Rallycross can go in the bin where it belongs 👍
Not in my bin sunshine. They should bring out a couple super stages and couple rally cross tracks with 6 players to tide people over while they take what will be undoubtedly a couple years to get a half decent amount of stages. They don't even have to add rally cross cars, just use rally cars. Also the6 should add a testimg ground.
To put things into more perspective, it's the largest rally game launch on Steam ever.

EA SPORTS WRC launched to around 4k players and DiRT Rally 2.0 to around 3k
That's pretty surprising I must say.

Oh, just quickly smash that out? Couple of hours work for a junior programmer I reckon 🤔

installed triples, AC Rally in Wales in a Lancia Delta Intergrale , Fanatec DD wheel and oh my days, this will be the new standard by which all future rally sims are judged, and dang, there are many leaderboard times that boggle the mind with how quick they are…
@MagpieRacer sorry but I’d say sod it and buy it anyway on the chance you’ll be able to run it comfortably enough to enjoy

I just tried this game for the first time and... wow, it's amazing. It's more than amazing. It's... I don't know... unbelievable.
Yeah, it’s something very special indeed and as I said earlier, this will be THE rally sim by which all others are judged, astonishing for an early access title.

I mean, all would be well if the just one or two aspects were as good as they are, but freaking everything is amazing. The physics, the sounds, the visuals, the bloody details. Well, the optimisation and lack of HUD options leaves something to wish for, but that'll come I'm sure.

Why do the guys at Overtake think its Scandinavia? If you watch the community Q&A from around the 23:30 or 23:40 mark, I get a different idea...

"(...)driving in winter on a mountain road(...)start with low temperatures and rain, and the tarmac will be wet(...)as you go uphill(...)the rain can turn into snow(...)the road will become covered in snow and ice, until you reach the peak and start descending(...)two studded tyres and two non-studded tyres(...)

I mean, that kind of paints a clear picture, a quite specific picture of a pretty specific event...

I guess you haven’t seen the short?

I’m a little late to sharing my thoughts, but AC Rally looks really promising so far. Fully laser-scanned stages is a massive plus, my only concern though is that laser-scanning is a time consuming process, hopefully the team can build enough locations and stages without things getting too stale.

Anyway, I’d be all over the Early Access but I’m not confident I’ll have fun in this game given my only wheel is a GT Neo. So a round wheel might be my next upgrade in the ever expanding list of sim rig upgrades.

Tbh, I'm hoping they've already been out laser scanning stages over the last few years. The game has been in development for some time and to have any hope of meeting the monthly update schedule, they must have content in their pockets already. I'm hoping that they already have a load of stages ready to go, which they are holding back to drip-feed to us. If that isn't the case, this sim is going to take years to get to 1.0.

Laser scanning can be a much faster process now than it has ever been in the last. Granted it still takes a lot of time to then build them from the data but surely no different to building a fantasy stage from scratch?

You can lidar scan huge areas from a plane in a matter of seconds. Now I don't think Kunos/Supernova have access to a plane to do this (or maybe they did) but you can use drones for relatively fast and accurate scanning.

They outsource the scanning

To be fair I haven't ruled out it being Monte-based, as snow at the top of the passes is a reality that most titles have ignored.

For example this is from this year's Monte test.

Thanks for that link, really interesting read. Drone scanning and photogrammetry would yield very good results so I do wonder if that's the combo they're using to capture the stages. They've scanned Imola as well, I wonder if this is the Imola scan other developers purchase for other games.

About the lack of stages and concern that it's time consuming to make them. To each their own, but I'll take quality over quantity any day of the week. Also, I will never drive a rally car on a rally stage in real life, but AC Rally is the next best thing, thanks in no small part to the laser scanning.

FYI, the Overtake article now says:
"The original Alpine A110 and the Livigno Ice School at the base of the Alps of Italy are due to make their way to Kunos Simulazioni's and Supernova Games Studios' Assetto Corsa Rally this festive season."
Got a bit confused at first, since the posts above (which I didn't read until today) didn't align, but they must have changed the article.

That is very disappointing, not what I was hoping for at all. At least the Alpine will be fun on the existing stages I suppose.

While I would have preferred a full new stage and location, I can live with this, but I did also love the MB Ice Arena in Project Cars 2.

Don't think this has been posted yet, someone over at r/assettocorsarally found a (lot) more cars and locations in the localisation files.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Due to recent physics changes that have impacted achievable times, and in the interest of maintaining fair competition, we will be resetting the leaderboards.

The reset is scheduled to take place at Friday 19th December 08:00 GMT, and there may be up to 30 minutes of downtime during this process.

This was not a decision made lightly, and we understand it may be disappointing for some players. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience, we are also looking into ways to immortalise the leaderboards before they’re reset in the future (potentially a “Hall of Fame”) but further details will come at a later date.

Once the reset is complete, we recommend restarting your game to ensure everything updates correctly.

That car list is almost too good to be true. Insanely good if true.

OK, I am almost sold on this...
One question - how does it play with a controller?
Is it good or do I need a wheel for this?

Examples of my general viewpoint:
Project Cars 3 - great with controller
Project Cars 2 - not great with controller
(Unless you play with the settings every time you change car).
