Assetto Corsa Console Update 1.14 Thread — Releases May 17

Still hotlapping but AI races will come soonish ;)

The new Porsche 911 RSR 2017 is a sticky beast and the Audi Quattro S1E2 is raw power.

EDIT: just did my first ever custom race. Abarth 595 SS / Highland Long. 7:01 fastest lap and the most boring race and plenty of time to absorb the surroundings. Great fun again!!

finally I can make more usable cockpit views

some cars are glitched though, e.g. BMW M4 does not save exact camera position

Please tell me this isn't a regular day.Drift and cruise lobbies are pretty much only available and you can't create a room? Not a great update so far.

This video contains content from SME, Who has blocked it in your country on copyrights grounds :(
Don't you hate that? Luckily, the VPN service I pay for has hundreds of servers scattered around the globe and I can choose a country to connect to. I didn't get the VPN specifically for getting around those types of problems, of course, but it's a nice added benefit.

Yes buddy, thanks for advising me, although i can still watch the video myself, just some regions it's been blocked?? lol....A pity, miserable people stopping other people's fun....... :nervous:

Suddenly, AC's online rooms turned into those sad, tedious and nearly pathetic rooms in GT6 with ridiculous titles like "chill", "cruising 120km/h", "drive around" and 🤬 like that!
Whatta:censored:???
This people buy a freaking top racing simulator to cruise around???
I know, I know... you can't judge, you have to respect, bla bla bla but seriously??? Even drift shouldn't be there, never mind "cruising around"!!!
What a joke!
In Australia we have a thing called Powercruise and plenty of club days just like it. They are days where you pay to go to a race track and do what you want (within reason), you just cruise around doing laps, burnouts, drifting and impromptu drag races with a whole bunch of like minded people on the track. In Europe they have this track you might have heard about that people pay to drive around, some go fast, some go slow, some go sideways. Why wouldn't people want to recreate that experience in the game. Think about it, if you can't afford to go to Germany but you want to recreate that experience the best you can, how would you do that?

You know one of the coolest things I have seen done with Assetto Corsa on PC was a lobby where people were driving in both directions on a mod track that was some kind of mountain pass. The guy in the video was driving in VR, spirited driving simulating the kind of thing people do in real life except in real life it would be dangerous and irresponsible.

Of course AC isn't just a racing simulator, the creators made it a motor sports simulator, they included drift and drag racing and it has always been a street car heavy game. If it was just a serious racing simulator it would focus on racing cars, it doesn't.

You put your driver's view in the middle of the car?

I'm thinking about it more as my gaming view than my driver's view. I put it in the middle of the windscreen and then play with FOV and front/rear position to get good planted feeling. From my limited testing I've done so far FOV between 40 and 50 works best for me, but it depends on the car.

I think this update has made me realise some things about AC.

After I’d downloaded the update last evening, I took the 991R to Highlands long. Lovely car, OK track. All of my recent game time has been spent in GT3 cars, either running the endless career races, or racing on line. The R/highlands combo made me realise how much more I enjoy road cars for just lapping on my own… I could really feel the weight of the car moving around.

Inspired me to try a few more road cars (lotus Elise/Exige/BMW M1/M4) on street tyres… and being honest, I didn’t get much enjoyment out of them. They all felt a bit flat, a bit dull, a bit understeery (the Elise in particular). What I mean by this is I couldn’t really adjust the cars balance… either I got entry/mid corner understeer I couldn’t adjust by lifting, or I got power oversteer. No real weight shift related handling changes.

I guess this will be controversial/against the common view point, but IMO, whilst GT might have been less ‘sim’, it is more enjoyable to play for normal road cars. Don’t know what GTS is like as I don’t have it, but in GT6 most road cars had that feeling of being on ‘tip toes’ once you got them to the limit… you could play with the balance of the car with the brakes/throttle all the way from entry to apex.

For sure, I prefer AC as a racing game (the race cars feel lovely to drive), but not sure it has longevity for me as a ‘I have a free hour, I’ll just go drive something’ game.

One point on the update… the 991RSR… that thing is a limpet. Once I figure out how to fix the horrendous brake release oversteer, I think this thing is going to be hilariously fast.

It's not the overall grip level... it's the balance of the cars grip front to rear.

I might be able to fix through the settings, but stock, the cars I ran last night had no feeling of rotation in to the corner, or mid corner if I lifted the throttle to shift the weight.

I can feel the balance OK, but I don't think the balance is represented realistically... if that makes sense

Example... Lotus Elise.

IRL, I've driven a few versions of the Elise over the years and they are lovely things to drive... they feel like they are rotating round the drivers seat. Yes, they will understeer if you push the front way too hard on the way in to a corner, but get your entry speed right, load the front and rear tyres equally, and you can trim your line by just easing or increasing the amount of throttle - lift a fraction and the nose tightens, a bit more gas and the car pushes, a lot more gas and the car oversteers.

In fast corners, you have to be super careful on turn in as they will snap oversteer massively if you turn in too hard off the throttle (rear unweighted).

In AC, on street tyres, the Elise just understeers... even if you give it a massive 'bung' on entry. With the nose locked, you can just step off the gas with zero risk of the back coming round, and you can jump on the gas with zero risk of oversteer. It's as if the rotation point is positioned directly over the rear wheels, making it impossible to load the front tyres properly.

This is true for all the Elise/Exige versions I've tried so far.

They should feel more like the Porsche 718... which is just sublime.
This will probably sound like a stupid question, but I'm surprised everyone keeps going on about surface grip or tyres whilst ignoring the elephant in the room:

You did switch of TC no? I remember that used to totally kill the handling of road cars, and from what I've been reading it seems you might have it on or on factory settings.

ps. Gents new TT is online, Mazda 787B @ Highlands, check the link in my sig ;)

Only time I run anything on factory is when it's forced on line.

When running just by myself, I have TC on in the options by default, and I manually switch it off.

In any case, TC only affects traction under power, not the balance of the car under lateral load when off the throttle.

I remember lift off oversteer being an issue with TC on too, so that's why I asked. In any case it's good to mention it again as many people might not be aware and subsequently complain that the road cars are all bland/ understeering pigs.

I'll try the Elise myself this week, see what gives.

Yes misterdog, in the road cars TC is a no no, i never use it, as you can see in my videos.....It helps to get rid of that understeer, and get the rear end twerking lol! ;)

SME? Oh, Sony Music Entertainment.

Region locked internet. :/

I sometimes get it trying to view certain clips from America.

Though you really should use music that is free to distribute. That way this doesn't happen.

Yes i am 👍

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

SME? Oh, Sony Music Entertainment.

Yes SME, and for me, SMEG is a great name for those good fellows at Sony for blocking it in some regions............ :P

And i find the music that people put on YT, and free to use, is normally of bad quality most of the time. :(

I highly recommend setting the time to early 8am on a clear morning or even light fog (default colour filter) on the new Highland Long track for a quick race. My favourite cars on this new track are turning out to be the MX-5 Cup, This little car has sublime handling as standard and long gearing for the sweeping 3rd/4th gear and tighter 2nd gear turns. I do think this track was made for this car after many laps in it :).

I also really like the Porsche 911R (for the 9000 RPM raw power and engine audio sound this thing has) for this track as it also handles very well as standard set up. I keep coming back to these two cars for a quick blast and I am really enjoying the new highland tracks.

The Highland Short track and the little Audi S1 or Nissan370z is also fun with 15 other cars (all same make) :gtpflag:

Love the new update, stole me away from GT Sport. But agreed, nobody to race with. Lame lobbies. Looking for a league on PS4 to fill the void.

If you are in Europe or can race in the right time check on the subforum for championships... I'm making an interest check on a serie to start soon.

haha you inspired me @torque99 .

This early Sunday morning in - as always- foggy Scotland I took the Dutch Orange MX5-Cup out of the garage. No other traffic so I could drive both left and right on the road and even pass the grass

When coming back in town I noticed, although it was Sunday and the local Scots normally do other things, the garage was open and they just received an Audi Quattro from Germany. Luckily the fog was gone and an early sun peeked over the hills. I begged the engineer for the keys to give also this one with my last name on the side skirts an easy relaxing drive through the surrounding area.

I gave back the keys and thanked him for his politeness. But before going home I decided to go to the local pub. An old granny who already had way too much Guiness started talking about her 1970's car and that reminded me of the 'good old days' when I did some races with a red Opel C Kadett 1000cc (this is theonly fact that is true in this story)!! This Ford Escort comes closest so I had to test this one also and at the end a free donut. Not planned but fun to watch.

:gtpflag: Nice one  Dutch Orange. I do really like this car, especially the cockpit view (with wheel detail) and the engine note, although I think you woke the whole village at 8am in the Audi Q S1 E2:P 👍

Edit: I am now also hooked on the Original 66 Monza Full course with this car on those fast shaky high banked sections :yuck:

Well im continuing with my custom championship, but its all pretty dull stuff. No pitstops,no teammate,no rival teams,no spin outs,no retirements,no weather,no dynamic time of day...

The realism and physics are spot on,but thats its only saving grace...it baffles me why we cant even have mandatory pit stops to inject some excitement into the races...

@BrainsBush - Very nice! I spoke with my lead mechanic about painting my MX-5 Cup that same color. It looked really nice hauling butt around the Scottish country side. Luckily you didn't run over anybody stumbling out of the pubs in town. My Escort is still in the garage at Zandvoort. Half of my team is still putting Humpty-Dumpty back together again. I think I crashed her more than I completed laps. I can't wait to see the bills for the replacement parts next month. :banghead:

Magdelayna - have you ever tried changing tire wear/fuel consumption to something much higher than 1X? That way, tanks are drained much faster & tires wear much faster - leading to a much needed pit stop. See if that helps at all. Hey, I agree that we should have an option to enable mandatory pit stops and even set a number. If you want 3 pit stops mandatory for a 15 lap race you're about to run, you should be able to "set it and forget it"©Ronco.

I don't think this is an option, fuel/tire wear is either on or off, no multiplier (without editing text files).

Does the AI copy your furl amount though? Say if i put 30 litres in,do they do the same?

They could just increase their fuel if i turn the multiplier up and still not pit...

If you adjust your FOV it should adjust the view in dash cam, though only front/back and not left/right/up/down.

Tried this, but it had no effect whatsoever. FOV can only be changed from 50 to 60, & niether veiw made any difference to the KTM's dash view.
