over bugs. An average score of around 85% is not achieved by being a sub-par game, but therein lies the issues today - people see scores of less than 9 as not worth bothering with (not saying you in particular, just generally).

Personally, I am leaving it because of GT5, so...bring on F1 2011 ;)

I dont think an unreleased game is going to effect many peoples game purchasing

Yes, I've skipped a lot, Dirt 2, Shift, NFS:Grid, Project Gotham 4, last 2 burnouts. All games I might have bought if I didn't have the blazing image of GT5 in my mind.

Forza 3? Was close to buying it, then I remembered wasting money for the special editions of Forza 1/2, which I never played. I

MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology series
Rallisport challenge series

- were probably the last few racers I really had fun with - wow it's been a while.

I've already bought F1, and I plan to get need for speed, but I can't see either getting much play time for a good year after GT5 comes out.

^ Lol, most of those games came out 2-3 years ago....why would you skip them for GT5 which still hasn't been released yet...

Some of us don't have time in their daily lives to play every game that comes out on a given subject. As much as i like/have liked in the past racing games, i'm quite happy to patiently wait for GT5 before i get my next fix of console racing.

I like to have a good mix of games, so that I don't burn my self out quickly, though I expect when I first get it I will stay up some late nights. :)

Some parts of it are actually very impressive but there are so many problems with it that I just can't be bothered playing it any longer.

I can't decide whether to leave it on the shelf until Codemasters or just trade it for something else at the moment

It is terrible to unleash such a buggy game upon the public. I can't help but think that they minimized their time spent debugging in order to not release a stone's throw away from GT5.

Having bugs removed via downloadable patches, post-release, is marvelous, but I wouldn't feel comfortable buying its successor at release. A bit like Bethesda and their "Game of the Year" editions.

I plan on getting all the listed games except Ferrari Race Experience and WRC. Neither are because of GT5.

Ferrari Race Experience because it just sounds like Ferrari Challenge with a couple things added.

WRC because I played the demo, and it was terrible.

Then this thread/poll proves you wrong I guess, I'm not buying any games since August only because of GT5. Still playing through everything else I have already because I know that I won't touch those games come November.
Most of the people who are financing their gaming hobby by themself should be thinking similar, because we all know that money doesn't grow on trees and time is pretty limited ;)

Definitely.

I do feel that bug fixes are OK for games but this reminds me of NFS Shift in that I can't seem how it was possible that they didn't know about these issues when it was released.

I've said elsewhere that I have visions of a discussion in a Codemasters boardroom about a month before release long these lines...
The Narrator
A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

I accept that a game with a vast open world to explore would can be impossible to test fully due to the vast amount of variables at play but this game is essentially people driving cars around in a circle.

I don't see this as a bugged game, I see it as an unfinished game. Codemasters have had one of the most expensive marketing campaigns ever for this game, it knocked Halo: Reach from the top of the charts which is crazy for a Formula 1 game.

They've spent the money on the game and they've worked out as they were approaching launch that it was more profitable for them to send an unfinished game out rather than hold it back and complete it.

Actually I won't buy any of those because they all have a very limited experience and are botched work for the most part, that's why I download them from the internet until they make something worth paying for, or at least something worth renting.

I'm going to buy GT5 because it is a complete product.

Are you referring to the games in the first post, or some games mentioned in the thread?

Money is made of paper, or am i going daft?

Well, I'm not a fan of NASCAR, don't even know the drivers names apart from Montoya and Danica Patrick ;) but I do remember having great fun with the 80's Indianpolis 500 because of the strategy involved. And, indeed, You must be at the limit in very intense racing for a very long time. If the game recreates this well, I bet I'll have great fun with it.

PS - I love Watkins Glen, be it in GP Legends, GTR Evo or even NASCAR :D

I have the glass half-full with a pristine copy of F1:CE that I barely had time to play with since I bought it last year. People I trust tell me that if I want to have a go at F1 gaming I'd better start with that one, because 2010 isn't THAT better. So, I'll pass for the time being.

I fear you are right that they didn't want their game to clash with GT5 so they released it in a hurry. I have read that Codemasters shipped 2 million copies of F1 2010 which they expected to sell. I imagine this expectation would be a lot harder to meet if people had access to GT5. Their openminded interaction with the people who bought the game also indicate that the customers are in fact the testers. It's kind of sad but I won't mind if a patch can fix the major issues. But even though GT5 includes a F1 car or more, it will probably not satisfy F1 fans so I think they could still cash in on the game if they took their time to finish it. A december release would probably have been the best for F1 2010 and Codemasters reputation.

Agree with NIELSEN, the fact that GT5 only "touches" racing disciplines (WRC, F1, NASCAR, LE MANS) but does not make a full virtual recreation of them makes GT5 complementary to the more "specialized games", and not their rival.

I read Nielsen's post just after reading a lengthy interview by a eutechnyx developer about their NASCAR game and he says exactly that:

VG247: Do you consider GT5’s NASCAR component to be competitive to your game?

Dave Thompson: Believe it or not, I actually think that GT5’s offering will actually be complimentary to our own as it gives gamers an introductory taste to the world of NASCAR.
I am a fan of the GT franchise, but we have to make very clear what GT5 has and how it differs from NASCAR The Game 2011. We believe that Sony has licensed a small selection of cars & tracks from the world of NASCAR and these cars & tracks exist solely within Gran Turismo’s standard game world.
We also believe that there are no NASCAR rule sets, point systems, Sprint Cup Series, spotters, bump drafting, crew chiefs, driver personalities or extreme damage in GT5. Crucially though, there isn’t the 43 cars that create the unique bump and grind of pack racing that personifies NASCAR.
We are hopeful that the lite version of NASCAR in GT5 will allow a wider worldwide audience to experience NASCAR first hand and leave them wanting a taste of the real full blown sport.

(full interview here: http://www.vg247.com/2010/09/30/interview-eutechnyxs-dave-thompson-on-bringing-nascar-to-the-masses/ )

EDIT: I can only hope the same applies to Le Mans cars. I NEED a 24 Hours of Le Mans sequel, with both the ALMS and the ELMS tracks and cars. And Le Mans, obviously :D

This is not the first time Codemasters are releasing a game with lots of bugs. Last year they put Operation Flashpoint on the market just before CoD (witch was also terrible) and it was terrible. One year later they do the same thing with F1. I have not played F1 myself but it sounds like CM are not that great anymore.

Well, let me know how the future looks in 2011 since you obviously know how Nascar 2011 & Hot Pursuit 2 are already developed as "botched work".

20 years of playing games, believe me I know, those game won't sell more than 1 million copies and 90% of those people will stop playing them within 6 months, and yes they will be botched for the most part, that's how the industry of bad games rolls.

Im a racing fan in general, so I dont plan to skip some of those. In fact even though ive purchased every GT on release day, its one of my least fav of the ones I play on a regular basis. So yes there are some other racing games I have my eye on.

Its a shame and it hurts ! the release date is not to bad but every other good racing game for 2010 comes out just before Christmas how continent ! seriously ive been waiting for GT5 since 2010 almost 4 years ! like everyone else out there were tired and hungry for the best racing game of the decade and to finally see the PS3 perform at its peak and put the £550 you spent on a console to the best !

It will be Epic but just like GT3 the next game after will blow it away. GT6 will be even better and more realistic ,
