Ok, just tried the update and I'm well impressed. As someone who lives in northern Sweden and have driven a lot of RWD cars in the snow in my youth, I think the car behaviour in the snow in this game is extremely good, like almost spot-on. I immediately felt comfortable and knew exactly what to do.
OK, I am almost sold on this...
One question - how does it play with a controller?
Is it good or do I need a wheel for this?

Examples of my general viewpoint:
Project Cars 3 - great with controller
Project Cars 2 - not great with controller
(Unless you play with the settings every time you change car).
I think it plays great. Better than the DiRT Rally games and EA WRC in my opinion. I feel much more in control in this. I'm using a DualSense just FYI.

Having a bit of a strange issue since the 0.2 update and wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar or found a workaround I might have missed.

At stage starts, my handbrake (Moza Handbrake) no longer seems to hold the car in place. I’ve checked Moza Pit House and it’s registering 100% input at full pull, so everything appears to be working correctly there. It seems like the game just isn’t holding the car at the start of the stage.

For now I’ve reverted to leaving the car in neutral and shifting on “go”, but it’s less than ideal...and leads to some slightly underwhelming starts from the line 😅

Any ideas?

The 0.2 update has massively improved the handling for me, it was always a bit floaty and I’d kinda gotten used to it.
After finding some settings to try on their discord my CSL DD has hit such a sweet spot it’s untrue, the tarmac stages feel absolutely planted where as before the grip was vague at best, it’s such a joy to finally be able to floor these cars now, still issues with the handbrake for me though as even the slightest touch has me practically 360 ing which is less than ideal🙈

Yeah, it doesn't seem to hold the clutch fully like it did with handbreak if not using a clutch pedal. I had a separate button for clutch so holding that too works.

So, good news, AC Rally runs on my GTX3050 equipped laptop that doesn't quite have enough RAM. So although I technically don't meet the minimum spec (8gb RAM Vs 16gb min), it runs and actually runs reasonably well. Not sure on the actual FPS number but it must be around the 50 mark on the medium preset which, across the graphical options in the menu, spans low to ultra throughout, this is at 1080p.

It's really good isn't it? Like, really good. First off the cars are exquisitely detailed, the models are exceptionally balanced and the detail/attention to detail throughout is pretty much unparalleled in the dedicated rally game space. The sounds are fantastic as well, really nailed it and particularly from the cockpit, they've captured that TV onboard type atmosphere really well.

The stages are similarly impressive, amazing detail, the roads feel alive, the feel real (which I know they are but sometimes even real roads in rally games can feel not quite there). It's great seeing all the ruts, lose debris and whatnot everywhere, and how that is reflected audibly is also very satisfying.

Driving wise, it's definitely got a learning curve after being used to playing things like EAWRC, Dirt Rally 2.0 and the like. I'd say when driving within yourself it's perfectly easy and predictable, as a real car should be, then when you start hustling it, how you approach each corner, each kink and bump suddenly starts to matter a whole lot more than it does in other games.

Played it for about an hour last night and I'm looking forward to diving in a bit more and experiencing all the cars on offer.

You’ve joined us on this journey at the right time, the 0.2 update absolutely transformed the handling and I’m rather addicted to it now, especially on triple screens at 1440p 😘
It will be the greatest rally sim ever made in my eyes, if they carry on this same trajectory, which I’ve no reason to doubt as this is obviously made with beautiful attention to detail, I’m loving it.

@MagpieRacer just take the Hyundai i20 around Col du petit Ballon in Alsace

I'd shelved the game for a little while as performance was, rough, to say the least. Today however I took delivery of 32 of the finest GB in the DDR5 SODIMM RAM variety and immediately plugged it into the laptop. Now my main limiting factor for performance is alleviated, I'm excited to see how this game now runs for me.

After a few years of playing PC racing sims with a DualSense controller I’ve now put a new rig together, and for the first time I’m using a direct drive wheel (Moza R9 V3.)
This game was amazing already with a controller, but now it’s truly unbelievable. And man, is it tough or what?!

Does anyone know if this game mimics the season and location of where you are located? It’s pitch black when I set the time to 16:00, just like here in northern Sweden at this time of the year.

Monte Carlo + 2 new cars incoming…

Fully scanned Sisteron and Labollenne stages will be absolutely immense to drive.

One of the 2 cars rumoured to be the Skoda Fabia Rally2 teased last month.

Not 100% official at all so take with a large pinch of salt, but this is apparently the roadmap, a long time to wait for Finland though 😀

I'm going to call it made up.

As per the official page of ACRally:

That supposed early access roadmap show the addition of double as many rallies during early access. Also, why are they assuming we'll always get 2 cars per update? We could get just one (like in 0.2) or several more.

It’s funny they say ”five full international rallies” and ”over 120 km of roads” in the same sentence. 120 km is only about a third of one full international rally. I’m not complaining, I just think it’s funny.

Where is this from actually? It’s obviously bs, but where did you get it?

It was posted on the AC Rally discord with no source at all, just thought I’d put it here on the very slim chance that some of it may be accurate. Which I why I said take with a large pinch of salt.

Bare in mind their road map will have been based their resources before they knew the size of the popularity of the title. So things may have got more ambitious. That's not to say this is real but I expect to see some announced (at this time) additions along the way.

I don't think so, to be completely honest. Rallies, and their stages, are the most resource intensive content assets to develop, in a rally game. Unlike racetracks, rally stages can cover many km2 of ground, and this requires the construction of large areas of landscape. Adding one or two extra locations, I could buy it. Adding twice as many as originally planned? Where are the resources for this coming, both financial and manpower-wise? I just don't see it. Supernova are not a large team, certainly not AAA-size.

Also, if you're increasing the scope of the game, and getting more resources thrown into it, why not increase the expected car count too? According to that supposed roadmap, they'd hit 27 cars during early access, when they said they'd hit over 30.

To me, it look a lot like someone just decided to take what's been leaked and then tried their best to estimate what an ACRally roadmap would look like, while also sprinkling their own wishlist items in for good measure.

If update 0.3 launches next week, on the 26th/27th, and features the Skoda and Toyota, then I start to look at this with another perspective.

P.S- Whoever made this roadmap says a Nissan 240RS is coming. Remember that huge list of over 100 rally cars, that was found in the files? Even there, the Nissan 240RS isn't present, in fact, Nissan, the brand, isn't there entirely.

So I’m now 40+ hours and about 900km driven in game and it’s every bit as good as the early reviews attest to. Still plenty of room for improvement, for my system the game would get bogged down sometimes with noticeable frame drops mid stage, although I had a lot of the settings on high and ultra and dropping just a few down to medium and turning the motion blur off it now runs so smoothly.
Also the FFB on gravel is nowhere near as good as the tarmac stages, way too much side slippage which the devs are aware of, but yeah, the tarmac is unbelievably grippy in the 4WD vehicles, as it is in real life and the RWD are a bit more unpredictable but fun nonetheless , like in real life.
The handbrake is borked, no nuance at all as it’s either 0% or 100% no matter how hard it’s applied, again the devs are aware of this but it certainly makes hairpins a kinda “close your eyes and Inshallah “ moment.
It’s shaping up to be a masterpiece and I’m excited to be along for the ride, it’s a little light on content for sure but what is there already is so addictive doing time attack runs and slowly climbing the online leaderboard, although the top times just boggle the mind as to how they were achieved… it’s stunning already and only going to get better ❤️‍🩹

Which makes it all the more satisfying when you nail them, especially with the RWD cars. What I’ve learned is to be less eager with the gas pedal, which actually reminded me of what Tsuchiya says and demonstrates in the BMI Drift Bible, believe it or not.

Showing off my lack of skills especially at hairpins but dang, this sim is so addictive 😃

Hmm, initial update reveal two weeks ago, car reveal now, another car reveal later? The monthly update plan didn’t last long, lol.
